Although I think their artistic identity is going in the right direction for them and is fresh and hopefully it will make them FUCKING huge cos they deserve it and have worked very hard for it, it is not my taste. The dancers on my channel will probably still react to their choreo's tho if the chance is there.

I think the rnb/hiphop energy of Shooting star and Left right was just RIGHT sonically and attitude wise in a way that felt more authentic to me. I find it very hard to connect with the tougher girl vibes except when it's Cocona ha. I believe her and it comes across well.

Falling out of love with a group sucks sometimes BUT who knows, maybe in the future they'll release something I like again since they do move through concepts a lot ... another thing that makes it hard for me to connect with.

Similar with RIIZE, but that Japanese debut babyyyy >>>>.

Anyway! Enjoy!

I actually SAR is their best song since shooting star, they were losing me up until this cb. I think they need to stick to singing bc that works out well for them

Aylin

not related to your post but leemujin service released a new episode with rami from babymonster! You should definitely check it out if you have the time! :)

Tatiana

Yeah lately XG songs didn't do it for me but I'm still a fan. I am wondering have you seen their latest dance track?

Nicolas

Like how did we go from shooting star and left right to this very lazy sound (may sound harsh but I think they can do so much better)

Kendall Tucker

I understand. Aside from Winter Without You which was more R&B, this song is actually probably my favorite since the SS/LR era despite not loving the video (the whole avant-garde alien thing is interesting but just not for me personally lol). I’m still confused at their change in direction sonically and creatively as it seems like SS/LR is what made them blow up and so many people fall in love with them. Those are still their most popular songs and videos on streaming and YouTube as well. I appreciate they want to try other genres, but I think it’s too bold to try and do everything so early in their career. (G)-Idle comes to mind as a group that successfully pulls off switching things up sonically/creatively with every release, but that feels much more authentic since Soyeon is at the helm.

Hailey

This sound is not lazy to me but to each their own.

Koko3op

AND Idle has been quite consistent sonically. Tomboy/Queencard and Klaxon go well together. Yeah I really don't know why they abandoned SS/LR so quickly. It was fun, personable and still had edge and a bit of everything. A shame cos the dance stuff just feels a lot safer.

Tatiana

Something Ain't Right. I haven't seen the video yet. Waiting till after work

Kym

It's unfortunate but I get it. Personally they lost me a bit with TGIF and New Dance but I've since gone back to those songs and it grew on me. It took months for that growth but now they are officially playlisted. Woke Up was my shit because I'm a hip hop head and it was well executed imo and Something Ain't Right is my summer jam of the moment. That said, Shooting Star and Left Right was peak XG, was my absolute favorite sound from them, and I do hope they get back to that at some point. I love what they're doing regardless and can't wait to see them live soon.

I wasn’t a fan of any of XG’s releases post-SS/LR until SAR, which felt tonally like a return to those tracks, even if I totally feel you about the repetitive nature of the chorus and the safer dance choreography. It feels like XG has been experimenting a lot with their image and I think they found a balance of the alien concept with their earlier fashion choices in this comeback which feels like an ode to Japanese street fashion & subculture! I will say, I think that their constant exploring of different concepts and genres has made them better performers (I got to see them live recently and it was stunning for how new they are, even if tonally it was all over the place). I feel in their constant changing an urgency to prove their talent and their potential by showing how many styles they can pull off, and I hope they mature into something more confidently and singularly themselves. Thank you for being honest and thoughtful about the tracks still!! I’m hoping the new mini will bring you back, this single gave me so much hope for their future (that they’re balancing out the tough girl image with girlypop for the gays and the gals) but totally respect your takes.

Kendall Tucker

@koko3op true, I guess I just also see them do stuff like Nxde, My Bag, Allergy, Wife, Super Lady, etc so I feel like I never know what genre to expect from them/Soyeon lol. But yes agreed on the dancing for XG! SS and LR had immaculate choreography which I think was a big part of their success. I even enjoyed their earlier choreo like Mascara and Tippy Toes more than anything they’ve done recently.

Sarah

Fyi he has said in the past he doesn’t like people dropping requests on unrelated videos without acknowledging the video (check his pinned for his specific words!) He has said if you have a request to feel free to DM him on patreon!

Aylin

Oh i’am still new i did not know that but thank you for letting me know! :)

Myah Gibson

I think they move through concepts a little too quickly for me. The only thing I liked from this song is that we hear Cocona sing more. Other than that I couldn’t really get into their recent songs. Hopefully they bring the SS/LR sound back

Laurelle

I also agree that Shooting Star and Left-right were like their best sounds, but I enjoy most of their releases. I had a hard time enjoying woke up but it blew up so much that I just got used to it and it is now my jam lol. SAR is a nice song. I feel like they are slowing down with the choreos which I am disappointed about because these girls can dance! My opinions might be biased because I am such a huge fan, I just really love them and they are such great performers that I just find myself enjoying watching them. Thank you for your reaction! I love hearing your opinions

J

I'd say I've mostly been in the same boat as you with them for a while. New Dance was a massive miss for me, and while everything since then has been better than that by a mile, it still never really fully recovered for me. Something Ain't Right is for me the first song that does have a bit of a spark to it that suggests they might come around for me, I think I liked it more than you, but I agree that the chorus just drags on and on. It's one of those things though, I can still appreciate the talent and what they're doing and all that, I just think the circles in the Venn diagram of taste aren't overlapping as much at this point.

This is actually my first time commenting ever and i just want to say that i really enjoy your content as you are one of the very few critical reactors when it comes to k-pop. Your XG reactions were actually what introduced me to your channel and I completely understand why you may not feel like reacting to them anymore. Keep up the great work and thank you for providing amazing content!!! Also I just wanted to ask if you ever watched their vox 6 “Losing you” because I feel like it is hinata’s best vocal performance and she shines a lot there and even if you don’t feel like reacting to it, it still might be worthwhile to check out on your own time. Sorry for the long comment and thank you for reading all of this!

Lamiah

you should check out Don’t Lee Chaeyeon it’s a great song and she’s the sister of ITZY Chaeryeong

Koko3op

Thank you so much! I appreciate you and yes I checked it out off camera and it was a good cover!

Andrew Wendt

what i like about XG though is that they always release their albums in several pre-releases, and each pre release track is so different sonically. So i really hope that even though something aint right is very dancey, their next track will be RnB

Edward Lee

XG is definitely one of those groups that needs the benefit of falling in love with the members bc their sound changes SO MUCH but it's hard to bc ultimately it's the music that is the gateway/doorway to them. They are quite entertaining in their variety but it's not like someone is going to "discover" them through variety content or documentaries so it's kind of a catch-22 I honestly wasn't too big of a fan outside of the xypher bc Im not the biggest R&B fan so LR and SS didn't really hit for me but then I randomly heard Woke Up and stuck around for SAR and it's seriously genre/concept whiplash. I do think that their mantra of being a global group/doing all songs in english probably has driven some of these decisions (as in kpop groups tend to be shackled by their concept), it just makes it really difficult to stick around

Koko3op

Yeahh there needs to be some kind of cohesion or something honestly. It's too much

David Gatti

I feel exactly the same way but I thought I must be the only person. I appreciate and respect your honesty. The current concept and sound is just too weird and A.I.-looking for me. I'm a bunny - NewJeans is much more my taste.

Irene

4:18 I'm everywhere, I'm so Jurin-a oohwoah oohwahah

Grayson Smith

It's sad but I've really been feeling the same way with XG. It feels like they found their sound and Simon was chasing a new sound for them with every release. It's nice to see versatility, but after GIRL GVNG they really should have returned that to wonderful Shooting Star vibe and sound.

Taniyah Louis

Even though I've been missing your XG reactions, I still get where you are coming from. I've enjoyed woke up and something ain't right but IKYK wasn't really it for me so I really do get it, hopefully this new mini album has some great songs!

l3mons04

Ik you said this is your last xg reaction for a while but I do feel like you would enjoy the songs on their new album that weren’t released pre-released, I feel they’re more your vibe melodically and vocal wise bc they are more rnb/pop heavy ( minus the woke up remix ). I’m not asking you to post a reaction or anything but I do think if you gave it a listen on your own time you would enjoy it. I also think like you would really enjoy their tour clips because they really have put in a show. Just a suggestion, love your videos XX.

Taniyah Louis

Yes!! I def think he would enjoy their choreo as well and the album is wonderful.
