This was a lot of fun to watch again and see it through your eyes! I know this film gets some flack for cheesiness, but I think it's wonderful for what it's meant to be: a lighthearted frolic sprinkled with the Disney magic touch and aimed to appeal to pre-adolescents and teens as well as adults who still enjoy that sort of thing (like me, lol). Sometimes I enjoy musicals, sometimes I don't. Here, I definitely enjoyed it, and I appreciate that the songs and dances weren't constant. They allowed the story to develop without constant lyrical interruption, so the songs were more of an enhancement than a distraction. Explanation of the game: I got the impression it had been going on for awhile, but we only got to see the end, the last play, with Jay and Carlos. Personally, I was grateful to not have to sit through a half-hour of them playing that game, ha-ha-ha! We got to the see highlight instead where we see Jay embrace the concept of a team and letting go of ego. One criticism of the film: Ben being crowned as king *still* confuses me in this second viewing. HIs father is king. How can BEN also be king? The Beast is still alive. Is Beast relinquishing his crown to allow a teenage boy to have the throne? Are they going to rule jointly? Being an Alaskan, it's true I don't know a whole lot about how monarchy and succession works, but I thought the current ruler has to die or abdicate the throne before another king is crowned. My thought about museum security: Security was light because with all the villains and their sidekicks and followers on the Isle of the Lost, they didn't expect any trouble or theft. Parenting: Jane is proof that having "good" parents doesn't mean that their kids won't sometimes make poor decisions. Audrey and Chad are proof that even well-meaning parents who love their kids might spoil them to become selfish, self-absorbed brats. And of course, the over-arching theme of having "bad" or even horrible parents doesn't mean that their kids can't or won't grow up make good choices, especially if they are given the opportunities to allow them to flourish. Sorrowful news about Cameron Boyce (Carlos): Very sadly, this talented young man's life was cut short just 4 years after the release of The Descendants. Cameron died from an epileptic seizure at the age of 20.

In 1170, King Henry II of England had his son and heir crowned as Henry the Young King, which was in part a response to how the 1120 death of the king's only son had led to the Anarchy succession civil war between the king's daughter Matilda and her cousin Stephen (which the TV series House of the Dragon/source book Fire & Blood is somewhat inspired by). As a practice it didn't catch on, partly because Henry II never gave his son autonomy of rule, and partly because the Young King died in 1183, 6 years before his father. Ever since then, the monarchy in the UK at least has changed hands only via death, abdication, or revolution. Definite examples of revolution include: 1327 (Edward II deposed by his wife and replaced by their son Edward III) 1399 (Richard II deposed by Henry IV) 1461 (Henry VI deposed by Edward IV) 1470 (Edward IV deposed by Henry VI) 1471 (Henry VI deposed by Edward IV) 1553 (Lady Jane Grey deposed and declared a usurper by Mary I) 1688 (James II deposed by parliament and replaced by William III).
