::ANNOUNCEMENT: SubscribeStar Update. (Patreon)
Content
So, here’s the lowdown. If you saw the last patreon announcement, you’ll know that I’ve had to remove specific characters and artwork to make sure everything remains dandy with the TOS here on patreon. Since that post, I’ve created a SubscribeStar page, gotten approved, and have posted all of the removed art from here. So as of this moment, the SubscribeStar is completely functional.
“WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR PATREON?”
Honestly, not much. Patreon is still going to be getting everything I draw (with the exception of those “specific” characters and their “dynamics.”) SubscribeStar is just going to receive everything I post (and can’t post) here.
“WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT SUBSCRIBESTAR SINCE JOINING?”
For those of you know may not know, SubscribeStar is another content monetization website, much like Patreon. It essentially works the exact same way, and you (as a viewer) should have next to no difference from what you experience hear. I have learned that I have to jump through a few more hoops over there than I do here on Patreon.
For example, on Patreon, when I want to upload a drawing, I simply upload the image, attach it if I want, and post it. You (as a viewer) will see the full resolution image instantly. On SubscribeStar, there is a size limit. I’m only able to upload file sizes no larger than 8mb. It has forced to me realize that my canvases are much larger than anything SubscribeStar can handle, with most of my simpler Flat pieces hovering around the 10mb range, and illustrations reaching up into and around the 30mb range. In order to upload anything to SubscribeStar, I have to manually compress the file sizes.
For those of you interested in SubscribeStar, don’t worry. I am currently setting up a google drive folder so that the full resolution file of anything compressed on SubscribeStar will still be available for viewing.
“WHAT WILL YOU BE POSTING TO SUBSCRIBESTAR?”
Currently, all of the removed artwork from Patreon is up on SubscribeStar, and compilation posts of everything posted to Patreon since the start of 2024. I’d have liked to post more of a backlog, however, as mentioned before, I have to manually compress each image individually, and I just can’t get through the hundreds and hundreds of works I’ve accrued over the years.
Outside of that and moving forward, SubscribeStar will still be getting everything I plan on posting here on Patreon. This includes monthly illustrations, sketch rewards, polls, comics, wips and processes, and the occasional animations. Plus the additional works I can’t post here.
“IF YOU CAN JUST PUT THE WORKS YOU CAN’T POST ON PATREON INTO A GOOGLE DRIVE FOLDER AND DISTRIBUTE THEM THAT WAY, WHY DON’T YOU JUST DO THAT?”
Because Patreon can be quite strict with their TOS, and I’m not sure my page here would survive that if they were to crackdown on me. The support I receive from you guys here is too important to risk losing. I’d love to make things easier on myself and you guys by doing that, but It’s simply safer to post elsewhere.
“WHY SHOULD I GO TO SUBSCRIBESTAR?”
Currently the only reason to go there is to receive 100% of everything I make going forward. I have made the decision to omit the $2 tier from SubscribeStar (at least for now), meaning that only the $5 and $10 options are available. This is because the majority of everything removed was for those tiers here on Patreon anyways, and at least for the time being, makes everything just a little easier for me.
Because of the dynamic between Patreon and SubscribeStar, there will be SubscribeStar exclusive works that you’ll only be able to find there before posted anywhere else publicly. Outside of that, I have been contemplating the employment of a Discord server for SubscribeStar. I’m not really crazy about having another platform I need to manage, but I’ve come to realize that there wasn’t really a place for you guys to really hang out and chat with me and each other. If SubscribeStar gets sufficient support, I’ll look into including a Discord channel for us, if you’re interested.
“IS THERE ANY BENEFIT TO BEING A SUPPORTER ON BOTH PATREON AND SUBSCRIBESTAR?”
NO. Currently there are no benefits to being a supporter on both platforms, so definitely just pick one for the time being. If you do want to support me on both, know that I’d greatly appreciate it, but there are no benefits to doing so. Maybe if SubscribeStar does well we can look into something like special offers on commissions or maybe getting coloured sketches for the sketch rewards or something like that.
But that is the tea. I’m sorry for the inconveniences this whole debacle presents, but I hope I’ve at least made things more condensed and concise for you guys. Your support is the only way I’m even able to do things like this and the last thing I wanna do is make that support a chore.
