In relation to your commentary, just read my comment for episode 1, season 8. I assure, it gives you all the backround knowledge, without spoilering any of the plot, because that's not my intention anyways (if you really want to 😉) Talking about "Roadrunners", one of my favorites, just because it's very well done classic horror. I like the genre-variety of Vince Gilligans writing, no matter if funny or dark, he's always on point. By the way, of course Mulder carried Scully like Doggett did. First what comes to my mind is, when he carried her out of the spaceship in antarctica "1st movie". 😉 Then you said they should have named this episode "The Host". But episode 2 of season 2 already had this title. The one with the flukeman in the sewers. Also pretty gross episode. 😄

Agent Squirrels

There is some shipping of Doggett and Scully, but I would say most people love them as friends. He seems like a ride-or-die dude. It's a pretty straightforward relationship so far, and Doggett is a straightforward person, which is unusual for this show.
