The reality of all the residents in the golden kingdom is super bleak. Stuck there for a millenium, unable to age, feel hunger, or taste food. No elderly because presumably they tried to leave and ended up as fiends instead. And knowing that you're not even really outside, even if it looks that way—they're stuck underground with nothing else around. It's a wonder the inhabitants haven't gone fully insane. It's amazing Yaad was even able to keep his composure when asking for help.

Laios staring at his hand in disappointment after Izutsumi slaps it away is such a small bit, but one of my favourite. He was so ready for a headpat and so disappointed. The cut to him putting himself in timeout in the corner is so good. Also Marcille looks so cute in that dress! The red one, not the...cubes (although she can pull it off). And Izutsumi looks great in hers, though I imagine they never would've gotten her into it if she weren't full catmode right now. And of course Chilchuck's first thought when given time alone is how fast he can get a drink—he kept getting interrupted in previous episodes when trying to have a bit of wine.

I think Kabaru picked up elf mannerisms and the way he presents himself through osmosis. I don’t think the elves have the same idea of what masculinity is vs what humans have. They’re just so damn androgynous, there’s very little sexual dimorphism in elves

I have the same theory as Sheera. Idk, something about Kabru gives me STRONG lunatic magician vibes. PLUS, he's concerned about who the dungeon is going to go to - he already KNOWS that whoever makes it to the "heart of the dungeon" will claim it! That's something we really just learned about this episode - so how does Kabru already know it? Especially if he claims to have not been so far into the dungeon. The more i think about it, the more it's even more possible that he's the lunatic magician. Maybe in a human body or something, but they are definitely connected.

The "whoever beats the magician gets the dungeon" thing was told to us in episode one. It was the opening scene, it's a legend on the island which is in part why so many adventurers are sent down there, so Kabru would have already known this well before ever stepping foot in the dungeon. Also like...he lived next to another dungeon, not hard to assume it was at least somewhat similar.

imma just say, we know from this episode alone kabru is from a town where the dungeon got so bad the canarys came to take care of it and this incident was only 15 years ago and kabru was a kid when it happened so he isnt very old. he lived somewhere with a dungeon so he knows alot about them plus being raised by the vice comander of the canarys and his interest in enlisting (but couldnt because hes a tallman) we can assume he would have gained more knowledge on dungeons. plus its common knowledge that the person who defeats the magician gains reign over the kingdom and the people who are from the golden kingdom if they leave the dungeon they perish

it's interesting that the minute Kabru reminds them that he was raised by their vice captain, they immediately went from treating him like a stranger to be mistrusted to a little kid to be talked down to which explains a lot about how they view non-elves. I hope that the second act can expand a bit on his past that only really got shown in bits from the manga

Should watch Mieruko-chan (12 ep, horror comedy), which has the same situation as the ghost in Meshi. As long as you don't acknowledge the ghost, it won't run rampant. It has some Junji-ito creepy art style for the ghosts. It's pretty good.

Didn’t we hear again at the end of this episode that the king made it to the surface and told the ppl above this before dying. This was stated in other episodes so it seems like common knowledge for this particular dungeon.
