I don't like to have anything between me and my models, but sometimes a frame, a glass or a mirror, can add interest to the photo, and it is worth exploring to avoid boredom.
This is a good example where the disturbing element in the foreground in making the composition more interesting/dynamic and is not damaging the quality of the image beyond a tolerable threshold.
If you check the eyes of Mary, they are still plenty sharp and the sparkle of light in each one keeps them alive.
I leave to you the identification of further point of interest in the picture...
