I spent around a year to just take a break and focus on other and smaller projects to work on. However, as we're at the point that we're use to our new year in 2022, I think it's time that I return to my beloved series. I've done enough reviews for now and it's time to bring back the Lookback.

- Released my review of Turning Red: As it is currently the most talked about animated feature, it was inevitable that I put in my thoughts onto this picture and I can honestly say that I really did enjoy this one. I don't think this is one of Pixar's best, since it doesn't have as much originality as some of the other films from the studio, but that doesn't change how it is still great in itself. One thing that really does stand out to me is how this is Pixar's funniest movie. The jokes are really effective and the animation with the way it really plays with the expressions and the anime-style really adds a lot to the enjoyability of it. Not to mention that it does have a strong message about adapting to change and be who YOU want to be. Yes, the latter does get a lot of complaints from parents that lean to the right, but there is a term for parents who don't let their children express their true selves, and that's "bad parenting". Anyways, really did enjoy this one and I'd say it's on par with last year's Luca. Could it have been better? Yea, but I admire how Pixar left their comfort zone to try something new and turn out something that is really fun.

- Finishing up the next batch of AniMat's Classic Reviews: While I had several other duties to work on throughout the week, one thing I did was completing the work I needed to do on the upcoming ACRs. This week, I didn't have a lot to take care of, but I did do a decent amount of editing and making all the revisions needed to make sure it's all good. The one I just finished will be a more straightforward and simple review by my standards, but considering the subject matter, I believe this will be one that many will get excited for. Similar to A Goofy Movie, this is another fan-favorite that has often been requested over the years. Maybe I've already said this in the last blog, but this is just to update that I got the next set of these reviews done.

- Starting the writing of Animation Lookback: The Muppets: It's almost been a year since I finished AL: WDAS+, but after finishing that whole batch of reviews, I decided that it was finally time to return to Animation Lookback and actually start the story of The Muppets. I'll admit that starting this was pretty tough, since this is going beyond the usual biography while looking into the production of each movie. In fact, while writing this week, I had to step back in order to map out how the series is going to go and  know what Muppet projects I'll be talking about. So far, I've covered the early beginnings and I'll soon begin getting into the major projects like Sesame Street and The Muppet Show. I"m not even sure yet how long these parts will be, but I can officially say that the next Animation Lookback has officially begun production!

So that was my week where I was busy in a few other places, but the important part is that this marks as the start of the return of Animation Lookback! It is tough to get the ball rolling with this, but once I get myself familiar and return to that historian mindset, I think this will turn out to be fun! So, until next time...

See ya later, dudes!

I’m glad that the week goes well for you Mat, and I’m happy to hear that you enjoy Turning Red. And oh boy, Animation Lookback is coming back baby, can’t wait to watch the history of The Muppets when it comes out in the future, I’m happy that the production has begun. Good luck with that Mat!

I might like Turning Red a little more then Luca. I don't know why, just clicked more with me.

I think we need to give this rising generation of diverse voices at Pixar benefit of the doubt that even if their initial efforts aren’t going to measure up to their predecessors, that shouldn’t deter them from thinking outside the box and crafting identities of their own. Of course, there are going to be a toxic minority of fans resistant to these changes. But under Pete Docter’s guidance, I know the future of Pixar is in capable hands.

At this point, I could care less what so-called Pixar fans think of the newer films in comparison to the films of Pixar’s Golden Era (1995 - 2010). They’ve already proven their toxicity anyways by their reactions to Turning Red.

I’m excited to see the upcoming Animation Lookback on the Muppets. As a Muppet fan, I know you’ll have lots of fun doing this Lookback.

Can’t wait for the upcoming Animation Lookback. I really appreciate the Muppets. Every time I watch the early stuff it is always so good. Like at the end of the original Muppet Movie, it makes me cry every time I watch it. I always have fun when watching The Great Muppet Capper, and I always always go back to the chase scene with Miss Piggy, in The Muppets Take Manhattan. I am now more curious about their history and can’t wait to find out more about them.

This all sounds exciting, Mat! Hopefully, during the next AL, I won’t have to spend US$5.00 on a Super Chat just to ask for Patreon help this time, right? LOL

For the record, though, I’m still trying to figure out what part was premiering when I asked that.
