It's been a long time since we've had one of these previews, haha. But now that Our Life: Now & Forever is truly our main game in production we can continue the development of the MC doll.

This most recent batch adds vitiligo as an option to add to your skin tone and the first of the fancy cultural outfit options. Tamarack gets to dress up in a dress based on her Germany heritage, we recently announced how you'll be able to choose your own ethnicity, and therefore we should let the MC wear something traditional from where they're from. There will be a lot more where these come from!

That’s so exciting omg

Rane

I am screaming because i am so excited and hyped for this!

Raine

Super excited about the cultural options for clothing! While we don't see between 14 and 18, I'm gonna make head-canons about a Quince after the game comes out :)

May I just add the fact that vitiligo isn't exactly a "skin tone" but an autoimmune disorder. It's not just some part of your skin is dark and some part of your skin is light, but it's the destruction of actual skin cells losing their color, so the "light" parts will always be stark white because the areas of the skin that are lighter isn't just because it's undergoing some kind of reverse-tanning but because the natural color is being actively stripped away entirely. there are a lot of misconceptions about vitiligo and what it actually is, and I just wanted to clear those up. hopefully you take my words into consideration

This is so exciting, I can finally live my childhood dream of wearing our national folk dress someday! (I wanted to because my Gradma got to, we're Swedish) but I'm curious if there'll be less heard of options too? Such as Sami (They are a people that live here too but are constantly having their rights taken away and no one's talking about it so it'd be really nice if they could be included. This is obviously just a suggestion of course, I understand there will be alot of work with this and I'm sure the result will be awesome regardless)

I love how intricate this is! Vitiligo usually isn't an option in a lot of games I've seen so it's nice to see them included! (And I have to say how weird it is it'll be to have straight OL2 updates after so long of OL1 being the main star of the show. It makes me melancholic knowing we're leaving Sunset Bird behind... even though I can visit it anytime I want when I replay the first game X'D) I just wanna give a heads up if there are any African traditional wear (in the broad sense of the entire continent, since it can vary from African country to African country, culture to culture) there is a distinction in the states between African Americans who are immigrants from African countries that came to the US and those that are the descendants of slaves like myself in that while the former would know the traditional wear their culture uses, the latter isn't really in the know how about that kind of thing. We can take DNA tests and make guestimations as to what we would probably wear, but it is really hard to pin down due to all the mixing. But since we can wear what we want, I don't think this is information that will necessarily be useful but I digress

Apollo

I made a few Eastern European characters who are very proud of their culture so this is amazing

Trinity

I love how incredibly inclusive this game is🥰

Mialiya

You make a good point, though I think in this case "skin tone" is meant as which layer of the MC doll the options will be attached to. I'm not disagreeing with the significance of the difference, but I think it warrants pointing out the context isn't "This is a skin tone" but "These options will be available in the skin selection section of the character creator when implemented" even if a slight rephrasing might be beneficial.

Disson

So excited that my mc can have a vitiligo option!!! 😍 Also, will there be a filter/description or some other way of knowing what culture outfits are from if we aren't familiar/can't tell?

Psykes

Looks like Brad Bratwurst will be able to wear lederhosen (apparently Edge does not recognize the word, it has the red squiggly mark under the word, and when I go to see what it recommends to replace it with? 'Leaseholder' 😳).

ItaLii

Bumping this up so people can learn what you know, and the developers can improve on this thanks to your contribution!

ItaLii

it's not just the fact it's a skin tone, the vitiligo looks tan in two of these previews. When it probably shouldn't be.

gbpatch

Thank you for the comment! I didn't mean to say that vitiligo is a type of skin tone, just that it's a new option for the skin tone part of the MC Doll creation. And the darker facial options aren't included as vitiligo, just more appearance options for the skin tone. Me mentioning the addition of vitiligo was only meant to refer to the vitiligo example. In the game itself, the vitiligo category is always pale on the skin no matter how light the character is. https://i.gyazo.com/82beed4f4fed21ba834d71f18ad991eb.png

Flightwings

The changshan!!! Very cool to let people express their heritage, and it's always nice to see different skin conditions get their representation!

gbpatch

There will be as many options as we can, but sadly there's no way to include every culture in the world. We are going to have more than just the five most obvious or something, but I'm afraid at least some players won't see an outfit that looks like their cutures'.

gbpatch

Probably not. The design will be as clear as we can make them, but not giving them specific names could be helpful. If someone would rather believe an outfit is from this other European country instead of the one we had in mind, there's really no reason we'd have to tell them they're wrong. The outfits are simple and only show the very top, so it can be easy to believe some of them could fit multiple different traditions. Qiu is Chinese and Tam is German, so in this first batch I mentioned what they were inspired by. I probably won't list off exact names for future batches.

idis91

Oh this is amazing i cant wait:D and i look forward to the new beta too:D

Disson

Oh that makes sense!! I think I was just concerned about picking the "incorrect" outfit for my mcs culture and being disrespectful or something bc I confused it with something else. That cleared up my worries, thank you for explaining 😊

Anthony D Crowley

I understand, Thank you for trying your best and for the amazing work you've already done❤

Yarino Tengoku

you telling me i might get to put my little lady in a Kimono? nice.

Tame

It's really good! I cross my fingers to find to a madras clothe lol, French Guiana here, and I don't remind never see it anywhere in any media.

alex.

Fingers crossed for more Filipino representation hehehe 😁😁 (since Liz was from the PH too)

ellemfaoh

It'd be so sick to see Bosnian/Slav or Irish themed clothes! Keep up the great work <3

Gatewaytono

a possible simplified kente option? 🥹🇬🇭

Audi

cute cute!!

killjinx

will we be able to pick more than one ethnicity for all the mixed ppl out there? 😮

Koivu

So cool! <3

Zilarey

That's such a awesome touch! Thank you 🥺

bananamilk

I hope so too! I’d love some traditional filipino clothing to dress my mcs in ☺️

gbpatch

You can type in whatever you want, but the game doesn't go into much detail so you can't talk about how it's a mix of two things.

Elwynn Delaine

When asking for a darker skin tone, I was told this would be too difficult.

gbpatch

This won't apply to Opal, which is a main reason entire new skin tones are such a difficult addition. We can add still add more details just to the MC Doll. I'm sorry for that.

Ezra the Enby

oooh what about kippah/yarmulke and tallit for Jewish mcs, especially in step 2 if they were bar/bat mitzvah'd since they are 14 in step 2 and people usually go through that at 13.
