In this episode of Fancy Movie Time with Brian and A.J., the Fancy Lads grab their cigarettes and smoke out of the sunroof of a red Saab as they cover Ryusuke Hamaguchi's 2021 Chekhov/Murakami mashup: Drive My Car. Does the film's haunting portrayal of grief and its repercussions make it a Fancy Feast? Or does its slow, methodical pace and flat line deliveries make it a Failure to Fancy? One thing's for sure: you can't have two basses in a barbershop quartet.

Oh fuck yes, this is one of my favorite movies. So curious what y'all think.

I would love hearing your takes on all the economical craft of theaters and writing that must have gone into making hundreds of beavers.

After hearing the first bit of the discussion, I was intrigued enough that I decided to watch the movie and just finished it right now. It is like dark, slings, and arrows in a way. As it got darker and darker I kept thinking this is the craziest movie I’ve ever seen that was this chill and silent. But it ends on a weirdly, hopeful note. I think that speech from the end of Vanya helps. I kept thinking how much weirder it would be if I didn’t know Vanya , and also how weird it would be if I were rehearsing a play and one of the actors just randomly got arrested in the middle of it. What a unique movie that I won’t forget for a very long time! Now on to the rest of the podcast discussion because I need to process this! Thanks for the brain fodder
