Shikamaru explained in the end there that he ran out of Chakra. His strategy was able to capture her with his Shadow Possession, but he didn't have a move to kill, incapacitate, or force her to submit... so he gave up, LOL. The Shikamaru Showcase Episode!

I super agree with Steph's sentiment that the Third Hokage caving to the Hidden Cloud Village was a bozo move... but I do understand why the Third caved. The death of one (talented, selfless) ninja vs. having to restart a war with another village. It's one of those heartless decisions that you hate, but it makes sense. At this point, we don't know exactly how strong the Hidden Cloud are, presumably they're of similar strength to Konoha, since they're one of the Five Great Nations. A LOT of ninja would've died if they went back to war.

LMAOO Shika was awesome this episode, just like Neji was awesome in his episode. Shikamaru is a tactician he has his reasons for giving up. A smart General knows when to withdraw. Also, Temari was dope as well, she's a genius in her own right.

I'm pretty sure that's the reason, he gave up because he was close to out of Chakra and he knows after his jutsu broke he would have lost anyway.

I get you think the third was kind lame for accepting lighting village proposal but you do know who is is in the lighting village right. I don't think the leaf village wants smok lol

nah the third hokage did the right thing because starting a war over one ninja would not only deplete their military power but also innocent villagers would suffer as well. He has to think about the whole village not just one person. And a war could leave them in a weakened state for future enemies to take advantage of.

Yeah it’s like a mix he probably could have made her hurt her self and won but like he said in the beginning he didn’t want to hurt her… he’s also lazy and probably didn’t want to fight anymore anyway because it would be exhausting so he gave up

Not to spoil, but Leaf would've gotten folded like a lawn chair by Lightning village if they engaged in a war lol. Raikage, Bee, etc etc. Sure, Hiruzen is strong, but I doubt Jiraiya/Orochimaru help the village
