And before jumping back to heavy duties tomorrow, let's talk about the flower field shot and how I used both Cinema4D and Houdini to overcome (again) c4d's limitations when working with splines.

We do not have to master Houdini as art directors/designers. It is sufficient to understand basics in my opinion though, cause it really saves the day in so many occasions.

Cheers,
T.

Nice!

Jordan Taylor

Love that you are giving a peek into Houndini's world as well

Johnny Kangasniemi

Super nice! How do you bring back the simulation to C4D for render, or did you render in Houdini? Also, how did you change out the splines for the carnations?

motionpunk

I brought the splines as Alembic and continued in C4D. I will show everything on the next tut. In general though, if i need the spline attributes i render in Houdini. Same with grains, I will showcase these on next tuts, as c4d is not capable of reading many attributes coming out of the exports.

Nejc Polovsak

yes buddy, keep that houdini momentum going :)

Brandon Smith

I personally love the houdini stuff you are doing! Thanks!

The excitement about C4D at 1:24 just killed me;-)

Hi, are the drafts of these lessons available for download?

Joshua

Thanks for this breakdown, what if you points are scattered on a mountain and you want to select the root point of the line? Do you know how you would achieve this? Thanks!

Joshua

I guess maybe just deform the grid after the fact instead ?

motionpunk

You can use either this mountain as a falloff for your group or use for each loop for the lines (see end of the tutorial)

Joshua

ahhh yes was just going to reply to say got to that part! Thanks man

Luke

Which part shows the Hand in the Sand tutorial? I can't find it

Luke

Ah ok, in the intro in part A you said you were going to show us in houdini

motionpunk

Yeap sorry for that haha its always my intention to do houdini stuff and then client work piles up and this stays on the back seat. But I will do vellum grain tutorials soon!

Christian Davies

Dumb question. How do you add a segment? Can't find it anywhere

motionpunk

yeah haha its hidden in the scene nodes! With 1-2 latest c4d versions with shift+c you can search on nodes too. With previous versions you have to do it manually
