One sad little detail: Rebecca says she’s embarrassed, and then gets emotional saying ‘I just feel like I inconvenienced a lot of people’. It’s what her mom said in episode one on the phone talking about her first ‘attempt’. She said ‘you didn’t even break the skin and you inconvenienced a LOT of people’. Ouch!

She's not Bi-Polar, but people with her disorder get misdiagnosed that at first, a lot.

Unfortunately it is true that Borderline Personality Disorder is so stigmatized that there are therapist and psychiatrist that rather not deal with it. Could be that because it's a Personality Disorder, it's more difficult to treat because you have to change, essentially who you are, and patients or people with this disorder may be resistant.

I will say that I was diagnosed with this (although I am going to get reevaluated soon because it's been a while, and things are a little different now). But me, and with other people I know that were diagnosed with this, you do tend to feel a certain way. For me I was happy because I finally felt that I could be helped, and it is also very scary. With other people I know they just cried all day when they found out. I kind of see it as, nothing changed. You have always been this way, and a new diagnosis doesn't change who you are. So, yeah, it was mostly positive for me. The scary part though comes from when the psychiatrist says you don't really need meds, because it's not a chemical imbalance. It's about relearning how to cope and respond to things. You can have other disorders as well as this. I have symptoms of other disorders, but the psychiatrist said that it is all mostly still from the Borderline. So, I take anxiety meds, and meds for insomnia, and anti-depressants. And yes, it's true that all the people I know with this disorder have been slut shamed by peers and doctors.

just a slide note on the diagnosis: Rebecca gets diagnosed with *Borderline* personality disorder, not *Multiple* personality disorder. I believe those are quite different. I did research BPD quite a bit while watching it for the first time because I had someone in my life who shared a lot of Rebecca's symptoms. it is a very tricky condition, I think, and people often do not even realise that they have a disease. they are just annoyed that other people seem to be different than them and do not get them.
