A...Anyway.
This Week's Summary:
- Second revision complete
- Proofreading (round 1) complete
- Entire route scripted and put into Renpy
The Ramble:
So, this update is late because I have been finishing up the proofreading (round 1) with the help of my usual software - Pro Writing Aid, which helps catch a ton of stuff I otherwise completely overlook on my other revisions.
I also go the entire route scripted into Renpy! And I just didn't want to stop and write an update until it was done. LoL
The total word count for Quill's Route is 110,486 words!
So that actually puts him right in the middle of the other routes. Literally dead centre. That said...I'll probably add in some small personality based variations. He has a little bit fewer than other routes because I was so concerned about the length. But now that I can see he's in the middle in terms of word count, and several thousand from being the longest, I feel I can add in some small variations to bring him a little closer to the other routes.
The total word count for the game now - with Quill's route - is 814,000 words.
So writing for Quill's route is "done" (I always keep editing and tweaking as beta testing happens and while working on art so "done" is relative.)
I am currently making some to-do lists to keep myself focused as I move into the next phase of things.
I will probably make the chapter and ending cards first, then start coding in the BGs.
The other routes had BGs that lent themselves to animations pretty well but Quill's route has a lot of indoor scenes so I'm not actually sure how to animate some of these but I'll be working on that as I get the backgrounds situated for use in the game.
Writing is, to me, the biggest hurdle. Though there are tons of other things to do and I still have loads of work ahead of me, writing is the single biggest chunk of work.
Having the route in the game engine is *huge*.

Upcoming Week:
This upcoming week, I will be adding BG images into the game and focusing on that (a lot of the BGs have to be edited and prepped for use even though the art is complete). This will get the game in a state where it's easier to read through it in the game (I always have a hard time reading if there's just a black void behind the text box. LoL)
And if I have time, I'll probably start coding in music cues, too.
It's happening! We are moving into the next phase. I may have.....like.......REALLY SCREEN CAPS AND STUFF for you all soon. 🤩🤩

I do have some other "housekeeping" things to do for Quill's route. I have to set up the personality-locked choices properly and also actually code in proper scores. (Right now all the "affection" checks are set against 5 points. Easiest route *ever*!)
I need to make sure all of those are done properly too so the route is truly playable. And then when I get the BGs in, I'll test to make sure it all makes logical sense when you play through it.
