Historical Moment for the Open-sourced AI community. (Patreon)

While Stability AI - The creator of Stable Diffusion is falling from grace and ruining their image, a new one rises from the ashes to carry the torch.

What Happened?:

Stability AI came out with Stable Diffusion 3, but with some licensing that ruined their image greatly and broke apart the community in some way(Not entirely but more like strengthen than weaken, more on that later)

Licensing requires $20 a month, for a certain amount of images to be only generated.

If the licensee does not pay, all trained/merged/derivative models and any models trained on images from any form of SD3 model have to be destroyed, and even customers have to destroy everything related to SD3.

If a person were to use the model to do illegal things, it's not the customer who is responsible, but the licensee who sold/provided the models.

These (I think there might be more) are not how the open-sourced community operates, and so multiple groups who make UI/provide services like civitAI and many others banned/ took SD3 off to not get into legal issues.

What's Next?:

This sparked outrage in the community, and so the Open Model Initiative (click this for the official announcement) was born in the aftermath.

I believe in open-source, and I was excited to eventually use SD3, but after all of this, I decided using SD3 would not be possible, unless they change it, then MAYBE(Big maybe) I might use it in the future.

But with the poor performance, censorship up the ass, and terrible licensing, new models have the potential to be truly open-sourced, so I will be sticking to SDXL longer and waiting for The Open Model Initiative to come out with their own model.

I look forward to the future of Open-Sourced Generative AI.

In the meantime, PurpleSmartAI is currently or very soon to train Pony v6.9 which will be what I will move to once released.

I will probably call my Gen version 2.5, halfway into Gen 3 which would be v7 of PonyXL.
I am also currently supporting Purplesmart through discord with their subscription, atm it's $5 a month, but I plan to pay a higher monthly price for them to continue developing these amazing models, It only makes sense if I'm making money from it.
