Oh my oh my! When I ended my 1st sitting with this show, it ended on episode 3 with hope and sweetness and then this time it ended with no hope and I didn't have the same urge to watch the next episode! I'm still heavily invested, thinking about it a lot but man those episodes hurt my feelings. I have this feeling that they are going to leave us like this at the end of the season too and I don't know if I can take it! We were having some sound issues which it why it took a bit longer to get up, sorry about that! Hope you enjoy!

Looking forward to watching this with you tonight Cassie!

PapaXan

So excited for this. I've literally been waiting all week.

Rick

You two teaming up would be entertaining.

Caomhan84

This is not going to be a hopeful story... So just don't expect that. It's a story about survival and the bond between two people. It's rough, but worthwhile.

Gábor Árki

For a break, Pedro Pascal's Hot Ones interview released earlier today: https://youtu.be/zVRwUHbHgt8

Brian McGovern

Natalie Gold has a similar issue. After watching episode 5, she was in tears. She said she hates the show. It is not entertainment, it is torture. In that I agree. It is not an uplifting series, it is downright bleak. I still watch. I have not played the game, but I know what happens, and it does not let up. You may well stick with it, but honestly, I would not fault you for not watching anymore. Ironic that a show set in a pandemic where humans turning into horrific creatures, it is more about the horrors that humans will resort to in order to survive.

Foggy

awe cassie, i'm sorry i know this time we're ending on a very, very somber note. i can't promise it'll get much happier but it really is a beautiful, albeit tragic story about the lengths we'll go to for the ones we love. the video game is my favorite piece of media, full stop, and this series is doing an excellent job of adapting it for those who would otherwise never play the game. i'm so glad you're powering through, i hope you'll feel it's worthwhile at the end.

Caomhan84

But I do think it falls down a little bit by overemphasizing the human element more than the infected. It's a great show, don't get me wrong. And it's a pretty great adaptation of the game. But episodes 4&5 in particular are ones that frustrated me as a game fan because they cut out an entire sequence where they could have incorporated great game events into the plot (and written a cliffhanger between episodes), but decided not to, instead showcasing human characters invented entirely for the show (Kathleen and co... Who I don't believe were needed in this show at all). Of course you can't have a faithful TV adaptation of a game that consists of 90% sneaking around, I understand that, but in some cases they have gone too far the other way. "Where are the infected?" is a valid criticism. And considering the large budget of the show, it's a question worth asking... Did they put a little too much emphasis on the human characters?

Brian McGovern

Maybe that is what is making the show a critical success, BECAUSE they are emphasising the human element and easing up on some of the gaming sequences. It’s the line creators need to tread when adapting any source material. How much do you keep, how much do you remove. What will hopefully work to aid the show.

Jennifer Medicus

It's why I'm not watching the show. I just don't need that much bleakness in my life. I quite Game of Thrones for similar reasons (well several) but I had enough going on in my life, I need something upbeat. I am catching some people's reactions as I can detach myself from it and I read spoilers and my roommate gives me updates. But when he came downstairs 30 minutes into the first episode crying and saying nope, I knew this wasn't for me.

Casey Steiner

I know its dark and difficult to watch but I hope you're able to power through! Over halfway already. I try to take solace in the little moments of beauty they give us because they really stand out when contrasted with this dark world.

Justtired

This story is about the growing bond between two people while the world falls apart around them. Sadly, that means there is a lot of tragedy. I think I can speak for my fellow followers when I offer a group hug for Cassie.

Caomhan84

Yeah, I know, it's a fine line to tread. But in the weeks since these episodes have aired, the more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that the show didn't need Kathleen at all. You cut Kathleen and her entire thing, reallocate her screen time to a pretty awesome game sequence, and the episodes lose none of their suspense or impact. And how many clickers have we seen? Three? I do love the show overall, but I think it should have had more infected. And unfortunately, since it is so critically acclaimed, you can't really criticize it without people calling you a spoiled game fan. 😂

Alex Gorell

They changed/left out quite a bit from the video game but it stays closer than other shows that based off of games. The show isn’t a happy show it’s about survival and doing what you can for the people you care about. Fun fact the guy with the big beard played Tommy in the video game. The guy who plays Joel shows up in a later episode and the woman who plays Ellie in the game plays her mother in the show which you will see in the finale.

Robin Craft

I knew this episode would be a difficult watch for you but all things considered you handled it like the champ you are Cassie. Such an emotional rollercoaster is this show. The storytelling, set design, music...the acting... Pedro and Bella are simply amazing. This is the best series that I have seen in a long time.

Terry Yelmene

First, to answer your question about Ellie's origin... she's an orphan from Boston. To answer what seems to be your misconception about the 'truth' of TLOU... the infected, clickers and bloaters (Hulk-like infected you saw in the last episode) may be 'monstrous'... but it's the 'humans' that are the 'real monsters' in the world. Thank you for reacting to TLOU Cassie.... Again, it DOESN'T GET ANY EASIER... but it DOESN'T STOP DETTING BETTER.

Brian McGovern

She may quit it "cold turkey" in season 2. If she hasn't already. She even replied to a comment when they said season 2 will be rough. She said you mean these aren't rough enough? Or words to that effect.

Brian McGovern

I would not call you a “ spoiled game fan” you like what you like, you want what you want. I would say that it does you no good to get too attached to the IP, and hope they follow 100% Ultimately, it is going to cloud your option of the show. You are not wrong for having an opinion. At least you are still watching and enjoying ( as much as anyone can enjoy seeing people at their absolute lowest point and at their absolute worst) and not blasting it because of what you didn’t get. I hope that comes across as respectful as intended.

Brian McGovern

Holy Moly. Dead Reckoning, MI 7 is currently almost 3.5 HOURS LONG. We will never see the movie that long.

Just Plain Bob

Cassie, for a cure to the doldrums elicited by this show, I’d like to once again recommend “Pushing Daisies.” It’s the exact opposite of TLOU. Funny and light with a love story at its heart, it uses vibrant colors to tell its story and is guaranteed to put you in a better mood.

Richard Maurer

I knew this would be a bad one for you. The thing about any post-apocalypse show is you need to just assume at some point things are going to go bad and characters you care about are going to die, then if it doesn't happen you can be pleasantly surprised, till the next episode anyway.

Just Plain Bob

I think that’s a healthy perspective. There’s no reason to make yourself miserable when watching entertainment. I have quit watching other shows, such as The Walking Dead, because at some point I found that I was watching them out of a sense of commitment instead of enjoyment. When it starts to feel like homework, I’m done.

KTVindicare

I wish I could say the show gets more optimistic and easier to watch from here, but that's not the kind of story this is.

Yaisu

The trick is to find the beauty in the sadness.

Chip MC

just bc its in the past doesn't mean its not a spoiler

Chip MC

ppl should maybe chill on talking about what's to come and let cassie experience it for herself?

Jones

Thank you, Cassie 🙏 I know that wasn’t easy to watch, but I can guarantee the ending will be really cathartic. Keep pushing!! 🙌

Tonio

Well you handled episode 5 better than I did

OneManReactionFaction

This show will break your heart in more ways than one. It will make you cry in sorrowful joy and it will make you cry in tragic anguish. It literally puts you in the POV of the characters in the show. That's why it is so damn good! I always tell people: This is what The Walking Dead SHOULD have been. I really hope you stick with it! It's incredible!

Robert da Spruce

Whoa. That was quite the couple of episodes. I’m watching for the first time along with you Cassie. That ending of Ep.5 was rough. I think I need to go watch something else to cleanse the palette. In spite of the heaviness of the show, I’m looking forward to watching the next batch of episodes.

Marty McGee

I've quit watching several shows, because I realized the story was just too dark and I didn't like ANY of the characters. Mad Men and House of the Dragon come to mind. Every one of those characters were horrible people even if well-written. The difference to me here is yes it's dark and depressing, but I absolutely love Joel and Ellie. I don't mind horrible villains and/or dark and depressing if the protagonists are worth rooting for.

Marty McGee

This show does such a great job getting you invested in characters and then ripping them away from you: Tess, Bill and Frank, now Henry and Sam. This one was difficult and hurt. Mainly because Sam was so young and it was Henry who shot him. I can't imagine any other outcome after that. Ooof! Rough stuff. Enjoy time with your kiddos and glad you're watching some more light-hearted content in between.

Pickadoren

So episode 4-5 here, am i blind or have u skipped episode 3? cant find it anywhere anyway.

Pickadoren

Oh Nvm saw u had it with 1 and 2, i got tricked by the yt edit just having episode 1 and 2. :)

Eryk Klukaczyński

Yes, its bleak show but its interesting what creators said about this story, It's story about love but no happy popcultural love, It's about primal love, the instincts that we have in us to protect loved ones that can lead to horrible things.

Shibby

Thank you very much for that spoiler about the finale. Please keep ruining things for people who haven't been spoiled yet, you're doing such a good job.

Alex Gorell

I didn’t spoil anything they told us all this before the show even aired calm down.

Richard Maurer

I think we need to define spoilers (again) - Referencing anything from a future episode is technically spoiling, although if it's something innocuous - like "Ellie will be using the F word in future episodes" or assumed - like "Ellie will be in future episodes" then most people wouldn't consider those spoilers. But it's best to always err on the side of caution were spoilers are concerned, such as with the OP 's comment, I would say it's a (mild) spoiler.

Richard Maurer

You literally mentioned a character most didn't even know existed will be in the show. Not everybody watches the interviews, press releases, or even trailers for this reason You should do the right thing and add a "SPOILER ALERT" to your comment at the very least.

rakesh

OMG. You haven't watched lost?!?!?!?!?!?. I think in my lifetime I've watched a couple of hundred shows and I think Lost is the best television program of all time. It had its detractors, some hated the ending. But I thought it was perfect. I think its too long of the watch for PIB or Patreon, so watch this in your own private time with your husband. It will be worth it.

Anthony Perez

It's interesting all the negative comments about the Kathleen character or rather the actress. People thought she was too soft looking. As if she had to look like a Terminator. Don't they realize that Mussolini, Hitler, whatsisname the North Korean leader...were all unprepossessing men? It's their ability to bend people to their will that makes them scary. Heck even our last president was physically nothing but controlled millions.

Rick Williams

That was tough. You did good Cassie. You survived. Now you have to move forward to the next episode. These kind of series are hard to watch. The Walking Dead burned me out years ago. I had not planned on watching this series. But, decided to make the journey with you. At least I have someone to suffer with through this. How about something a little more upbeat before the next episode of this one?

Sean Stuart

Have you seen all the reel videos/memes of Nicholas Cage driving with Pedro Pascal? I think Cassie should put the unbearable lightness of being Nicholas Cage on the list!!! Though her Nick Cage repertoire is a little low to get all the references

Uncle Phoenix

“Endure and Survive” is right. I definitely wouldn’t be watching this show if it wasn’t for Cassie. It’s a little traumatizing, but I’m glad there is someone like Cassie to help me through it. “I’m scared of being alone.” Wow, that episode was hard to watch.

KMJ

Please react to Pedro Pascal's three favorite Nick Cage films if you haven't already. 'Arizona Junior', 'Moonstruck' and 'Peggy Sue Got Married.' They are three of my favorite films too.

Julien

I don’t agree w their concern but I think their point was more that this is an apocalypse, a time of scarcity.

Sean Stuart

2023 the year of Bond, Pascal and Cage

Julien

The absence of Game of Thrones in the series you mentioned at the start is sus. Did you watch GOT? 🤔

Charlie Chap

It’s pretty amazing that you give us the gift of seeing your raw emotions watching a show about raw emotions❤️

Jayson Phillips

Yeah this episode devastated me! I was not sure if I wanted to keep going...but I did lol

Clay F

Henry should have went with Joel and Ellie. "I feel no hope.' "I like it, but I don't like it."
