Hi everyone! Time for this week's update!

This Week's Summary:

• Revisions. Rewriting.

The Ramble:

Revisions are going well but starting in about chapter 8 I would say that I have shifted to re-writing verses revising

For me, revising is about making small (sometimes a lot of small) and incremental changes to a draft to improve it. But at some point, you are making so many changes that you've essentially re-created part (or all) of the story.

Starting in chapter 8, I would say that I've been throwing out about 50-60% of what I'd previously written and have had to completely reconstruct it using only a smaller part of what I originally wrote.

Mostly because if I change the order in which R&M work out certain elements of the case, it creates a domino effect as I re-order everything and rewrite conversations. I realised that it was likely going to be hard for the player to follow the flow of the case because we are seeing it all through Morgan and Reuben's eyes and they discuss a lot of possibilities without ever laying out a clear timeline of events or solid series of connecting threads. I ended replacing a lengthy conversation with Morgan/Reuben/Wynter with a discussion they have with Reuben's boss, laying out what they've discovered and are theorising so far.

Having Phil involved means their next actions are a little different as well and I had to completely rewrite, in total about 3500 words across several chapters.

I'm now in Chapter 10.

I definitely think a second revision pass will be required before typo editing because there's so much new content that it will definitely all need cleaning up.

The good news is that in all this re-writing I've been able to add in some silly teasing and flirting between Morgan and Reuben! I'm not just sorting out plot but definitely enhancing the character and romance development as well. <3

Upcoming Week:

I will continue to revise/rewrite. I think Chapter 10 is going to get significant rewrites as well just because prior changes in Ch8 and Ch9 will require it. But this is where Magnus shows up again too and it's always fun to work on scenes where he is.

Reuben is so done with him about 5 seconds after he opens his mouth. 🤣🤣

(and he breaks into Reuben's house. Again. Fun times.)

Anyway, hopefully I'm able to finish at least Ch 10 and Ch 11 this week. We will see. Revisions are going at a steady pace but also a bit slow due to the sheer amount of re-writing and re-conceptualising I've had to do.

But I'm most of the way through the first pass! 💪💪
