*MERROW-WEATHER FRIENDLY HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

Honestly? I was so ready to leave Griffith and his sheep and get back to that ship and I was not disappointed! Avast, ye mateys! Some super creepy demonic pirates attack and our crew take shelter on a seemingly quaint little island port, but of course...NOTHING is as it seems!

Plus, Isidro and Schierke make a friend, and she's quite...fishy! This volume was so fun and I was so glad to Guts again! It's about time!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

Argh me matey! So I just want to point out that that Ubik is a sci fi book by PK Dick. It’s a great book! All the God hand are based on books but Ubik is the most well known out of all of them book wise. ( I would argue 😉) him and Conrad are the hardest to remember though! Your frustration with Falconia is warranted. I see this in our world and it is sooooooooo frustrating! I mean, don’t these people see what’s going on? In Falconia? ( trying not to get political) I posed this question to husband as to why people wage war and the tendency for people to welcome emperors and dictators. He was like, well, that is how we are wired and we are lazy, we are born sheep. We like to think we aren’t but group think is a thing. ( I’m paraphrasing because this was a long discussion) For me, part of the frustration is that I personally am tired of this kind of behavior from my fellow apes. I mean, really, get your shit together! Edit: omg! Willful ignorance is something that I just… mmm! They saw the monsters, they went along knowing what is going on. Put those blinders on folks! Going against group think is seen as heroic. That is the dynamic. Let’s see how this goes. Is the pirates ghost ship corny? Yes! Is it a breath of fresh air and much needed levity? By all means, yes! It also has a current of Lovecraftian horror. I want to point out the story,” The Shadow over Insmouth” I’d say this is a homage to it. I have the manga version of this by Gao Tanabe. It is fantastic! I’d say that statue that Casca finds is very Cthulhu in nature. I love Isma! I find it funny that when people get to this point, people are pretty suspicious of her. Which is understandable! Oh Isidro and his roving eyes! I’d say that Isma is just a year or two older than he is. So basically all the kids are around the same age, probably 13-15. They are old enough to be kinda adults, but innocent enough to still be children. I think this is why Isma has absolutely no shame in getting herself ready in front of Isidro. Ok, I’m going to nerd out here. The spiral shell Isma has on her door is an ammonite. It is a fossil that is quite common. Texas was part of the Permian Sea so we have a lot of fossils around here. Husband and I love to go to fossil parks and digs! We have lots of ammonites, mostly just fragments. On our fireplace mantle we have our prize find, an almost complete ammonite that I found in a fire ant pile…. It’s my prize find! The fish in the tavern: along with just generic fish, there are some real animals in there. I recognize an Oar Fish, hatchet fish, angler fish, lizard fish, ratfish (grenadier?), and a wolf fish. Now the monster, it is a chimera of different parts. We have sucker arms from giant squid, the mouth of a lamprey and the sea hare. I love sea hares! When I was a kid in California, we would go to the tide pools. Every once in a while, I would find sea hares. They are fun! I’ve only found the smaller brown ones and not the giant black ones though. If you ever get the chance to, visit a tide pool, it is sooo fun! Sea hare https://youtu.be/15I8eIqh9iI?si=46CaR1NDXMCbJL8t I also want to say that there are a few flavors of the Guts character. We know the original, then there is Farnese and I’d argue that there are two more that fit into this category. That is all I’ll say on that! So why do people consider this to be the best manga by many? I’d say that if you have lived with it for so long, it becomes part of you in a way. People do identify with aspects of these characters, I know I do! Is it perfect? No, and I’d say that people know it’s not perfect. They still come back to it because it does speak to them on some level. This is from the survey. My favorite arc is Conviction. Why? It is chaotic, mysterious and it sets up a lot of the seeds that have given fruit that we are reaping now. It’s also shorter. It also covers topics that I find more interesting to me personally. I know, very subjective as to what arc is a persons favorite. I like to look at each arc as a separate story. They are all very different but as a whole they are more of an epic tale. Enough rambling. Tally ho to volume 36! Enjoyed your reading and having fun! It’s nice to see. 👁️👁️👁️FEB Spoilers ⬇️👁️👁️👁️ Sea hares are kinda cute! Volume 35: 15!

Ahhh, interesting! I think I remember when I was watching the anime, someone mentioning them being references to specific sci-fi books, so it’s good to have that reminder! YES, we talk in the Business Communication class I’m teaching this semester about Group Think - maybe I should have brought up Berserk, but I’m not sure the class this semester would get the reference. ;) But yes, it definitely compares to real life - and it is frustrating because you want people to “see” a con for what it is in real life, and that just isn’t the case, usually. I feel you! And yes, we know that Guts is a hero and stands up to the Group Think…now we just have to see if anyone else follows suit, but I am with you as it being frustrating to the max! I honestly was ready for a little cheesy good fun after all of Griffith’s pompousness in Vol 34. I love the Lovecraftian nature of the “ship” and the “tentacles” too! And Cthulhu – yessss, somewhat like an octopus, but more “monstrous” as well - that’s a great comparison! Thanks for the manga/book info, too! Isma is a great addition to the story right now - but yeah, after the debacle of failed trust that Sonia gave me, I was instantly apprehensive of her in this volume. But I’m glad she’s actually a really fun character! That’s really neat about the ammonite! And that’s really cool that Texas has actual fossil parks - I had no idea! That’s so cool!! I wish that we had something like that in the midwest where I’m at, but it’s neat that there are places in the south and southwest giving us relics like that! One thing I do admire Miura for is his detail in designing the demons and monsters - you can tell he really likes drawing different fish and creatures with exaggerated features to form the monsters and it’s really well done. I’m a big fan of sea creatures in general, so seeing these come alive on the page is so interesting and fun to see! Thank you for the video link as well! Once we meet those other “flavors of Guts,” you’ll have to come back to that to tell me! I definitely can see how many grew up with this manga and it became part of their identity or they identify with it to a heightened degree. I definitely will look forward to getting into the survey answers once I’m completely caught up - for now, I’m keeping my distance so it doesn’t shade my perception of the story as I go in blind. I will say, you’re one of the few that have openly noted how it’s not perfect – most defend Miura to the high heavens and I’ve just had to stop reading those comments because any time I critique, I’m instantly shot down or there’s a level of “gatekeeping,” as if critiquing a mangaka’s choices makes one “unworthy” to be a part of the fandom - I digress, anyway, I’m glad you’ve been very respectful and honest, and I can see from your answers why this manga means so much to you! And I appreciate that perspective being told! Thanks so much for the comment and kind words! And YES! TALLY HO TO VOLUME 36! I can say that since Volume 35, I’ve been having a *lot* of fun with the manga, and I can’t wait to show you my reactions for the rest of September! 😀

I just want to show you some of our fossil parks! Here are some links: https://lakeralphhall.com/benefits/ladonia-fossil-park/ https://www.mineralwellsfossilpark.com And I just love going to this little town! Glen Rose! https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/dinosaur-valley the funny thing about Glen Rose is along with the dinosaur footprints, the young earth creationists have their own museum across the road! I kinda want to go just to see what craziness they came up with to explain the fossils….. Also, don’t sell your state short! Illinois is the home of the Tully Monster! In fact, it’s the state fossil! https://youtu.be/FI_XNfQau1U?si=nYbbNah9nsE3r1q6

Whaaaaaaat - now I need to find a Tully Monster plush! XD That is so cool! Thank you for sharing all of these links! I love learning about this and who knew Texas had all these cool parks and FOSSILS! I feel like I'm playing Pokemon from 1995 again and finding a fossil! XD Or watching Jurassic Park 1993 again! I love that! This is really cool - maybe one day I'll get to go to one! Thank you for the links and this info! ^^
