It's not about privilege. Lancelot didn't have that privilege but still, he is a great swordsman. privilege makes it easier but it doesn't mean you win. If Arthur wins with someone else his name he proofs that he is worthy of the title. Lancelot is in this show the ultimate proof that where you come from doesn't matter where you end. It is determination.

Only knights and noblemen can join the palace games, and all of them would have the same training as Arthur, and they can't even be a knight unless they can fight Arthur. So yes Arthur has to actually try.
