For the court scene, no you are not allowed to bombshell the court with witnesses that weren't disclosed in discovery. Both parties are entitled to see the evidence, witness testimony and deposition transcripts and anything else they have WELL before trial. If they tried that in an actual US court, the witness would get struck immediately from evidence and led out of the courtroom promptly.

Not only did the Brady Rule violation occur right after the bombshell witness was revealed, but the judge immediately APOLOGIZES to a potential murderer, lets the witness speak out of turn to him in the middle of trial, then DISMISSES A CASE in the same day that this violation occurs. Absolutely bonkers. I get dramatizing the plot for certain reasons, but holy shit all the director and scriptwriters have to do is some BASIC RESEARCH into law, which is like directly parallel to forensics?? Why is it that a comedy movie with a Fat italian tryna defend two young kids wrongfully arrested for a murder can execute that kind of accuracy and a TV show with multiple seasons cannot? Wasted potential.

I mean yeah, in real life the defense would've submitted some kind of form and the chief of police would've gotten a call and informed Dexter's dad that he fucked up and the guy is getting off, but that's not nearly as dramatic. Maybe like 1% of shows get courtroom scenes right, if that.

They do a good job in this show showing how dexters dark passenger took so much effort deb was basically thrown to the side to keep Dexter in check to keep him from being a person who kills innocent and how the lack of attention really messes with someone longterm.
