Hello guys!
Sorry for the late update this week. I honestly just...forgot. OxO LoL
It was one of those "doesn't-feel-like-Friday" days so it didn't occur to me that I needed to update until late afternoon when I was in the middle of something. So I decided to wait until I was finished with that before I started working on it.
So anyway, let's jump in!
Summary:
- Got Ari and Caissa's script fully imported
- Got one new completed BG and several BG sketches
- Made some additional edits to Caleb's route
- Re-made all the flowchart graphics (they look similar but are slightly bigger
- Designed a flowchart key
- Wrote and imported the introductory scenes for Reuben, Quill, and Yuu
- Remade the common route flowcharts
- Editing/reworking Jack's route synopsis
- Small sprite corrections
The Ramble:
Another busy week this week!
I ended up taking a little break from importing scripts (because I badly needed it) and did a few other things. But I also completed importing Caissa's script, which was the last one I had to finish.
I ended up doing some flowchart work because I was roughing out the flowcharts for Caleb and Ari's routes, which got me thinking about what additional graphics and icons I'd be needing for the in-game charts. At some point I decided I wanted to make the graphics a little bigger than they originally were so I did a minor overhaul.
While I was doing that, I decided maybe I should go ahead and put in the introductory scenes for Quill, Reuben, and Yuu. This allows me to put their choices in the game from the start and include them in the flowcharts (which saves me from having to redo them again later on.
I already knew, more or less, what I wanted their intro scenes to look like so it wasn't that difficult to write them but I imagine they'll get some edits down the line since I skipped that part of the process before importing them. Even so…
Those guys are now in the game!
I did go down another development sidetrack and I edited in a new branch for one scene in Caleb's route.
Caleb's route was feeling a bit linear compared to the others (which isn't surprising because not only is it really plot heavy but it also gave me a lot of issues during the writing process - that usually means it's going to have less complexity over all.). It's not really a problem to have routes with heavier or lighter branching but I was kind of going through and looking for places I might be able to make the flow a little more interesting.
There was one place I felt I could enhance the "personality" branching and add in a new option for the player so I spent a couple of days fleshing that out. It's not necessarily a major plot oriented moment, but I do think it adds something to give the player a slightly different option there.
We only got one finished background this week But there are around 4-5 currently being worked on so I hope we have some more of those next week.
A lot of the work I did this week was just sort of tedious and small stuff - working on the flowchart graphics is mostly just resizing ovals. Remaking the flow charts is just a lot of copy/pasting and rearranging. Those things are massive time sinks but there's nothing interesting to show when it's done.
Same for importing the script.

Upcoming Week:
I guess I'll be diving full force into Jack's route at this point.
At any rate, I think I've completed most of my procrastination tasks. So I have no choice. I'm not sure how far I'll get but by the end of the week I'll hopefully have a better feel for how easy or difficult this route is going to be to write.
