Oh boy, it's Project W Monday, haha. I'm not posting later this week so there's space for other posts to happen before the end of October. So, here's what I've been thinking about lately.

Every month so far I've been happy and surprised with how much I'm able to come up with and improve for this game's concept. And yet, each month I also decide I have to change major elements. I feel like this is never going to get to a point where I can safely share less vague info. It can be pretty frustrating. I just want to know for certain what I'm doing already.

Still, something I'm very excited about is that I finally have a "theme" or "aesthetic" for the world that I can put into words. I kept adding all these disconnected elements because I liked them but couldn't explain even to myself exactly what I was going for. Now I can, and it all makes sense, haha. Next year I want to start giving people more of an idea of what at least the vibe will be, even if there's not much specific story or character reveals. This is one story I'll explain fully then.

During October I also managed to get a overall idea of how I'd like a few more characters to look- one lead and two of the most important side characters. And I gave one of those side characters a name!

All the leads have continued to develop in personality and motivations. I've got a lot of cool ideas for them. I mentioned back in June's post that this game is gonna have some harsher content than OL. That does apply to how the leads act too, towards side characters and the MC. I'm nervous about how well it'll be pulled off, but my asperation is to have this set of leads not be the same kind of ideal real life partners that I've been making for the past several years. After two OL games, it'd be fun to have a cast where they've got red flags but it's alright because it's a fantasy story where things work out. They're not evil villains, but they'd make Baxter's antics seem like a pleasant walk in a park. And this would mean there'd be a lot of interesting ways the MC could be played that weren't possible in prior games. I'll keep working on the concept.

But that's this month small insight into my planning!

Im fine with more mature themes. It'll make it it's own thing which I'm excited to explore.

That’s exciting to read! Love the OL leads but I’m also excited to get to know more the red-flaggy leads for project w!

rory 𖤐

as much as i love the comfort in the OL series, i’m actually very hyped for a game with harsher themes, angst and even red flag leads 🤭

Lonely_Mermaid

Hey, we're here for it! Nobody is perfect, and I'm excited to find out about the characters' red flags!! 💕

Naicha

RED FLAGS???? M'Y FAVORITE TYPES OF MAIN LEAD TO DATE I'M IN AND EVEN MORE EXCITED!!!!

Devine

I’m excited to see what kind of red flags show up! Baxter’s gave me whiplash when I played his route.

To be honest, I think while some aspects of characters could make them "objectively red flags" for sure, there's also a big part of subjectivity in there. Since you mentionned Baxter, I will bounce off of that. As you certainly know by now, he's one of my favorite LIs ever made in a game. I love him both for his personality and storyline, AND for the fact his route is "darker" than the others. Thing is, I have played a lot (and by that I mean a LOT) of games that are generally way darker than OL and that have a lot of awful things happening with and to the LIs, sometimes by their own actions. And yet, despite of that, Baxter's route in OL is one of my most gut wrenching experiences in romance-featuring games of all times. Simply because I resonate with it on such a deep level and because I feel for him so much and what not. Now, I'm very excited for a darker tone, don't get me wrong! But funnily enough, I'm actually not sure I will consider it "worse" (though in a good way) than Baxter's route - not because I have no confidence in how you'll write it, but because of just what Baxter's route makes me feel. So all in all, long story short, don't forget there's subjectivity here from the player's side too!

When I say that Baxter's actions are easier to accept in comparison, I just mean it in terms of what made him not such a great partner. He ghosted you for five years, but these folks pull far harsher stunts. It doesn't mean you'll personally think that's more emotional. They just literally treat you worse than Baxter ever did.

Konoi Kurozora

Oh I understood that, don't worry! I just mean that even with less than perfect ROs, what's "better" or "worse" and how it impacts players will still ultimately depend on each specific player! It's very subjective.

Anna Bia

Yes! I do love OL with my whole heart, but having a bit of angst with a happy ending is AMAZING

Sasha

baxter's route has always been my favorite because of the angst, the regret on his part, and the resolution being so satisfying. especcially since we get the chance to decide how quickly we forgive him. im looking forward to more stories with that level or higher of drama, since it often makes the payoff of the endgame so much more satisfying

Maideen Fair

Im excited to learn more 😊

I'm colorblind red turns green for me

I am so excited for project W, morally gray/red flag characters/love interests are executed poorly in a lot of romance but if anyone can do it well I think it’s you 😆
