Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to episode 22 of The Apothecary Diaries! WOW!! Maomao showed some real determination here!! Just how is she hoping to settle the score with Lakan?! Is this one big game between the two of them to get each other's attention?! And the way Lakan sees the world, with the exception of Maomao, is REALLY interesting! I also learned a lot about dyeing flowers in this one haha. Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

Hi Hime :) The emojis I used were : 💪👀 & 🔵🌹 Maomao looking at the muscle of Lihaku and the blue roses of course. We could already see Lihaku showing his body in the opening, now you know why and well, we're not going to lie, this scene was clearly vital for the story huh ^^. But yes, his love with Pairin and his personality make him someone adorable and with a real good heart. It was mostly Meimei and Maomao that I was talking about, but it's true that Pairin also has a certain relationship with Maomao. As for Meimei, you'll know more next week. The manicure is part of Maomao's plan, she gave everyone a flashier color, to remind and confuse Lakan who remembers the color of Maomao's mother's nails, the same color she wears at the very end. The way Lakan sees the world, will have its explanation in the next episodes and now that she confronts him, you suspect that you will have your answers about what happened between Lakan and Maomao's mother. Just a little warning in advance, remember to take some tissues just in case.

Sorry for bugging you needlessly this morning about this one, I’ll have to check closer in the future. “We had some spiciness in the previous episode…!” (Buffy immediately barks loudly) Me: I think she’s agreeing with you? I forgot to mention a couple things from the last episode: Maomao has a blind spot because she really has no concept of romance or feelings of that sort, she’s too focused on everything else. It’s kind of a trope, she really has no clue. On the flip side, when they were talking about Pairin’s lust, I’m a little concerned she was getting pulled away from a young girl… For this episode, the provocation Lakan referred to was the request for the blue roses. When Maomao figures out who sent the request she’s that much more eager to foil him. (And as she said earlier, maybe crush his creepy monocle.) She of course is also putting a lot of influence into everything and everyone around her, what with the manicures and all. As for the book she snuck out of the brothel, I’ll leave that to your… imaginations. We briefly touch on Loulan, who is connected to the previous empress dowager - there’s a lot I am not recalling from my initial watch, but I believe this is the same person who outlawed the cutting of trees, and was the person who ordered the eunuch making of Maomao’s adoptive father, among other things. (Something is nagging me about her role in the Lishu story as well but I can’t remember anything specific related to that.) But she didn’t sound like a very “good” person. So we get an idea of what Lakan is seeing in other people - they almost all look like go pieces to him. Now he refers to others as pawns and pieces, and says it’s important to put them in the right place so that the jobs get done, which is not actually wrong. I would say you seemed to infer he saw them as only pieces to move, but it’s more like he knows in reality they aren’t pieces, but for some reason that’s the only way he can view them. His feelings are rather complex, and we’ll table his discussion as here comes the penultimate and season finale. Don’t worry, you should at least get SOME answers. Perhaps. 👀

Oof! I love that Moamoa took up this challenge just to stick it to Lakan. I can never predict what each week will bring. When things begin to pique my interest like last week’s episode I always think we’re going to follow up on them but then we get these episodes, which are still fun, yet have me wondering where we’re heading. Because you know each episode holds some of significance for later. Finally a direct face-to-face between father and daughter. I’m looking forward to it. 🌹 🥀

Hey Melissa, I'm finally getting around to writing a comment since I've been so busy the last few days that I haven't managed to watch the Apothecary Diaries Reaction on time. I really enjoyed the reaction. I thought your reaction to Maomao's inspection of Lihaku was really funny. It was actually a very light-hearted episode, but it still remained serious. I thought it was justified that Lihaku was afraid that Pairin would be bought off by someone else, since he is only a simple military soldier and would probably need a long time to have the money to buy her out himself. That's why I thought it was even cooler that he didn't accept the money from Jinshi. It shows that he is a true gentleman and wants to earn his wife himself. That Jinshi naturally gets jealous when he sees Maomao inspecting another man in detail and then half-naked. I can't blame him for getting jealous. I mean, Maomao doesn't know that he's not a eunuch, which is why she thinks that Jinshi doesn't really suit her sister's taste, which I found really funny. And only then did Jinshi understand why Maomao did it in the first place. The blue roses were hinted at for a very long time in the opening and you probably won't really realize their significance until the next episode. Personally, I knew the procedure for making blue roses because my dad is a flower seller and has told me a lot about how things work in the flower business. I thought it was great how the episode showed how it was done back then using very simple methods. The whole thing about Loluan will probably find meaning in season 2. I know, of course, because I've read the manga. But be prepared that there will be a lot more content with Loulan. The painted fingernails also appear in the opening. Only very briefly, but they really are very important to Lakan. I find it very interesting that he is a strategist and sees all people as figures in the game. But there's also a really sad background to why that is. You'll find out all about that next episode. I'm so excited to see what you think of Lakan after the final two episodes and I'm really looking forward to your opinion.

Hi Spadeas! :) They were spot on haha!! Hahaha I'd say this scene was totally vital ;) I love their love story! Ooooh I thought I remembered you saying Meimei, I thought I was remembering wrong! Good to know! Oh yeah, I'm sure the manicure is some kind of chess move she's doing. I can't wait to see more about what they're trying to tell us about Lakan!!! OMG not tissues!!! :O What!!! Can't wait!!!

No worries! I was on my way to a doctor's appt for the baby so I didn't have time to make a separate post. LOL Buffy was backing me up! Yeah she was definitely out for some kind of scheme in this! Ooohhh yes I think you're right that the dowager did all those things! She doesn't sound awesome, they also mentioned she was WAY young when she had the current Emperor too right? So I'm guessing her life hasn't been awesome. Hmm, that's interesting about Lakan's feelings! I can't wait to learn more!!!

Hey Leonie! Yay!!!! I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed it! HAHAHA that was quite the inspection ;) I know, I'd be worried too if I were Lihaku. But he really proved how decent he is by still not taking the money for it. OMG poor Jinshi!! Maomao still thinking that Jinshi is a eunuch is such a comedy of errors! I've noticed the blue flowers in the opening! I can't wait to find out more :) Ooooh that's so cool that you know the process because of your dad! I knew flowers were dyed a lot but didn't know the whole process. I'm excited to learn more about Loulan later! OMG come to think of it, there are fingernails in the opening aren't there? Oh wow, I can't believe there's gonna be some sad tragic story that somehow involved Lakan.....I really can't wait to see but I'm not sure if I'm ready!!!!
