MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYBODY!!! I hope you're all having a wonderful time, got some amazing gifts and spending time with your loved ones. It's been an insane time throughout December, and even scary with that Omicron variant on the rise, but at least it's all paying off now where we can have a little moment of joy. Even with me, this whole week got turned upside down for me, but I did what I can in order to make things work...at least to the most of my ability. Anyways, I still got a job to do and I'll give you a quick rundown of my week before you get back to your festivities.
- Released my review of Rumble: I honestly didn't really know what to expect with this movie. I was honestly never excited for this after seeing the trailers portraying it as another bland sports movie. And, as it turns out...it kind of is, at least with the plot that's almost a copy/paste of Space Jam: A New Legacy, but with monster wrestling. However, I was surprised to find myself enjoying it more than I did. For the things that I do like, I actually really enjoyed, especially with the animation, the voice acting is pretty top notch and the actors were the ones who really made the most with their respective characters and I will say that this did make the most with its monster wrestling concept. I can actually see this work as a Nickelodeon series where they play more with that idea and show us even more creative monsters to fight with. It's definitely far from the best animated film of the year, but for what it did, it's not too bad of a job and there are parts that I really did like, so a decent effort overall.
- Released the History of Hoodwinked: While this may not necessarily be a holiday-themed video, this is like my holiday gift to you all. I always knew that Hoodwinked was such a unique feature where it's a case that the writing is much stronger than its visuals, but the story behind it was quite fascinating to look at where this seems like the Hollywood dream come true for a group of small filmmakers trying to make the most out of an impossibly low budget to produce a one-of-a-kind animated film. What's even more shocking is that this is honestly the most competent that I've seen Harvey Weinstein when it comes to researching these stories. Maybe not much in the sequel, but for the first, he let the creators mostly do what needed to be done. So, of course the one where he was the most tame was the one that he found the most success with. It was a really fun video to work on and I hope people will have fun watching it and learn one heck of an underdog story.
- Currently NOT reviewing Sing 2, but did some other work: Let me tell you how my week was a bit more chaotic. 2 days before the movie's released, the government of Quebec announced that they are shutting down many non-essential places due to the rising numbers of COVID cases, including bars, spas, gyms, casinos, and yes, that also includes cinemas. This ultimately means that there is no access for me to go and watch Sing 2...like, at all (if you think that's bad, imagine being a Spider-Man fan from Quebec who hasn't seen No Way Home on its opening weekend). So this REALLY sucks. The one last movie I needed to review by the end of the year and I can't even do my job. Sadly, the best I can do in the meantime is wait until either the restrictions are lifted or wait 45 days until Universal releases it on streaming and digital. So, instead of reviewing the last animated film of the year, I only did some small jobs here and there, including gathering material for upcoming reviews, setting up the writing and preparing for some videos that are coming in the near future. That and I was equally busy with holiday duties like shopping, wrapping presents and just getting ready for the big day. I do wish for some miracle to happen and I can have the movie sooner than expected, but this is what I mean by trying to make the most with what I have.
And that is it for this week and that should officially mark as the final Update Blog of 2021. Thank you all so much for this awesome year and thank you for the great support you've been giving me this whole year.
