the girls are flirtinggg

Honey and Summer are diametrically opposed people. They stand at odds in their politics, in personal values, on ideas of femininity, on acceptable pizza toppings. And yet. They’re drawn to one another.

Honey fits the bill for the stereotypical “useless lesbian”, as she is easily flustered and awkward about approaching pretty girls. She’s also, y’know, kinda horrible. In Honey’s own words, she has trouble shutting up when she’s nervous, meaning any attempts to be flirty and charming inevitably disintegrate into Honey launching into a lengthy diatribe about the collapse of traditional values. This doesn’t do her many favors with the local lesbian scene. Even if Honey could manage to act like a decent human being in front of a girl, she is deeply sexually repressed and afraid of intimacy, often citing a virginity pledge she took as a teen. At the end of the day Honey gets to feel like a pillar of conservative sensibilities in a sea of degeneracy, but she remains deeply, deeply frustrated….and, well, lonely.

Through her political rival Skye, Honey meets Summer.

Summer is a phys ed teacher, a trans lesbian, and the daughter of a blue collar family- all demographics that have historically been hammered down on by conservatives. Summer must therefore be much more politically aware than she’d like to be. She differs from her dear baby sister Skye, however. Summer doesn't really believe in what she calls "sitting around wringing her hands" and blogging about the problems of their world. Summer believes in direct action. Summer has been arrested a few times for civil disobedience. Skye writes precision-strike take-down pieces, Summer throws bricks through windows. Skye interviews families affected by corporate pollution, Summer and her gal pals go to town meetings and demand the local leaders drink the sludgy polluted tap-water they insist is so safe for everyone else to drink. Skye organizes protests, Summer leads strikes. Their approaches are both important, just different- but both sisters take issue with how the other engages politically.

Romantically/sexually speaking, Skye is entirely repulsed by Honey because Skye's feelings of attraction toward others are always partly informed by the person's core values. Summer, however, is considerably less noble. While she would definitely not want to date Honey (at least not Honey in her current mindset), she would absolutely screw her just for the fun of it. She just finds Honey kinda cute, in a pathetic sorta way. Summer would welcome the challenge of ruffling Honey, of making her lose her composure, of cracking her open to reveal all those oh-so mortal flaws and hypocrisies and wants and needs. Does Honey also want that? Hmmm.

….yes. Honey wants that dumb jock dog to a degree that terrifies her. basically:

Honey: You should be addicted to shutting your mouth! >:O

Summer: You wanna fuck me so bad it makes you look stupid

Summer is super cool! Both of them actually. Their designs and characters are sooo creative - love it! I'm just wondering (since you also drew Summer with blue eyes a few times) which eye color she has? Or if you aren't sure yet, because honestly...I like both options. :D Although the green eyes really suit her.

I really love that Honey, despite having obviously problematic world views, isn't a villain or one sided.
