This is why the manga is so much better pace and doesnt cut off at random times, the coby scene in episode 477 was completely added on. In the manga white beard got hit by Akainu and then it goes straight to Luffy recieving the hormone boost. Tension was not cut at all like in the anime.

The scene where the Whitebeard NPCs are destroying the Pacifistas is crazy. It shows that the cannon fodder in the New World are stronger than the current Straw Hats. P.S. Your take on Garp is something I haven't heard expressed that way before. It is really refreshing because I don't think I could have articulated it like that.

No, Whitebeard is very proficient at using Haki. However he was old and ill, if he used it it may have tired him out too quickly. And also this was during a period of time where Haki had not been explored properly in the series, so it may have just slipped Oda's mind.
