Usually, this goes up on the fifth but that was a day off for me and I don't post on my off days (Tuesdays and Saturdays). Well, happy sixth day of the month! Here's the question thread.

Here you can ask me things you're wondering about for our games or company and they'll be answered at the end of the month an an audio recording (with a text transcript too). Just make sure the questions long follow the guidelines!

The thread will close after September 19th.

Guidelines:

1. Please don't reply to other people's questions even if you know the answer. The fun of joining a Q&A is that the developer can give a direct response to you and that everyone else also gets to hear/see the answer in the end of the month post. Having another player resolve the question in the comments right here might not be what the asker was hoping for. This thread is more about having a good time rather than looking for an immediate response to an important question. And if you do have a question you want to hear about right away, it's best to ask in some other thread or to message me directly.

2. I'm afraid questions about what scenes/choices/art assets Our Life: Now & Forever will include aren't answerable right now. Most of the details are decided as the game is created and currently I'm only writing Step 1. I do know some things coming later, but only a small fraction of the whole game.

3. The questions can't be about more serious/potentially upsetting topics because I don't want those listening to suddenly be surprised with something they might not have been prepared for/want to be confronted with.

4. Please keep the questions here to things that wouldn't be really hard to tackle in an off-the-cuff, spoken out loud kind of Q&A, aha. Questions about a half dozen characters or wanting an entire theoretical situation described aren't super doable in this situation.

You can always send me questions outside of the audio Q&A if they wouldn't work here!

What do Baxter and Ren think of MC and Tamarack in step 1? MC can choose if they like them or not but is it mutual?

Hi! I hope you had a great birthday! I also hope everyone is well, thank you for all of your hard work! This is a sillier question but I think it would be cute to ponder: if kid Qiu and Tam were farmers what kind of produce do you think would be their favorite to grow? Another question I’m curious about is, in the first OL depending on how Cove’s personality was adjusted would also decide what type of career path he chose later in life, will there be a similar set up in OL2 for Tam and Qiu? Hi, first time participating in a Q&A so I hope I’m following all the rules. :) I just have two questions, I don’t know if they have already been asked in another Q&A. 1: So, while playing I’ve noticed that Qiu sometimes stumbles over hard words. And I was wondering if he had some light form of dyslexia or something like that? 2: This is more of a silly question. If the OL characters were Vampires would they have certain abilities or traits?

Now that the writing for step 2 is under way, I’m curious the extent of which the jealousy/envy feature will affect scenes in the game. Will it make some scenes happen completely differently or will it maybe just change a couple of lines here and there? Either way it’s cool and a feature that I’m excited about ^_^

If this breaks rule 3 please let me know and I'll delete the comment. But I've recently been thinking about Qiu and their rebellious streak in step 2 and it got me thinking. I know they're only about 14 so I'm hoping I already know the answer to this, but will there be any underage drinking or drug use during their teenage rebellion years? I know serious topics and making mistakes are parts of growing up, so I wanted to sort of ask how serious/dark do you think their teenage years will be(so I can mentally prepare myself for any possibly triggering subjects hdhshd). Again let me know if this is against the rules, and keep up the amazing work!! I absolutely adore your games and they've done so much for me 💕

Hi! I’m so insanely happy Step2 is in production now!! Anyways, in Step 2(preview) you xould choose a nickname for Qiu and Tamarack, will it be pointed out by the character that you call them differently than before? And will there will be more nicknames, pointed at the LIs interests, like Starlight or shooting star for Qiu, as a throwback to the magic moment where Qiu wanted to wish to see a shooting star, or something along those lines? I think it’s obvious that the nicknames, even the non-custom ones, wouldn’t be pointed out by the character, but still, I’m curious about it. Oh! And, I’m sure this question was asked before, but when are the dynamics family and beloved planned to come into reality?

Hi! I've read several questions about Qiu dating the MC and the way they refer to their partner more casually and so on... It seems to me that Qiu doesn't like formal relationships that much (probably it's just me, since I am a bit cheesy and clingy lol) . I know we are very far from the point in which we can date the leads, but I was wondering if their relationship would be more casual than serious. Nothing wrong with it, just not my thing, so if that was the case I'd rather date Tamarack. I hope that makes sense.

Step 1 Tamarack seems to have her own way of doing homework, where she brushes off the MC when it came to borrowing writing utensils/erasers, while Qiu seems to be more interested in doing homework/assignments even if he might have a few things other things on his mind/a bit absent-minded (I was like that myself growing up). Would Qiu be interested/willing to work with/help the MC when they have the time to do so (after all, Qiu has a busy social calendar at Stage 1)? If so, would one of the homework hang out spots be in the fort?

When Qiu and Tamarack is crushing on MC either at step 1 and/or step 2 (separately, not at the same time together), are they the type to be in denial about it or are they more relaxed and self-aware about their crush? Hello! Hope your doing well! My question is that, will be get an option to say our birthday passed in the Epilogue if it happens to be fall if Tamaracks and Qius birthdays aren't in fall. As well as, will our Mum have her own little nickname for us. Something only SHE calls us an no one else? Edit: also were WE the ones who broke the mail box? Is that why it’s worded the way it was when talking about it lol?

Also, the Overall FAQ lists Baxter as born in 1997. Since he's a year older than the main characters in OL1, shouldn't it say 1996?

Hi there! I played OLBA for the very first time last month and I've fallen absolutely in love with it. As someone who usually doesn't replay visual novels, this one has already clocked 92 hours and five playthroughs from me. Every playthrough, I always discover something new! Thank you very much for making such a beautiful game! For my question, I was wondering how Cove and Cliff managed more family oriented holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas while Cove was growing up! I know it was mentioned that Cove would sometimes go to his mom's over winter break, but what about the times Cove stayed home with his dad? Were they ever invited to the Last family's holiday celebrations? Thank you!

Hello! I’m not sure if this counts as too spoiler-y but hopefully not. It’s been mentioned how Qiu has sometimes felt different/isolated due to being Chinese in a small town. I wanted to know how they would feel about feel about a mc with Chinese heritage moving in. Would this be really huge for him or is it a nice bonus on top of someone new moving in? From the conversation about mooncakes it definitely feels positive but I’m curious about the specific thoughts he has about it. As someone who has also been one of the only Chinese people my age, I’m very excited to see this experience portrayed. Thank you :]

Hi, I just got into the series and I'm absolutely loving it! My question is, how good will we be allowed to make ourselves at riding our preferred vehicle of choice? hiiii!! im curious on how the "jealous of" feature will work for OLNF. like what will the LI's be jealous of and if it'll be predetermied (like they'll always be jealous of the same thing) or if the player chooses what they are jealous of (ie from a list of options its chosen tam is jealous of how confident the mc is).

Omg also- kind of a funny one. I noticed that in some lines of step 2 preview that’s in the public demo, there are some lines where you can choose to use swear words or not. So, do qiu and tamarack use swear words? LOL.

I know the player has the option to pick if they previously did ballet or not, but I was wondering if it would ever be noted in the script that the MC could take the hobby seriously? hihi!! i dont make any comments too often but i always try to keep updated on every one of the posts, but even then some of my questions mightve already been addressed so feel free to skip em if they have been haha for the business side of things: how's the timeline for the game's development looking? are you still hoping / aiming for it to release in fall 2025 with the full first 3 steps and all free moments completed? or will it potentially be pushed back a bit, especially in light of the process of hiring a community manager, and that which caused it? do you have a loose outline for the progress per month with things like coding words, adding sound effects / voice lines, etc, or do you just take it as you go without worrying too much about hard deadlines? about the characters: do you have any definitive ideas on if any of the kids are neurodivergent? or is it all up to headcanon? to me, qiu and tamarack both seem very neurodivergent coded (qiu with adhd, and tam being autistic) but im not sure if that was an unintentional characterisation of them or if theyre meant to be read as nd. i know being queer and being neurodivergent are very often overlapped, so that's why i'm curious on if it was intentionally coded that way or not. if you havent given such information before, what are some of the kids' favourite hobbies? do any of them write stories, draw silly comics, play with clay or other art supplies, etc? it's fun to know the smaller details that dont always get featured in the main stories of games like these. as long as none of it's spolier territory, of course. do any of the kids (mainly ren, qiu, and tam, cos we know most of baxter's already) have specific styles or kind of, genres of clothing they like? like, things that have a specific fabric or feel, things that give off a certain vibe, or clothing items that they'd want more of, even if it's not the season for them? (like ren with gloves, maybe) sorry for the longwindedness and id my questions come off as strange, my autistic curiousity loves all the weird little details about things i enjoy, and i adore the our life games and its characters especially. hope things have been well for you behind the scenes :> !

Would Step 1 Tamarack ever reach a point of "okay stop copying me for once!" or is she pretty much always genuinely thrilled to match/lead? 3. What are Baxter's professional aspirations past his current Wedding Planner position, if any? Like would he like to eventually run his own firm kind of thing, or is this his ideal vocation, or something else? 4. Was it at all hard for Cove to see MC with Baxter if both Cove/MC were crushing and Baxter/MC were dating in Step 3?

Hello!!! Thank you for doing this! I hope you’re feeling okay, resting well, and having fun both with game dev and outside of it!!! Here are my questions (as always skip any you can’t answer or don’t want to ❤️) 1. If the OLNF leads became parents, what do you think they would want to be called? (Assuming that’s answerable even though the age they’re at is one far from that being applicable haha) 2. You’re obviously a very talented writer, but one of my favorite things is the comedy you put into your games. I’ve had to pause my play throughs a lot of times just because I was laughing too hard to keep going. Do you laugh at your own jokes or the situations the characters end up in while you’re writing scripts? 3. While in development, or even right now now that you’re in full swing scripting for Step 2 in OLNF, have you had any moments where your own characters have surprised you? Like you had intended for them to be or act a certain way, but they took on a life of their own and you ended up with something different from what you’d thought you would? 4. Is step 2 Tamarack someone who would appreciate a friend who gets kind of fired up on her behalf when it comes to her parents (not to the point of confrontation or inserting themselves where they don’t belong, obviously, but having this attitude when it’s the two of them where the MC clearly has strong feelings about the matter because they love Tamarack and think she deserves the world, whether they express that openly or try to hide it)? Would it make her feel vindicated or feel cathartic to hear? Would she have a mix of appreciation that someone is so passionate about her and sadness that that someone isn’t her parents? Would she be bothered by her friend having strong feelings about it because it’s not their place and prefer that they try not to show if they did? 5. Does Qiu have any sensory issues associated with their ADHD? They seem more sensory seeking than avoidant, at least going by their step 1 self, but do they have issues with certain textures, sounds, etc?

Well, it seems like I remembered I didn't submit my month's questions right at the last moment to do so! But first thing first - I hope you're well? Take care of yourself and thank you for doing these as usual! So, based on previous Q&As I know that we will truly be able to determine how popular or not is our OL2 MC at school. I'm curious about some more details about that, if you don't mind. - If we decide our MC is popular or not (or whatever in-between), will we be able to determine the reason for that? Like for example "unpopular because is too shy" vs "unpopular because they act hostile towards other people". - And if the answer to the previous question is yes, then will we be able to change the reason between Step 1 and Step 2 - again with the same example to make it clearer, let's say MC is unpopular in one step because they are too shy, but while still unpopular, it's because they act hostile in the other step (as opposed to simply being unpopular in one and popular in the next which I'm assuming is included regardless)? - Oh and since I'm already asking about school, will we be able to decide if our MC tends to skip school? Mostly for Step 2, I guess. - Also, an unrelated question, but in the last Q&A you said in Step 1 DLC there will be a moment more focused on MC's feelings about their mom instead of Qiu and Tam. Will we have stuff like that in future steps too, to reflect on how the relationship changed or not?

Happy Halloween in advance, I hope this month went pretty well. As always, feel free to answer whatever you feel like. <3 1. Do you plan to add Halloween moments in the other Steps? I mean if we will be able to see the crew celebrating or experiencing Halloween as teenagers and young adults. 2. What would be the favorite horror movies of the LI's of both Our Life games? (If they are not terrified of that genre). 3. Will there be another secondary character who will have a crush on Qiu or Tamarack in Step 2? It would be interesting to see a little rivalry with someone if we have the same romantic interest.

The sample charms shown this month were really cute and cool. 😁 Any chance of a "Go Otters!" school mascot charm for the phone? With Qiu withdrawing from full time dance class appearances (so the Step can focus on Tam's music classes and MC potentially joining in), would our MCs be able to make a deal in the Step 2 Prologue to keep them up to date on ballet lessons taught in their absence? I can imagine my MCs telling Qiu that they'll keep their absent friend's spot warm in ballet class (that is if Qiu returns to ballet by the time Step 3 comes along).
