Animated illustration: process (Patreon)

Hi y'all! A while ago on Twitter I mentioned wanting to make an animated version of this piece from a year or two back. on a whim I decided to go through with it! This was all done in rough animator for ipad and it was a really good skill exercise! I really recommend doing short stuff like this to get a feel for animation
Btw, This was all animated on 4s (8fps)
First, The sketch:
This part is actually the fastest if you know what you're doing, doesn't have to be exact, just a way to get out the basic motions, layers and timing
Next are the lines:
This stage can go relatively fast or take the most amount of time, in an industry setting this would be called "clean up".
you have to make sure your shapes keep a consistent volume and your lines are straight and confident
You also have to make sure you take your layers and coloring stage into consideration, coloring can be a pain when your lines are a mess
After that it's time for color:
This part can be the funnest AND the most tedious, noticing mistakes you may have left in at this point can be a headache but it's fun getting to see your artwork come to life
It's also important to note that this stage is why the cleanup stage is so important, changes in volume and wobbly lines become much more obvious once color is added
After that comes compositing which basically includes any extra details or effects you want to add, I'm currently at this stage and not sure when I'll be done but thinking about adding some sort of filter:
