Hi! I've got the question thread ready to go.

Here you can ask me things you're wondering about for our games or company and they'll be answered at the end of the month an an audio recording (with a text transcript too). Just make sure the questions long follow the guidelines!

The thread will close after March 19th.

Guidelines:

1. Please don't reply to other people's questions even if you know the answer. The fun of joining a Q&A is that the developer can give a direct response to you and that everyone else also gets to hear/see the answer in the end of the month post. Having another player resolve the question in the comments right here might not be what the asker was hoping for. This thread is more about having a good time rather than looking for an immediate response to an important question. And if you do have a question you want to hear about right away, it's best to ask in some other thread or to message me directly.

2. I'm afraid questions about what scenes/choices/art assets Our Life: Now & Forever will include aren't answerable right now. Most of the details are decided as the game is created and currently I'm only writing Step 1. I do know some things coming later, but only a small fraction of the whole game.

3. The questions can't be about more serious/potentially upsetting topics because I don't want those listening to suddenly be surprised with something they might not have been prepared for/want to be confronted with.

4. Please keep the questions here to things that wouldn't be really hard to tackle in an off-the-cuff, spoken out loud kind of Q&A, aha. Questions about a half dozen characters or wanting an entire theoretical situation described aren't super doable in this situation.

You can always send me questions outside of the audio Q&A if they wouldn't work here!

Hello! I have really liked playing OL since I discovered the first game, thank you and everyone else for all you do! My question is just about the romance routes and similarly to the first OL how you can unlock a separate romanceable character route via paid DLC, is that something that will be coming back for OL2? If so is Pran one of them? That was my silly little question again thanks for all the hard work ^^

Hi! Thank you for still doing these, as usual! I hope you have a great month! I have two questions this time. I think I already asked the first one before, but I either somehow missed the answer or you didn't have an answer yet, so feel free to just tell me it was already answered if you did. - My OL2 MC hates his birth name, and has a nickname everyone but his mom uses. I'm planning on having MC change names, and for his Step 1 nickname to become his actual name in Step 2 onward. Will it be recognized by the characters that MC's old nickname (specifically) became their name? - You said Baxter will reappear in Step 4 - but the timeline confuses me a bit, so when will it be in regards to Our Life 1's timeline / steps? And will we get to chose what were the Sunset Bird happenings for him in relation to our other MC, if we want to? He's my MC's chosen LI in my "canon playthrough" and I'm wondering if it'll be mentionned if I select so.

Happy March everyone! I've got two questions; If Qiu, Tamarack and Cove were to meet, what would they all think of each other? I'm super intrigued by the idea since while Cove is entirely about the ocean, I feel like he could appreciate Tamarack's love for the wilderness? And Qiu reminds me a lot of Derek so that's interesting to place against Cove! Secondly, what are Tamarack and Qiu's favourite desserts?

You’ve talked a bit before about Qiu’s reaction to someone who is usually only interested in boys/men also liking them, but how would they feel about someone who usually wasn’t into boys/men liking them? Would it be irrelevant to them, or would it feel validating, or something else?

As always, skip any of the questions if you can't answer them.: 1) WIll there perhaps be a moment that involves celebrating the Mid-Autumn/Moon Festival to any extent? 2) Aside from their parents, how does Step 2 Qiu generally act towards adults (like teachers, Opal, Yusuf, Granny, etc.)? 3) Between Tamarack, Serenity, and Ren during step 2, who would you say is the most socially awkward with people outside of their close friends?

Hi! I'm actually playing OL1 currently as I type this, it's my new major fixation. I've absolutely fallen in love with this game and can't wait for the second one! My question is, do you know what language Qiu's family speaks? Cantonese? Mandarin? Maybe something else? I'd also like to know if they can or ever will learn to speak it, along with if their parents know. I'm currently studying Mandarin, so I was intrigued.

-Can we be best friends with Qiu in step 1? -Does unassuming and accepting have the same amount of unique dialogue options as other options? -Will Pran be one of our friends, or will he be more of a random acquaintance? -What the Tamarack and Qiu families think about us? I wonder if their opinions change based on the type of Mc we are. For example, Opa might prefer a quieter Mc (idk). -Will we be able hang out with Mrs. and Mr. Lin, Oma, and Opa one on one? I really want to feel like a part of their family and be treated like one of their own kids. In OL1, I wanted to be closer to Cliff and Kira, but it always felt like there was a bit of distance between us. -Is there a way to have a bike or "wheels" and still ride with Qui? -Are you planning on having any sentamental items that the mc or cast hold on to? like in OL1 with the keychain -In the image of the diner it looks like their is a second floor, does anyone live up there or is it stoarge?

Hi again :D here to ask more random question cause I like to overthink!!~ please, feel free to ignore those you don't wish to answer :D and sorry if the questions sound familiar, I have bad memory. 1-how severely are we allowed to downgrade relations? Like, could tamarack feel like bff then we choose qui (or whatever )and we drops her down to friend/neighbor? Would she have that sentiment? Like would she be like, "we used to be best friends"? 2- will there be looks/odd reactions from others if we "copy" (sorry I can't think of a better word) qius pronouns as they change through out the story? Or will it just be seen as our MC discovering ourselves, thanks to qiu and others. 3-Do the characters recognize if you have similar features, to them. Like if I look like tamarack/qui, will they notice, and will it play any part in the story? 4-How much teen angst, would you consider too much teen angst for the golden grove kids? And is there something that's too angsty/taboo that you would never include in any of your games? 5-if you dislike your mom in game, is she less supportive of your activities? 6-Will other parents notice your "Ill will" towards your mother? Will they ever try to intervene? 7-do you like anchovies pizza? 8-darren has an older brother? Is he cute? :3 9-Im assuming we don't get to choose the clothing options this game for qiu and tamarack? 10-i kinda...wanna...have a better relationship with tamarackz parents than she does, just to see what happens. Does that make me a bad person :o 11 so, if you crush on tamarack and her you ( And jm assuming the same sort of sexual preference conversation happens with both qiu and tamarack as it did with cove) if you say you prefer guys, nonbinary,(vice versa) will her reaction show? Or will be seen as "Oh, okay, great for you MC" ALSo DID MR HOLDEN KNOW I LOVED HIM ALL ALONG CAUSE I SWEAR TO GOD!!?? 🥺

Hi :) I have a question regarding the monthly beta builds ^^ I was wondering if there is any rhythm to when the beta builds are released (for example always in the 3rd week of the month or something like that)? I am really looking forward to next update of it and having an approximate date might make it a bit more bearable xD And a question regarding the hair styles of OL2, I have noticed before that Qiu commented on the fact that my MC wore a bandage, so I was wondering if that is also the case if the MC wears a hair style that hides a lot of their face or their eyes (for me that could be interpreted as being shy, or hiding something the MC doesn't like about themselves)? 1) Hello! Thank you for always answering our questions! I'm sorry if this seems like a common sense question, but in OL2 when the characters speak they sometimes get these art popups such as clouds or hearts when they say something. When we are walking with Qiu and Tam to school, Qiu says something such as, "We're roommates" and then hearts pop up. Are the hearts always going to strictly represent romantic feelings or could it mean other things as well? Could you please explain what each art popup can represent? I tend to be quite slow with understanding peoples emotions even if it's obvious at times. 2) In OL1, we were able to customize Coves looks and clothes, will this be an option for the LI's in OL2? 3) In OL2, I was wondering if there is a clear difference between "admiring" and "doting" such as, does our LI still want to look out and care for us if we have them set to "admiring" towards us? 4) What step will we be able to start dating our LI in OL2? 5) Lastly, I know this is more of a head cannon situation, but if we were to speak another language in OL2 would Tam or Qiu learn it since we would be with both or one of them? Especially if the MC's mom and the MC preferred to speak their second language when they're at home?

this probably breaks Rule #3 but figured I'd ask anyway, in a previous q&a you said that bigotry won't appear in Our Life, my question is, are those things nonexistent/depreciated in the Our Life universe, or is it present but simply kept off screen?

I don't know how to put this into words, but considering that Darren/Ren/Renee wouldn't be able to get a DLC (along the lines of Derek/Baxter's respective DLCs), would we still be able to have opportunities to become mutual friends during the time we get to have with her/them? It'd be nice to have a (slightly) older character to ask for advice (whether it's to help the MC navigate Qiu's Step 2 social barriers, or maybe the MC is going through their own changes that they may be going through and they are not ready to talk about it to Qiu, Tamarack or Opal at the time).

1) I was looking back at some OL2 posts and I saw Qiu with hearts in his eyes when he meets us. If I am recalling this correctly, when the betas first started to come out Qiu had hearts in his eyes in my play but in my most recent replay of the betas I didn't see hearts in his eyes. Is there a reason for this? Did I click the wrong options? I have called him "pretty" in all of my plays. 2) I wanted to get your opinion on this if you can, but in the OL1 fandom I have seen some people head cannon that Derek has always loved the MC even when they are in a relationship with Cove. Do you believe or see Derek loving or maybe just liking the MC all those years, even when she marries Cove and he just decides to support them since they're his friends? 3) In OL2, will our backyard be redone or decorated? 4) In the latest beta, all of the neighbors went to our home. I was wondering if that was their first time there? I was hoping to see them reacting to how the MC and Opal spruced it up especially with the home sitting there for so long. 5) In OL2, are the circular dots in our hair noticeable to others? Such as, I have dark brown hair but I have cranberry circular dots in my hair and even the outline of my hair is cranberry, however the game only recognizes my eyes that match with my mom and not the dots. Are they highlights in a way like Kyra's hair? 6) Here is my last question and thank you for answering what you can! In OL1 Cove always loved going on Poppy Hill and sneaking into the MC's home. Do you have plans to create something along the same lines for OL2? It's okay if you can't answer in full detail.

hello! first time asking a question here, and im not sure if it's been answered already (whether through q&a or a post i missed) but i was wondering if there would ever be another va casting call open to the patrons or eventually the public via twitter for ol2. i think, if i remember correctly, it's only something higher/highest tier patrons get access to before public announcement, but i havent been on the highest tier for almost a year now (i think). although hopefully that'll change back again soon because i love your our life games and i want to support as much as i can (comfortably) afford to! thank you for taking the time to read this :> ! Hiii, my questions for this round are all over the place so forgive me 😭 1. Will there be a moment centering more on the Lins' family dynamic coming up? I know that Fancy Fun was a ceritified Tamarack banger moment and I thought Hide and Seek would be the same with Qiu having a more antagonistic role but it focuses on them both evenly than it being moreso about Qiu's own issues? We saw a crack there but it wasn't nearly as revealing as Tamarack's especially if you leave Qiu. I really hope the Lins and Qiu get more to shine in this step. 2. I know it's canon that Qiu has ADHD and it will get brought up, but I do have to wonder if Tamarack is autistic? I know we seen her in only one step and a preview of another but she has a lot of autistic qualities that shine out to me so I was wondering if that was something you can answer at the moment. 3. I noticed Qiu wears a sweater in every step, is there a reason for it or do they just like sweaters that much? I guessed it was because they get cold easily but I wasn't sure. 4. I know the LIs have a favorite drinks but what are Tamarack and Qiu's favorite foods? Relatively silly question I know 😭 And lastly, 5. Does Tamarack's arc in the game involve fatphobia whether it's from Golden Grove as a whole or her own family? I noticed that Tamarack likes to wear clothing that are light and don't restrain her movement but in step 2 notoriously, she wears a heavy looking sweater that covers her body and (to me anyways) insulated leggings. The outfit is cute but as someone who is plus sized, it gives me the same vibes as the outfits I used to wear when I was insecure of my body when I was younger and especially when people would say anything fatphobic. And in the details that's come out about step 2, Tamarack sounds like she is desperate to fit in so I was wondering if I'm correct on my assumptions.

I heard you're taking a vacation soon and I hope it goes well and that you enjoy your time off <3 My question is actually related to the previous Q&A, idk if someone else asked, but what is the relationship between XOXO Droplets and OLBA's step 3 moment, "Serendipity"? Could you please explain the connections between the two, and what you meant with players maybe feeling like they're missing something? Just in case it is important information for the answer, I've heard mention of XOXO Droplets, and I think it was an earlier game, but don't know much else about it. Thank you for your hard work (yours and the whole team's), I adore OLBA and OLNF, both games mean a lot to me <3 <3

Hi! I answered that in the prior Q&A. Basically, depending on how old they were, they might find it more reassuring or more neutral. It kind of depends on how confident they are in their identity at that point, but it definitely wouldn't be a bad thing at any time.
