Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to episode 20 of The Apothecary Diaries! WHOA!!!!!! Dang you guys, I was quick to pick up on what they were putting down here which I'm proud of, but I was SO SLOW on the fact that the coffin scene in the opening was such a massive spoiler this whole time hahaha!!! Suirei is definitely up to a grandiose scheme, one that even Maomao respects the heck out of with her evil laugh haha :P But why?! This one was really fun, exciting and honestly a little eerie! Can't wait to find out more! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

This episode has given us a lot of answers that we've been building up over the course of the story. It is now officially confirmed that Jinshi is not a eunuch. And he's much younger than you'd expect him to be. He's only a year older than Maomao. Which also explains his childish behavior sometimes. I'm pleased to see that you were just as shocked as me when we found out that Gaoshun is not only a father, but also a grandfather. He's around 40 years old and I would never have thought of him as a grandpa. I already suspected a bit that Basen could be his son because Maomao often mentioned that Basen has similarities with Gaoshun and I somehow got suspicious. The whole thing with Suirei was already teased in episode 18. And in the opening, we also saw someone rise and the flowers that Suirei used to mix the revival drink. What exactly is really behind the attack still remains unknown. It won't be resolved any time soon. I know that because I've read the light novel, or at least I'm much further along than the manga. And it remains exciting to see how things will continue with Suirei. Maomao's reaction when she realized that someone was smarter than she, was really amusing to see. It was very sweet to see that Jinshi really cares about her a lot. He let her sleep in his bed, always made sure she got new bandages and her leg was stitched up. These are the little things he does for her that I don't think she really notices, but are probably very important to him. The fact that Jinshi knows what his one birth is all about is really very sad, because if you put yourself in his shoes, it's probably really difficult to grow up without proper parental love. He did have Gaoshun, Basen and Suiren, the older lady who always looks after him. But I don't think he really experienced much love from the emperor. And he was never allowed to get close to Ah-Duo. Otherwise the whole thing would be exposed. Nevertheless, I don't think the emperor is necessarily a bad person. We saw in the episode that he has a good relationship with Gyokuyou and also treats his daughter lovingly. Now that I think about it, all the children the emperor has with the other concubines are Jinshi's half-siblings. That's kind of weird. Next episode we will see a very amusing story of Lihaku trying to save the love of his life from being sold. Get ready for a very amusing episode.

Hi Hime :) I warned that the 19th was going to make you suffer and seeing Maomao being hit and then injured like that is not fun... Fortunately, she she is a tough kitty cat. But to continue on this scene, you understood Lakan's expression, he is not at all happy with what happened to her. He rarely expresses his true feelings and you will understand why later, but yes he cares about Maomao, he would not have tried to buy her for 10 years if it was not the case. To continue on Lakan and what clears him of his involvement in some way, as explained, with the death of the metalworker and the disappearance of his secret alloy, no one could have traced his involvement in this incident. But since he put Maomao on this trail, the secret of this alloy was not lost and several people are now aware of it, so the implication could be traced and the culprit can perhaps be identified. In a way, he helped in this matter (in addition to helping Maomao enter the temple). As has been said more than once, don't trust appearances. For the second, besides the revelation that Suiren was involved and her plan to escape justice, I suspected that seeing Maomao in "Machiavellian laughter" mode would cheer you up a bit after the events of the previous episode. I also knew that the revelation of the relationship between Gaoshun and Basen would make you react. I didn't want to say too much, but the fact that during the episode about the metalworker's sons, Maomao says that Basen reminds her of Gaoshun and that I told you about it in my comment, was there to put you on the track hehe. It's not really a spoiler, but yes a season 2 is indeed announced, it is announced at the very end of this season.

A couple of tidbits before I get going: Suirei is the court lady. Suiren, which is one letter difference, is the old lady who works for Jinshi. Also, Season 2 was confirmed very shortly after Season 1 wrapped, I believe it’s due to come out in Winter 2025’s season window. Maomao does a pretty good job recapping all the little details, but even she didn’t see the clue about the resurrection medicine. To be honest, I believe this is similar to the tactic that fails at the end of Romeo and Juliet, which you should probably have an awareness of. The real question of course, is who was Suirei really working for? Maomao’s evil laugh ruptured her wound - it’s hard to cackle that maniacally for long periods of time. Remember when Maomao noticed earlier somehow Basen resembled Gaoshun? That clicked didn’t it? And we finally got confirmation Jinshi is not a eunuch. But what, exactly, is he? All these questions and more, and you still haven’t heard from a key individual and their side of an ongoing story either… Mystery/suspense genre. You gotta say it or forget hold your peace if you were right. 😁

These episodes were interesting. Wow so both Jinshi and Gaoshun!! Interesting. Congrats to Gyou. She must be worn out. The emperor doesn’t find her appealing in a way, isn’t going anywhere near Lishu, idk about Lihua. She’s probably overworked as well. Man the episodes this week were awesome. They had me at the edge of my seat.

OMG I know right?! Like I had my suspicions about Jinshi but Gaoshun was a shock. Yeah I'm happy for our girl!! It seemed like maybe he was giving Lihua more attention at one point, but it's hard to say...I know they said Gyoukuyou was his favorite and all. OMG right?! Like this show has got us hooked!!!!!!!

kamenriderhime

OHHHH ok thank you, so technically I had *a* name right, just not the name I needed haha. YES!!! Can't wait for s2!! That's true, it does bear some similarity to Romeo and Juliet! I'm not sure who she's working for or if she's in business for herself, but I'm curious. The cackle though hahah!! Yeah I mean, I had my doubts about Jinshi, but I guess he's just taking something to "suppress" everything south of the border. OMG wait who's the key individual?! Nevermind, I'll find out when I get there!!! Ahhhh I can't wait to see!!!

kamenriderhime

Hi Spadeas! :) You weren't kidding! Good thing she's got 9 lives apparently! I'm glad I read that right, despite everything else about him, he truly seems to care for Maomao. That's a good point too, he was the one who kinda put Maomao on the trail right. HAHAHA the laugh was SO iconic! OMG!!! I can't believe that's his son!! Ohhhhhhh I do remember that now, wow!! They totally hinted at it huh! YAY!!!! I can't wait for s2!!!

kamenriderhime

I'm so glad we got confirmation! I think I knew already that he's younger, but yeah, this helps things add up a bit more! OMG what a shock about Gaoshun right!!! Dang!! He's young for a grandpa!! It totally went over my head when Maomao said that about Basen lol. Omg there were so many hints with Suirei, I totally missed them! I love Maomao's reaction too haha! I know, Jinshi is always doing sweet things like that! OMG I know, Jinshi knows everything, and his childhood couldn't have been easy! They constantly had to cover it all so I'm sure he didn't get much love like you said. Yeah I don't think the emperor is necessarily a bad person based on that, because he was trying to protect him and all....but still, it's sad that Jinshi couldn't get that same kind of love! OMG yes, they're totally siblings, that's so crazy!!! OMG YES!! I was hoping we'd get a Lihaku-centric one haha!!
