Ramble

Halloo~~oo! Time for this week's update. 

I...Have done some editing! 

This is unrelated but once again Patreon has made changes to their post submission that have made the process actively worse. And I'm so annoyed. 🤣

Writing

Okay I am nearly done with Chapter 7. I know it's taking a while but it is 80,000 words. It's a novel. This one chapter is as long as a novel, basically.

The chapter isn't quite finished yet but I only have two more scenes to edit. And I've already gone back to do some of the proofreading as well.

I use ProWritingAid for proofreading which just helps me find some of the more egregious typos, missing commas, extra commas, and over-use of adverbs and things like that. And someone showed me last week that PWA has an integration in Scrivener that will keep me from having to reload the project in in the PWA app, which is really useful and actually makes proofreading a much nicer experience.

But weirdly I noticed that when I was going through Kav's content, a lot of the "improvements/corrections" were showing up in the list but weren't clickable/fixable. Usually the word shows in a list and then you can immediately click and omit, change, or fix the word. And it Kav's scene it just wasn't working right.

You can see it here - the ones with the little arrow next to them are clickable and there's an immediate correct/suggestion I can apply. But "want" is broken.

So I was trying to figure out what was going on and I was running this same report throughout the scrivener files and...

It's only happening in Kav's scenes! And I don't know why! His files are just like everyone else's. Prowriting Aid just hates him for some reason. 🤣🤣

So that's a thing that happened.

But yess. Nearly...NEARLY done editing this chapter. FINALLY.

It is right at 80,000 words. And is the longest chapter. BY FAR. The next longest chapter, right now. Is chapter 5, which is 67000 words.

So yeah. Got some chonky chapters for sure.

Got a new BG sketch this week for a cute location that will get used later in the game.

I was hoping to get Chapter 7 done this week but it just did not happen. It's just such a long chapter and Raif needed a lot of small tweaks and fixes so I didn't get as far as I wanted. BUT I really do think I will be done with Ch 7 this week and will be able to move to Chapter 8.

Chapter 8 moves the crew to a new location and I have...most of the BG art for it now. There is still one that is not started and one in sketch form.

It's always useful to have the BGs when editing because a lot of times the background art end up not fully matching the text. And if I want any flavour descriptions then I need the BG when I am writing.

But usually even if I have to edit text to match the BG art, it's relatively minor so I'm not too worried about it.
