Man, I'm so happy you got back to this so soon. I was bracing myself for the expected weeks wait. Thank you. The story must be getting to you. As far as Netflix goes, they don't translate the song lyrics and their other subs are a little different than Viki, not really worse, but different translations. They seem to use more American colloquialisms than Viki which I find funny, but that's just me.

I'm not sure, but I think that when Ma Go Shin said that the flowers will fall when she feels afraid, she meant that the flowers will start to fall once she cares enough for another person (Gu Chan Seong) to fear for them. The process of the tree blooming is sort of the humanization of Man Wol, so I think the point is that she's supposed to go from not caring about anyone and being cold (the "dead" tree) to caring about someone and opening her heart (the blooming tree) to becoming vulnerable enough to open herself up to getting hurt again (when the blossoms fall), and then she has "atoned". I don't think it's literally that petals fall every time she's afraid, I think it's that she cares about Gu Chan Seong enough to fear for him, so she is gradually becoming vulnerable and "human" again.
