We have to remember back then, the church were in power fully and were not separated from the state much like today this has been mainly abolished and only the state has power in places like USA/Canada/UK/France etc just out of top 4. So basically, the church had it's own army and he was basically the commander of the church. He was lord Bishop so he was above the other bishops that we normally saw. Their really just crusaders like the Roman crusades were. The Separation of Church and State only started to happen actually just after the American and French Revolution that happen basically within the same years in the 18th century.

An Answer to the "your grace" thing. In old England(and to this day), Dukes can be called your grace. Then on the Holy side you have Archbishop called "your grace". Bishops are suppose to be called "Your Excellency" or "My Lord." So maybe he's a Duke or Prince idk . 🤷
