Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to Arcane ep 1!!!  WOW, I think I'm loving this show even more than I thought I'd be!  The visuals, the developing plot, the super likable characters....!!  I instantly fell in love with the story of Vi and Powder and I'm having fun putting together the way the world works.  And it seems we have quite the drama building as well...!!!  Cannot wait to see more!  So glad I'm checking this out!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

I don't blame Powder at all for ditching the loot to save herself. They should've had more situational awareness and protected her better. She did try to fend off her pursuer by tossing an homemade grenade at him, which is pretty hardcore but justified self-defense, in my book. Maybe if she'd started running when Vi tossed her the loot she could've made it to The Last Drop on her own, but she froze for a few seconds, overwhelmed by the violence unfolding in front of her....just long enough for one of the goons to spot her and chase after her...ditching the loot meant she was able to give her pursuer the slip, and he lost his motivation to keep up the chase. It wasn't her fault--THEY (the rest of her team) screwed up.

Same!!! She tried really hard for sure! I think you could definitely look at this as the rest of the team not having enough of a joint effort going in order to stay aware of Powder and the loot at all times. Definitely not all her fault and she did her best!!! I get why they're bummed after all that, but still.

I love this show so much. In terms of Western animation RWBY will always be my number 1 favorite but Arcane has quickly become 1 of my favorite shows. 1st I want to talk about how I love that even though it’s based on a long-running game that has a lot of lore you don’t need to know anything to enjoy this with how well this show is written. I can’t say anything about the gameplay so I haven’t played it and different people both say they like it or hate it but League of Legends is extremely popular and profitable. However one thing I am aware of is that unfortunately it has a rather large amount of toxic players infamous for it really a lot of people suggest not playing it because of that and from what I understand frustrating nature of the gameplay. I know a little more about the game than you but still very little compared to all the cinematics Riot has had made for the game and character/world information that is somewhat up to interpretation. Also fun fact I think the Imagine Dragons song fits the story but another reason they do the opening is because they have worked with Riot before a lot of their songs being used in the cinematics for LOL. I love the beginning of the episodes and its so impressive how they were able to convey so much emotion and information without any dialogue. I was already impressed with the animation and willingness to show dark and violent stuff but as soon as I saw a little girl covering her eyes and singing to distract herself while being guided through all this carnage I knew it was something special that would make me emotional. Also the lyrics to her song are important in that they very much are about the divide between the upper class and lower class from the perspective of the Undercity. It’s crazy when you look at the design of Vander’s gauntlets to think about how brutal him punching that Enforcer is. I think one of the best things about this show is the animation for facial expressions and body language which makes things like Vi & Powder breaking down so impactful. There’s something so symbolic about Vander looking down at his bloody gauntlets and letting them go to get the girls to safety. Also the dead person is most likely their and while it isn’t focused on there is a man nearby who might be their father. They did such a good job of representing the deep-seated anger Vi has towards the people who did this. The final shot of the place across the bridge does a great job of telling you there is an upper-class and lower-class and showing the disparity between them along with a lot of other stuff this episode. I absolutely love the opening and apparently a lot of people dislike Imagine Dragons which was surprising to me since I love them so much. I can’t say anything about the imagery in the opening but it is important. Also there is meaning to the songs but in my opinion the songs are mostly meant to set the tone for things in the show. It makes sense to have a time skip after that 1st scene and I love their older designs as well as the designs of the friends. I thought you would recognize the voice but Mylo is voiced by Yuri Lowenthal who not only does a lot of anime voice work but is also the voice of Mercury from RWBY. I know people mentioned her other roles but they forgot Hailey Steinfeld’s most important role and I can’t remember if you saw it but that role is Gwen Stacey from Into the Spiderverse. I love the shot of the city because it gives you such a great sense of scale. The parkour and movements of characters are so good. Comparing Vi & Powder’s relationship to Ruby and Yang’s relationship is really apt and this show is really good at getting you attached to characters. Steam punk is a good description for this area and I would describe both places as that personally. It’s very obvious that the lower area is extremely poor sometimes going hungry and it’s a stark contrast to this wealthy area that type of disparity sucks. I love how they all have different roles Mylo lock picking/being the sneaky one, Vi & Claggor being the muscle while Vi is also the leader and Powder using gadgets and being intelligent. You were a little curious about what they I think it was mostly anything valuable they could sell off later. It’s cool how you can tell the person who lives here is intelligent and wealthy with all the books and the equations on the blackboard as well as how large this place is. I like the detail that Powder having probably gone hungry before immediately eats the sandwich and the owner left the sandwich indicating they were coming back soon and that’s also something someone who has never gone hungry before would do which I learned from shows. Of course she would take those gems they do look valuable. As soon as I saw the gemstone that fell start emitting energy and continue rolling when it probably would have stopped otherwise my 1st thought was this is pure energy and really volatile. Also the reason why Powder isn’t more worried and fine with keeping the gems is that they don’t realize it caused the explosion. Those alarms give you a sense of dread and the escape is really intense. I like the design of the capture devices and they remind me of things I have seen in other shows. Also something cool is all the kids run in different ways. It makes sense that people would quickly hear about what went down so others wanting some of their stolen stuff makes sense and it’s a way to show underground doesn’t have divisions as well. I love the action in this show it’s just so weighty and dynamic which isn’t something all shows are able to do. It may be brutal but the way they represent it with the music and Powder’s reaction to it there’s a sort of raw beauty to it while also probably telling us she has some form of PTSD or trauma relating to her past. Claggor is awesome and I like that his bulk isn’t fat but mostly muscle shown by that body slam which is too often a stereotype. Vi is so strong and such a badass. I’m sorry for being crude but the way she confronts the guy with the knife at the end has such boss bitch/big dick energy. It makes sense having grown up where she did but Powder’s cute gadget more brutal than you thought being a nail bomb. You can understand why Mylo is upset with her losing the stuff but it’s even more understandable why she ran. The walk through the underground city is great showing so much of the world. It’s still steam punk but being grimier, darker, more ramshackle and with brothels and illegal things going down along with the music gives off such a different vibe. Lorde is a good comparison for the song but for me it was Halsey and was half convinced it was her until the credits. Vander just gives off such an air of strength and authority I love how much he does to protect his people and adopted kids even if it’s not official. I love how there are so many people willing to fight for him also I love his voice. I think he has such a good point about how much danger they were in. This argument is intense and I think both of their anger is justified. You know you are in trouble when a parental figure tells everyone else to leave the room. It’s nice how he’s caring but strict/firm with Vi and it’s a great point that leadership and trust comes with responsibility. It’s a good lesson even with the pressure that comes with it. I love his friendship with the shop owner involving a lot of humor and sarcasm. Also Ekko/little man is already a fun character isn’t he? There seems to be foreshadowing with them talking about more dangerous things but Benzo is right about the kids growing up and trying to change things. The Enforcers are very intimidating and while superiority might be part of it the masks indicate the air down here is toxic to some degree. This main Enforcer has a great design and her voice is so unique and cool. Also the name Grayson is really awesome. I believe her voice actress is Persian, Persian American or Persian British. Ekko’s way of listening in is so clever. The intrigue of the deal Vander has with her is great because from the dialogue we can clearly see that he doesn’t really have love for PIltover but is much more concerned with protecting his people and preventing unnecessary death. Although protecting the kids seems to be not going well with the upper-class needing a culprit. Mylo definitely deserved to be reprimanded because even though Powder made mistakes so did he. The humor in this show is fantastic and in this episode the funniest thing is clearly Vi’s gesture at the end of her talking to with Mylo which is so real and feels like such a teenager thing to do LOL. It sucks that Powder heard those harsh things which is a cliché but unlike the cliché they actually talked about it instead of it causing strife for 2 or 3 episodes. I love how protective, caring and understanding Vi is towards her sister their relationship is so heartwarming. The perspective that strength isn’t the only skill that matters is great. Also I love how Vi uses humor and heartfelt words to teach the lesson that everyone has bad days which is probably something everyone needs to recognize and that is not really bad thing. The way they act around each other is so sweet. That shot of the 2 of them side-by-side staring out towards Piltover is damn iconic. Then we end with an extremely menacing scene learning someone hired Deckard who did not follow the plan. This place has such a dark and oppressive atmosphere and this man is so menacing and intense. Also it may be scary but his design is incredible. This experimentation is as terrifying as it is horrifying considering how much stronger it made the mouse what could it do to a human which seems to be the plan. Although it’s interesting that it was the prey turning into the predator which is most likely symbolism of some kind. I knew you would love this show but seeing exactly how much you loved it was awesome. I like your thoughts on the episode. Great reaction can’t wait for more. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

Loving the animation as well!!! And that's too about the toxic players! The song is amazing and that opening scene is so powerful! And I could not agree more about the facial expressions!!! Oh that's good to know about the opening, too! Oh I didn't know that about Mercury's VA or Hailey's other voice work!!! Glad you liked my description and yes they do a great job of showing the disparity between the two worlds! Awww Powder and the sandwich :( That's such a good catch about the differences in running, too, that kind of attention to detail is amazing! LOL no worries, you are right on about Vi! Echo is awesome! And I recognize Greyson's VA's voice from lots of other shows. The sister bond is great for sure!! And that shot was iconic just like you said!!! Ahhh yes we have a whole other player too who I'm really intrigued about!!! Glad you enjoyed my reaction to that scene lol!!! And thanks for all your encouragement and support, it means a lot!!!!!!!!!!! ^_^

Supermonaman

Also even if you hate it you have to admit the cliffhangers are amazing and great for making you want to watch more. And I know it’s weird and easier to just type Echo but the character’s name is actually Ekko.

kamenriderhime

Oh yes for sure!!!!!!! And thanks for the heads up on the name, I wasn't sure since I was seeing it spelled both ways in the comments!!! Thanks :D
