Character Exploration - Velik and Ro (Patreon)
Content
These were actually just little figure drawing sessions, but I also wanted to make the effort to think about the characters a bit and figure out their respective ways they hold themselves.
Velik's fun and pretty outwardly expressive which hopefully makes him a bit easier to follow along as the protagonist. He's actually fairly reserved for a Creatik which you'll see when I draw some of the other characters. He's got a lot of excess energy overall and even at his most reserved, has these frenetic little movements like he can't help himself. Very cat-coded like I write haha
Ro's someone I have to make an effort with because he's very, very intentional most times with what he does and how he expresses himself. He makes great efforts to appear a certain way. His goal is to be as friendly and charming as possible while also maintaining a general distance from people. It's subconscious most times and even he doesn't notice just how much he naturally draws his movements inwards and keeps himself tensed. He has to remind himself to relax sometimes.
It's fun to compare them because they're sort of foils. Velik start with envying Ro for the seemingly effortless way he can integrate himself in a community. On the other hand, Ro finds himself envying Velik's earnest character and the way he so genuinely expresses himself at times. For Ro, it's a necessary façade and in the back of his mind, he's always wary, because that's how he's grown up his whole life. For Velik, it simply comes natural to him and only needed to be coaxed out after being restrained for so long by the way he was raised.
