Hey everyone! Here's my reaction and review of episode 17 of the final season of AoT! Here we go again with more drama and AoT goodness you guys!!! Really really hoping that Hange absconding with Levi's body is a good sign! And Zeke straight up absorbed a titan....!!! Meanwhile, the ultimate showdown between Eren and Reiner begins, and our friends have a choice to make! I love that Armin can be literally beaten up and tossed around by Eren and still believe in the friendship they've had all their lives over whatever is going on with Eren at the moment. Do you think Eren just straight up lied about Mikasa?! Also, I guess we are doing this when it comes to helping him?!?! Can't wait to see what happens next! Enjoy! ~ MH

That opening gets your blood boiling like the original opening! I am also with Armin, even though I definitely feel Conny's, pain. I may have rose colored glasses, but I just can't believe the Eren, who fought so hard for Armin's. life over Erwin's, would betray them. Also, I'm only guessing as an anime only. but I wonder, if Eren, is not in the nape but controlling the battle from underground, He just seemed very confident, & we know that he's not stupid:)

“I’m freezing and sweating at the same time.” - Good to be back, isn’t it? I’m told, by someone, but please don’t take this as official confirmation, that this cour has 12 episodes in it. I don’t know what we’re in for, but one of my friends is up to date on the manga and said they’re legit scared knowing what happens. Yeah, I caught on fairly fast that Hange was protecting Levi from the Jaegerists for a reason… why would you try to escape with a corpse? Also, it’s Levi: you really think one little Thunder Spear is gonna take him out like some punk? I have been pondering over what Eren said to Mikasa for a while, and while it’s horrible, they’re might be a twinge of reality to it: imagine how you’d feel if you discovered someone you thought actually cared for you was having their feelings manipulated and it wasn’t by their own choice. To be fair, I don’t think it’s quite as extreme a repulsion as he led them to believe, but I’m sure, being Eren, he’s at least somewhat annoyed that one of his closest friends isn’t in full control of her own emotional responses. Also they were referring to a specific kind of headache and flash, and we’ve seen Mikasa get them in the past, particularly in critical situations. I have to wonder if the girl Zeke saw… could that be the Founder Ymir? Maybe. I don’t think anyone knows for sure what happened there. Galliard yelling at Eren about trampling over his home is a bit hypocritical as he’s currently doing the same thing - and that’s how all of this got started in the first place! Is it possible Eren is playing 4D chess while everyone else is playing checkers and he’s really ten steps ahead of everyone else? I think, like Armin is inferring, he might actually be “big braining” all this and keeping his cards hidden from EVERYONE. By the way, if I tried to present a diagram indicating every different side and their agenda at this point, I’d have a room full of red threads and look like a freaking conspiracy theorist. 😅 I saw someone comment that their dad saw them watching this episode and asked them “so who’s the bad guy?” Their response was, “eh, just assume it’s everyone at this point…” 😂

Manny

Armin is so true hearted & faithful to his friend. Man this show just never stops tugging at your heart strings 😭 💓〰️👌

kamenriderhime

It really does!!!!!! Yeah I hear you, it's hard to believe that the Eren we knew is totally gone! Oh good call, that would make sense as to why he's so confident!!!! Hmmm!!!

kamenriderhime

I know!!!! My baby boy <3 For real, from the shot of them as kids in the opening to debating the meaning of true friendship, they just don't hesitate to punch me directly in the feels!!!!!!!!

kamenriderhime

Hahahah it sure is :D Oh good to know about the episodes! Yup, that makes a lot of sense about Hange trying to protect Levi. LOL yeah I think the thunder spear is more afraid of Levi than vice versa! :P Hmm, I see what you mean, that there may have been some truth to what Eren said. I suppose it's possible that it's partly true but his pushing them away is still part of some bigger plan as well. Ah yes, I guess those headaches wouldn't be from dehydration :P That's what I was thinking about the girl too!!! Oh yeah, when he said that about trampling the home I'm like - dude really???? You know how this all started correct??? :P Yes, I'm really rooting for the big brain scenario!! HAHAHAHAHA it would be the biggest mess of red yarn ever if you tried to do that! LOL the last line of your comment had me rolling, and it's so true.....it's AoT so basically no one is good/bad and everyone is good/bad :P

TheMoonKingdom

I hope you are right about 4D chess Eren. It would make sense considering all the memories he currently holds:)

kamenriderhime

I know!!! I could definitely see it happening. It's just so hard being in the dark about it right now...!

2023-01-17 00:45:10 I love this episode it was amazing and everything I was hoping for/expecting after the cliffhanger of last episode thank God we didn’t have to wait as long as the wait between S1 and S2. I like to hear your thoughts and it was interesting to hear after taking time to think after last episode and with my own thoughts. I don’t think I have said this before and I should have but I think longer discussion type videos on the shows you have reacted to would be awesome and something I think a lot of your fans would enjoy partially because I love longer discussions/analysis after reactions from other channels I watch. The promise of lots of stuff happening in the story at the end of last episode was exciting but I am glad it started with Zeke and Levi since we had no idea what was going on with that during the wait for new episodes. I love how overpowering the rain was to represent the overwhelming shock of what has happened and what Hange is going through seeing the state Levi is in. And even though he’s still alive this is the closest to death we have ever seen him and having lost 2 fingers even surviving this he will be negatively affected the rest of his life. Although this is some damn good bluffing from Hange unfortunately Floch is too smart for that. I feel like my thoughts on Floch will always be great character also terrible person I have cursed him out while praising his character multiple times. There seem to be a lot of religious imagery/symbolism going on with Zeke literally being reborn and the light shining down on him. Also the music is so ominous and eerie. His face is the look of a man who has seen some shit. They are looking on in shock but she is suitably horrified. Strangely enough we have this distraction to thank for Hange and Levi’s escape. His description of the entire experience is surreal and earth shattering because the only character that could be is Ymir Fritz and seeing closest thing to a God in the AOT world is crazy. And even though Zeke was using the Titan’s energy to heal himself it does seem like Ymir is helping. Which begs the question is she helping because she agrees with Zeke’s plan or because Zeke is necessary for someone else’s plan (cough Eren cough)? Although Zeke certainly sees it as divine intervention/justification for his plan. Also the being made from soil thing is reminiscent of other mythology/religion. I like that the soldiers air dropping in is a call back to Marley dropping Titans also some of them look to have antitank rifles. Also some dark humor is back with the whole Pieck getting her hand chopped off. I like that Galliard is now smart enough to only attack once and then retreat knowing Eren is too strong to take on alone. Also seriously Yelena you really told Eren not to fight LOL. Him not listening gives some credence to him having his own plan and there’s probably a personal aspect to it as well wanting to fight Reiner himself. Also I love that this entire battle is happening once again in the place where it all began Shiganshina it’s the only place it could happen. It’s such a nice detail that just like Eren in Marley Reiner shows him his wounded hand before transforming and it goes right into the grappling just like the fight when Reiner reveals himself and those kinds of Titan fights are some of people’s favorites. It just hits your heart when Gabi is so happy to see Reiner. The thing with Magath is multiple times he has shown that he cares about the warrior kids that’s the complicated part of his character he’s done so many terrible things but still has his humanity. I love we get to see the perspectives of so many characters and groups as well as the sharing of information because things not being black and white is what AOT does best. As soon as I realized the cannon was for Pieck I was like that’s perfect. I could go on forever about the fight all I think I need to say is the choreography and moving parts are so dynamic and I love how back-and-forth it is. Also I didn’t have problems with the animation by the new studio in part 1 I thought it was great but there were definitely rough edges to the Titan animation but it is really improved in this part already. I love seeing the teamwork and also Eren being outnumbered still very much is holding his own and his determination really shows through even when things are going bad. Also that cannon is brutally effective. It’s great that it’s so hard to root for anyone with everything we know. Reiner referring to all the suffering but particularly Eren’s suffering as he gains the upper hand is so hard hitting with the parallels between these 2 characters. And AOT once again presents what war is truly like as the scouts loyal to Eren are being decimated. Not much to say about Yelena but it’s interesting to see her fanaticism challenged because Eren is having a hard time. I love everything to do with Onyonkopon and all the characters discussion down in the cells. Connie’s rage is completely understandable after everything he has gone through and its just heartbreaking to see his sadness and despair over all the betrayals from friends and all the complicated feelings that come with that. You can so easily see how earnest Onyonkopon is and everything he says is so powerful and shows what a good person he is even in a world like this where he has to do terrible things for the sake of a positive future. I love that Armin lifts him back up and brings up his religious beliefs that we saw him be really interested in and I think it gave him hope. When they are talking about stopping the euthanasia plan I think it's more about convincing them not to do it since they do need them as messed up as it is. However horrific even releasing a little of the rumbling is it would protect them. It hurts to see Mikasa think and feel this way and sad to say I don’t think Eren is lying about it however I do think he’s lying about the severity and how much the Ackerman bloodline affects her choices/decisions. It’s so heartwarming to see how much Armin still believes in Eren but sad that the others don’t or have a lot of doubts. Also while I 100% believe he is doing his own plan that is insanely forward thinking and crazy to create a piece and everything Armin is saying makes sense with Eren’s character for the characters/in universe it’s the best case scenario and relies on him not having changed which I don’t think is the case we just didn’t have a complete understanding of how far he was willing to go we don’t know because we aren’t being allowed to see his perspective/thoughts which at this point seems deliberate to me. Also it is very much colored by Armin’s feelings but is logical. It’s sad to see Armin’s hatred toward the world as it has shown how cruel it can be willing to use the violence of the rumbling. We have seen the dark side of him before but still disheartening. Finally the way Eren’s scream just fades into the to be continued screen as well as the brutality and carnage of war is chilling and haunting. This was a great reaction and I’m going to be posting a separate comment about my thoughts on the opening and ending soon. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

2023-01-17 00:45:10 And now I get to talk about the opening and ending which is probably the best combination of OP and ED in the series. Also the songs are so fitting for this show and its themes. You wouldn’t think heavy-metal when thinking of this show but it makes so much sense and works so well with the darkness but I like that there are slow parts which are very meaningful. There is so much amazing symbolism and imagery in the opening. Eren walking alone really represents his solitude at this point and being atop the wall when the rumbling is a possibility is pretty great and terrifying. Also someone pointed out there are 9 birds flying beside him and not only is it symbolism used for freedom in the show there are also 9 titans and transitioning from the younger versions of the characters to grieving at Sasha’s grave is just mean but so meaningful to everything that’s changed and all they have lost especially showing Ymir and Historia knowing where their stories went. Also the transition from the warriors undercover to the warriors in Marley with the younger candidates is great and a sad thing is Udo and Zophia are there with blank faces representing their deaths. Showing each Titan and their wielders as well as the previous wielders is so great and having the action being shown during that part works really well. When we see Galliard the reflection in the window is Ymir and Bertoldt’s blood going to Armin as well as Eren holding the Warhammer Titan’s Crystal/life in his hands are nice touches. Also I know Annie is shown coming out of her crystal but if this is a lie and she doesn’t get involved in the story again I will be mad even if she would be possibly very confused. And then we see the girl who is definitely original Ymir and the tree representing paths at least in my opinion that was shown in the last ending which seems to be inspired by Norse mythology resembling Yggdrasil the world with what happened in this episode I think more crazy stuff with paths is going to occur. Then of course there’s war imagery and the people looking up in terror (possibly at some colossal Titan) is extremely chilling. Seeing the flash of younger Eren and the really integral cadets fills me with complicated emotions particularly a lot of melancholy. The animation of Eren screaming with the music is so raw and the crushed butterfly is a good (?) Continuation of imagery/symbolism throughout the series. The lyric of I never wanted to be the king for me represents him not wanting to do this but views it as necessary but combined with the lyric of I only wanted to save your life to me says he is doing this for people he cares about and not for the reasons he says. Also the name of this song is The Rumbling so take of that what you will. Now onto the ending which is my favorite of the endings and 1 of the best ones. Also it’s definitely a call back to/parallel to the 1st AOT endings which you might not remember was a Mikasa ending especially the start with young Eren against a night sky background. The song is so good and invokes a feeling of melancholy/sadness but also hope it also sounds beautiful. The way the bloody knife appears represents when he saved her but the Blood stains the flower it represents the loss of innocence and the purity of his dream of freedom even if he didn’t lose it. I love how the scarf transforms into a iridescent rainbow colored then gold colored birds trying to fly to freedom. And you don’t realize it’s the bars of a cage at 1st but the bird looks like it starts flying faster but can’t escape bursting apart but someone I watch had an interesting interpretation of the Golden light falling back down is maybe him getting the pure dream of freedom back. When he breaks out of the cage I think that’s what happens he’s able to see the beauty of the world and freedom but everything looks really old like it’s far in the future and the world has moved on from what’s happening in the present for better or worse. I love that it’s locations from the 1st 3 seasons shown here you even see the wall breaking down in the background. Also the way he looks around looks like relief. There is something really sad about seeing older Eren frowning as he walks towards the light represented freedom perhaps as he is engulfed by fire representing his determination/resolve/desire it feels like he’s willing to do anything even sacrifice himself for freedom as he vanishes. The lyrics for the part of the song used in the ending are so good and I want to talk about some of the translated lyrics in English covers I have found. There’s the lyrics “the journey to victory I am one step ahead of it” possibly indicating him actually having a bigger plan in mind and the lyric “both hero and villain are one path intertwined” which really describes him to a tee at this point. There’s lyrics talking about the cost of freedom and doing this all for you possibly about Mikasa, Armin or everyone he cares about. In another translation there is the lyric “no matter what I must sacrifice” and “I alone will pay the price” a lot of the song hinting at where the story is going and how it will end for Eren and it doesn’t look happy. And that connects to a theory I have had for a while that Eren is doing all of this to put all the world’s hatred and then is planning to die in a way that will bring about peace. Also there’s a lyric specifically about the world being cruel which is a big part of Mikasa’s character as well as a big part of her outlook on life along with the world also being beautiful. Also I don’t want to alarm you but the name of the song translates to child of evil. Here’s the links to the English covers I’m talking about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCGhwqX2spU and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5LytmtLmHk the 2nd 1 being a cover of the full version of the song although if you eventually want to react to song covers from shows you have watched you can hold off. Finally I think you might be interested in watching the 1st and this AOT ending side by side or one after another to see the parallels between those and how it represents their characters and how they affected and were influenced by each other. Someone I watch posted a mashup of both endings here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zW_tg3tr3ak and based on the images used ships Mikasa and Eren. The channel does remixes/covers of a lot of anime instrumentals and songs however he has done counters of all the Arcane songs and the thumbnails might contain spoilers so avoid it for now and the videos on the channel might be fun to react to. I know it’s not right away but I hope my thoughts give you some interesting things to think about. I think your reactions to the opening and ending were great especially getting emotional since I think they are specifically meant to do that and get you hype. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

And now I get to talk about the opening and ending which is probably the best combination of OP and ED in the series. Thank you so much for sharing all your thoughts! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you but reading this has definitely given me some interesting stuff to think about. There's definitely a ton of religious symbolism for Zeke here, as well as Ymir being the closest thing we have to a god on the series. I just watched the next ep yesterday and learned a bit more too! I'll be curious to find out just how true Eren's statements to Mikasa were! And it is really sad to think that Armin is so on board with the rumbling now....I mean I guess we have to do something, but I always felt like Armin was a bit more on the fence than that, you know? I'm also really happy to hear you enjoy my discussions and would like to see/hear more!!!! It would be really fun to just have a review video, particularly when I often think up new things/insights to talk about way after I'm done reacting!!! Thank you so much for all your support, it means a lot!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and interpretations on the song! There was so much I didn't even realize in there, like the blank faces. Also the symbolism with the scarf, birds, etc. is really interesting....and very sad to see how freedom looks/changes throughout the different eras of the show. Thanks so much for the link to the English covers, too!!!! Thank you for all your encouragement too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
