Sorry for the many text posts recently hhhhhh didn't mean to spam you;;;

Anyways, my trusty laptop is starting to slowly die, and before it completely gives up on me I wanted to see what options I have for a replacement! I know basically nothing about laptops (my current one was a gift, all I know is it's a HP x,D) so any suggestions as to which kind of laptop I should be getting would be really, really appreciated ;w;

Right now my budget is around €500 at most, as I don't want to touch my rent savings, it's probably not a great budget but I can't really do more TwT I don't need a super powerful laptop anyways, just one that can let me draw smoothly (I'm no gamer or anything),at most I'd want to do some video editing or animation in the future but that's it!

So yeah, if any of you have suggestions about a reliable laptop within that budget I'm all ears! Thanks a bunch in advance, you're saving me ♥♥♥

(will delete this post soon so it doesn't clutter my patreon page x,D)

I can certainly dig around for you! :D I just need to know which programs art wise you plan to run, and if you plan to stream while using them. (These so I can find one based on what I'm looking for in CPU/RAM capabilities.

I've got an Lenovo Ideapad (C340) a while ago that I'm fairly happy with. Sure, it's not a powerhouse like my main PC but it does its job, is convertible, FHD, and has a fairly decent Touchscreen that also allows decent drawing if you get an according pen separately.

Aaaah, thank you so much!! You're so kind TwT I mainly use Paint Tool SAI, but plan to finally put to use CLIP STUDIO and Photoshop (CC 2017) xD And yep, I stream, but only with SAI! For other programs mmmhh, I think I can handle the animation with PS and Clip studio, so no additional stuff, as for video editing I think I have FIlmora, need to dig that ahah;;; Thanks in advance!! ;o; ♥

Thanks a lot for the suggestion! I'll have to look more into that, I told myself I'd never get a Lenovo again (me and my bro had bad experiences, it seems they all have fan/overheating issues TvT;;; ) but if it works well for you it might be worth considering c: Thanks a bunch! ♥

I hope you don't mind but I'll be sending a message via patreon real quick that gives some info and suggestions for a few <3

Haven't gotten this one to get really hot, but I also didn't out right torture test it. From my experience most laptops have a bit of heating issues though. Putting the morality issues with Intel aside, nowadays AMD has more efficient stuff anyway, so you'd likely be off best with a Ryzen, Lenovo or not. Whatever you pick, hope it works out for you.

Idk if maybe it was an issue with past models, but for the ones me and my brother had everyone online complained about the fan issues, it's seemingly something very common with those....but then again, maybe it's just older models! I'm definitely considering this as it seems a nice one, it's a bit over my budget (around €600-700), but with a bit of extra work I should be able to afford it c,: Thanks again for the help!

XorUnison

Yeah, that's a lot more than the relatively measly 370€ I paid (Ryzen3/4GB RAM/128GB SSD). Then again there are multiple C340 models, with different CPU/RAM/SSD ranging from... 530€ to an utterly ridiculous 1500€ (with Intel price gouger CPU, figures). Huh. Maybe the pandemic has pushed those prices up.

hello again! sorry for the bother, I'm just about to finally get the laptop, and while looking at the lenovo c340 I got suggested by google the LENOVO IDEAPAD 3 15ADA05 which is one sale at €500, and was wondering if you could please help me picking what would be best? ;w; I was looking around and they seem to have the same ram (8gb), but the ideapad 3 has a bigger screen and more ssd (512, basically double), but it doesn't seem to be convertible, which tbh I was kinda excited to try x,D Idk nothing about specs (like, I don't even know if the ssd size is a big deal or what) so if you could give me your opinion one last time I'd be super grateful! Thanks a lot! ;w;

512GB SSD is probably pretty extrem for your requirements, and while more space makes, around a few corners, for a bit more lifetime and speed with SSDs, you're unlikely to ever notice anything like that unless you're either creating humongous files, or are downloading many large programs or games. 8GB of RAM is good, but 4GB would be a bit short, with drawing you might strain resources a bit otherwise. The main thing I'm worried about is that the IDEAPAD 3 15ADA05 looks to have no touchscreen at all, so you'd have to make up for that with an external graphics tablet. That's... a bad deal compared to what I got, but I also don't know if you can get any better.

Thank you so much, you're helping me a lot you have no idea! ;w; I see, so the SSD wouldn't mind much if I only drawed with it, but if in the future I really wanna get more in animation and stuff then more would help, right? I've always used "regular" laptops with an external drawing tablet tbh, so that doesn't really worry me much, I was curious about how it'd be to draw on the screen that's all xD Plus I saw to get the lenovo pen it'd be another €100, so I'd honestly pick the C340 only if it performed better than the Ideapad! Thanks again for helping me ♥

Thanks a lot for your input Ali! (and for supporting me here aaaah, I'm so flattered ;A; ) I'll be honest, both my and my bro had bad experiences with lenovo laptops in the past (due to fan/overheating issues that seemed to be common with the brand), but maybe we just picked the wrong models x,D Many people are suggesting a lenovo so I'll probably give that a try! Thank you! ^^

You're welcome. I've checked out the official Lenovo page, and from there you could get a decent pen (same model I have) for 50€ which... I mean it's not 100, but it's still more than what mine cost and it's not peanuts for sure. From the prices I see that's still in total paying more than 100€+ for the same performance, so if you have a drawing tablet, it's going to last a while, and you're comfortable with it... and the prices swinging the way they do, you might be better off going with a "regular" laptop like the one you mentioned. And well, if you create lots of big files, I guess so, but 512GB is really a lot of bulk. For reference, I've created animated fractals for a few years and have just about reached 40GB, which includes quite a bit of overhead as most of those animations are present on my drive both as individual frames and finished videos. In comparison I have multiple games clocking in at 40GB each or even more, so those chew through a couple hundred GB very quickly. Still, depending on your work process and resolution you also might be able to produce a lot more bulk much faster. Particularly if you throw out your art at 4K or even higher resolutions, which I would strongly recommend, since that's excessively easy nowadays. (This is a bit offtopic, but long story short there's an AI algorithm called waifu2x which does an insanely good job of upscaling all sorts of things, but specifically anime art which... the name makes kinda obvious. And I mean it's so good it can turn a 1000x1000 picture into a 3000x3000 picture and the result in most cases looks about as good as if it was drawn at that size. Honestly in my opinion a tool artists should use liberally as it gets a lot more out of the pictures with basically no extra effort. Sometimes when I found some art I wanted to appreciate on my 4K screen, without those pesky pixels being visible, I just dropped it into waifu2x [snwoshell GUI], waited 10 seconds, and was able to do just that.) Ahem, back to harddrives. If you intend to bother with 4K animations or lots of animations in general then initially targeting a 512GB drive might be a prudent idea. (Although putting together 4K animations might be a bit straining for a laptop... I can't tell how feasible or not that is, again depends on the process I guess.) More relevant would be to spend a little more money at some point to backup your most important files, although you could also possibly use your old Laptop drive for that.

no problem at all <3 I hope you find something that works well for you! I do have to say i had to fix my laptop once for a fan issue but the fault was my own. I left it on and open 24/7
