Hi

When I posted my previous image “Marge Simpson in the Sauna”, lots of people were accusing me or using AI. And the thing is… it’s true, I used AI, but as most of them think I did. Let me explain…

Just like any other artist, I have a ton of files and folders with references for items, animals, clothing, sexual positions, and tons of backgrounds.

I’m being 100% honest when I say that I don’t like drawing backgrounds (In fact I HATE it), so I’m been collecting backgrounds throughout the years, and that helps me make my work way easier, and as you may know, it’s pretty difficult finding a new background that wasn’t made by an AI these days. Well, sometimes when I need to make things easier for me and skip having to draw the background, I’d use a background image from my files or just one of those instead, but I assure you that I’ll be modifying, editing and changing myself so that it looks good (They’re usually a fucking mess).

Well in this case for  “Marge in the Sauna”, I had a really good reference pic, that showed a Sauna I really liked, so I started working  with it, fixing all kinds of imperfections and typical things that come with the use of AI, and I was also using it as an inspiration and to get an idea of how I wanted to draw Marge… so I ended up using that image with an AI and ended up using it as reference, but that’s it. This is the Image I used.

Since I liked the style of the image, I decided to try painting with the watercolor brushes, ones I don’t typically use nor fit my style, I’m not so good with them. But I really liked what came out of it, so I shared it with you guys. What’s the problem here? That the final result ended up looking like any other AI generated image, and if you use any AI detecting programs, they’ll tell you that since the background was an AI generated image, the whole pic would also be AI generated (I’ve tried using those AI detectors using my very own pics, completely made by me, and according to them they could be 15% AI)

Let’s make one thing clear… I’m not apologizing for anything in particular, this is not an apology… I’m just trying to explain and clarify what happened. For some people, using AI in any kind of situation is something of a blasphemy… who are they kidding? The AIs are here to stay and we can either adapt and update or die and disappear. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not Pro-Ais when it comes to having them do all the work, and I’m definitely against anyone calling themselves an “artist” when they’re just using an AI. But I do think that there’s a future for them as tools that can be used to make our jobs easier, and at some point… as material that can be used by artists as bases for a new work of art.

And for all of those that didn’t believe a single word of what I just said, here’s a new image I made with the same style as “Marge in the Sauna” along with a one-minute video with the whole process while I was making it. I hope this is enough to make things clear and to let you guys know my point of view. And if you’re one of those angry internet users that thinks I’m a shitty artist by using an AI without even knowing the context of it all…

Here's a little kiss for you, and I love you.

Current stage of AI is still a tool and like any tool, it just comes down to how you use it. If using AI in your art can make your life easier and speed up the process, then I say go for it. I am sorry there are levels of harassment that makes you need to explain yourself like this, but do not be discouraged from exploring new methods and keeping up with technology.

Usar la IA como referencia no es mala, yo hago lo mismo

Heck, apparently even the Spiderverse movies used AI to assist with certain things. Personally, I don't mind when AI is used in that way. And it's a great piece you made there again.
