So this is a general question about playing games with sexual content and love scenes. Bearing in mind that my games always have a "fade to black" toggle to skip this content and that there are certain things I won't draw because either I don't want to, I don't feel I'm good at it, or I don't want to bump my own maturity rating up higher...

I am curious how you all feel about nudity in CGs.

It goes from "no nudity" to "explicit" because I want all the options there but I know about where I'd draw a line for myself.

I also know that all games are different and that's fine. But if you were playing a game with love scenes that were sort semi-explicit - where would you *hope* the visuals would fall?

To clarify 'nakedness but no intercourse' - not to get too DESCRIPTIVE but I mean: the two characters may be nude and embracing but intercourse/penetration isn't directly depicted even if it's clear from the text what is happening. No 🍆is probably the gist of it. LoL (Patreon won't let me edit this post. FOR REASONS).

Yeah, I agree, honestly. I mean, I don't think mild nudity would have detracted either. But I thing GS works as it is for sure.

I don't have any problem with NSFW content, and I may be in the minority, but I've always thought that leaving some (small ;) ) parts covered/to the imagination is more titillating than letting it all explicitly hang out.

Definitely! It's kind of like how I actually think that that pre/post kiss moment where characters are close but their lips aren't touching can be more tense and emotional than actually seeing the kiss. Sometimes there's just more tension and spice in what you don't see. For me, the issue of showing nudity is often just about having the freedom to compose a CG the way I want without having to worry about if a boob is a little visible. It's not that I want everything on display all the time but if I happen to want a composition that might show some nip, then having the freedom to do it without worrying is nice. The converse, though, is that sometimes if you show something ONCE, people get disappointed if you don't show it all the time. So it's a big of a double edged sword.

I chose nakedness but no intercourse. Even choosing that option it wouldn't upset me if not every route showed full on nakedness aka the nips and bits. I honestly feel this is a difficult poll because I am in a 'it depends' state of mind. Sometimes whatever goes on during or before the sexy time feels it warrants different CGs, in my mind at least. The CG could feel right clothed, partially nude/implied nude, fully naked but no intercourse or even explicit. Although, I have had experience reading a VN that is fully explicit during sexy time and think it is really hard to pull off. When I was reading that VN, it sort of felt more like a joke than sexy. I feel mean saying that. The art was fine. I think the writing was just giving me an old funky porno sort of vibe, especially when paired with the music and....sounds. I do think it could be pulled off if done correctly though. I can also understand staying away from explicit CGs because if you are showing explicit CGs then it usually means that the writing also becomes at least somewhat explicit. I know from experience that, even being fine reading or watching explicit stuff, it can be a bit embarrassing and even a struggle actually writing that kind of stuff yourself. Sorry this was long.

I learned long ago that if you put "it depends" (or any variation) in a poll, most people will choose that. Because I think most of us prefer variety, honestly. And there often aren't any hard and fast rules to game content. One of the difficult things for me is trying for balance because players will sometimes mistake decisions as being more nefarious than they are. If you show a spicy (with nudity) CG for one character but not for another, it can feel like "favouritism" even though it might actually just kind of be what felt right for the characters. I'd rather it feel organic but that just doesn't always come across well. 😭 (Side note, but love scene music can be SO difficult because you don't want it to be too sappy but you can descend into funky porno music so easily. So I feel that pain). 🤣🤣

I voted moderate nudity, but honestly would be fine with any of the options? There's a place for explicit stuff, but somehow I don't feel like it's necessary? I hate to phrase it that way, obviously it's not NECESSARY. I guess I mean, as someone who can appreciate explicit art, I don't feel any kind of lack of it in a VN, and sometimes explicit art can be uncomfortable or take you out of the moment instead of enhancing it.

I definitely agree. It's very case by case. Usually when I'm curious what people look for, I'm always curious how far I can go rather than wondering if I'm not doing enough. So in this case - if I showed mild or moderate nudity, would people dislike it is my real query. While I'm not planning, specifically, to include nudity, I have more freedom if I know the option is open to me should there come a moment in WSC when I feel the scene would benefit from it. It's much harder to try to dance around it and avoid showing things sometimes. ;A;
