This is the free set of this months 'Into The Wilds' maps. The Into the Wilds maps are intended to be simpler & more generic than my regular sets and are perfect to drop in for random encounters when on the road or for when the party takes an unexpected turn and you want to be prepared. They are also completely free! Patrons get access to high resolution versions and extra variants.

  • Patrons can access the complete bundle HERE which includes higher resolution, un-watermarked files and additional map variants such as Storm, Clean, & Tile.

  • Adventurer Tier Patrons and above can vote for next months Into the Wilds theme HERE

This months Into the Wilds theme is Plane of Air as voted for by Adventurer tier Patrons.

  • Endless Blue - The plane of air is an endless blue abyss, stretching infinitely in every direction. There is no gravity except what its inhabitants imagine, no water or land other than what has been bought here or created by arcane means, and yet somehow there are super cool epic looking clouds all over the place? Apparently the water cycle does its own thing here.

  • Water Sphere - The origins of these aquatic spheres are unknown, and when left alone they simply float along gently on the breeze. The lack of gravitational force means they have formed an almost perfect spherical shape. As you approach this one however, it starts roiling internally, spray flying off as the globule spins faster and faster.

  • Twister - Vortexes occasionally form in locations where different air currents meet. Occasionally these can become powerful, violent twisters pulling in anything or anyone nearby. If you are unfortunate to be trapped in the centre you had better start praying it ends as quickly as it started, the centrifugal forces are strong enough to pull a person apart.

  • Earth Mote - These disconnected islands of land floating in the abyss can provide much needed respite for anyone or anything needing to take a rest from flying. Some of them nearer the large settlements have been mapped, but there are many scattered throughout the infinite blue with hidden secrets. Fortunately they can usually be seen from far away due to the lack of haze.

Thank you for these... one of my players has a high level Air Elementalist, these maps will definitely be used.

Really good work as always. Maybe one day you will be the first creator that I've seen that will be brave enough to attempt the plane of water? Wink ;)

I have some maps in my 'High Seas 01' set that would work for Plane of Water - https://www.tomcartos.com/into-the-wilds-oceans

Yea those are good but across all creators there are really only a small handful of usable maps. And far less that were actually made with the plane of water in mind when they were made. But I wonder if that’s just because underwater scenes are more difficult. It would be cool to see someone really take some creative leaps. But anyways you’re stuff is awesome, and I hope you have fun with whatever projects you have coming up

tomcartos

If you have suggestions for more underwater scenes, I'd be happy to tackle them in the future!

David Faunce

Sure, some ideas could be: a map for edge of the City of Glass (an entrance), an underwater glacier/glacier dungeon, the citadel of 10,000 pearls (a city for Marids, so like a water genie capital city streets or the palace), water vortexes or underwater currents (like in finding Nemo lol), giant jellyfish fields or maybe a map on top of giant underwater creatures, underwater mechanical manta ray machine, a bunch of possible locations for portals to all the different planes, maps that give a feel for the homes of different types of species (tritons, kuatoa, sahuagin, etc.), Lost wrecks, anything interesting location that is just free floating in water (most people make maps with a sea bottom when there really isn’t one in sight), a underwater sea hag lair, an underwater wizard tower themed around hydromancy, a underwater layer of the Abyss (Layer 89 of the Abyss, Dagons lair “the shadow sea”), kraken encounter, dragon turtle encounter, megalodon encounter, underwater arena (fights, sea horse racing, etc.)

David Faunce

Sorry for the barrage but that list could have gone on forever lol. Just wanted to show how many ideas are possible. If none come from it all good. I appreciate you taking a moment to think hear me out
