Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to Arcane ep 3!!!  OH....MY.....GOSH.....!!!!  You guys weren't kidding when you said this would be rough....!!!  Honestly, I was so in shock that I don't even think the full sadness of it all really even hit me during the reaction.  I was just in a total panic the whole time!  I can't believe this is where the story has brought us!  Our friends and family were so much of the reason we even wanted to be in this fight.....now what?!  The boys and Vander are gone and that awful monster man is taking in Powder?
And Vi is all alone?!  (Actually right now it looks like an enforcer has her, so who knows what's going on there.)  Ugh, it was so well done and layered too, what with the parallels between Vander and his brother, and Vi and Powder.  Poor Powder was just trying to help....!!!  HOW DID IT COME TO THIS?!  Well, looks like the story as we know it is gonna completely change from here.  Great but heartbreaking ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

In the pursuit of war, loss is inevitable. First off, this episode had no right to be so visually stunning while also so heartbreakingly painful. Like on one hand all I wanna do is fawn over how amazing everything is, but on another I'm too busy crying to actually see anything haha. We'll begin with our first loss, Grayson. Grayson was seemingly the only sympathetic voice the undercity had on the enforcers - she was willing to work alongside Vander to maintain peace between both parts of the city and even attempted advocating for them against the council. And now that she's lost, so too is that sympathetic voice, that silent helping hand. And gosh, the symbolic nature of the coin Marcus was given being soaked in Grayson's blood... god. I understand why Powder was so distraught that her sister didn't want her to go with them to save Vander. I mean her WHOLE family is putting there lives on the line to save their father figure and she's just supposed to stay at home, hoping they come back alive? Thinking about it from the perspective that she's already lost a family and she couldn't do anything about it then, I can't imagine how terrifying to be told that. Not to mention it plays into her self-doubts and insecurities - she just wants to be able to help. But on another hand, Vi isn't actively trying to discredit Powder's abilities here, it's as she is says, all she wanted was Powder to be safe - in this situation she has no idea whether any of them will get out of it alive - she would much rather Powder be alive and safe then with them where she will be in constant danger of dying - give Powder a chance at life even if that means she may not be there for it. She just wants to protect her sister. Silco's definitely an interesting character, and his dynamic with Vander is also very interesting. He's very much the extremist to Vander's (at least now) pacifist, but he holds respect for those who deem worthy of it. Like he said, he respected Vander even after their fight because he stuck to his ideals - it was only after Vander partnered up with Grayson, an enforcer, a literal symbol of every bad thing that has ever happened/is happening to the undercity in Silco's eyes - where Silco lost respect for him. He pushes for a war for change, whereas Vander would rather take smaller steps towards change. Of course, even a pacifist can be pushed when extremes meet, as we see later on. Now... for the hardest part. So from what I know, Claggor died immediately because one of the gems shot through his head, whereas as we saw Mylo was impaled and then crushed. That's horrific to think about, when you think about how old they both were and so on. But that is the type of loss that Vander was talking about last episode, "no one wins in war." whether its this personal vendetta that Silco had with Vander or the war between the Undercity and Piltover. And in war, its often the children who suffer the most, especially children bred and raised in an environment where survival matters more than anything. Poor Powder. We see the stark differences in how well those gems work when used by people with knowledge of how to harness them, but this was the result of a child desperate to do anything she could to save her family... it's just sad that it worked a little too well. (I imagine the explosion was of such a large scale because of how many she put into the bomb, she had about 2-3 inside the monkey, and then one in the center getting mashed by the symbols.) Vander really gave it his everything to protect those kids, rest in peace Papa V. Last minute edit: Also theres that split second when Vi sees the head of the used monkey bomb, people have theorised that initially upon seeing that, that Vi thought Powder had gone against what she said, had followed them there and died in the blast with Mylo and Claggor. Which, if true, would have messed up her emotional state even more. Vi's reaction... is understandable. She just bore witness to not only the death of her brothers, but also had her second father die in her arms. She's left with the survivors guilt of being the only one to live from that ordeal, and then suddenly her little sister who she had already told not to come, come running up and saying she's the reason the explosion occurred. Her emotions are all over the place, she's distraught, lost, heartbroken and angry... and here's her little sister, the only one she has left, telling her that the bomb was hers. Vi's always handled things with her fists, she falls back on that when she's sad or frustrated, and in the heat of the moment that's what she did. (Do I think she SHOULD have hit her, no. Do I think the reaction was realistic and understandable, yes.) And you can see the split second realization of what she did and how much it hurt her to see that she did that to her own little sister. So, in what I think was necessary for her in that moment, she walked away to try and calm herself down. It's just unfortunate that, that action is what left Powder the most vulnerable. And it's even more heartbreaking to know that Vi, upon seeing Powder with Silco standing over her, was immediately going to go back to her - which probably would've gotten them both killed - but she was still going to come back. She never meant to leave her, not like that. Screw Marcus dude. You can really see Powder's age shine here, she's young, probably no older than 10 or 11 here, she doesn't truly grasp the deeper meaning of things or situations - especially not when she's distraught like that. To her the moment Vi walked away after hitting her, to her meant that her sister didn't love her anymore... which we know isn't true but to a child it's understandable why that logic occurs. And because some part of Silco seems to empathize with that sentiment, "she left me, we're not sisters anymore", being very similar to his situation with his ex-brother in arms Vander, he sees himself in her. Which means our antagonist just got a ward... which can only end in heartbreak for me, you and Vi. Note: Don't even get me started on the literal parallel shot of Vander holding Silco by throat, and the shot of Vi holding Powder by her face, and then the reactions of both Vi and Vander after they realised "this is my sibling, am I really doing this to them?". But yeah, overall, such a beautifully heartbreaking episode, now we just need to see where these new tides take us. Looking forward to next ep, and excellent reaction as always! Hope you have a great day/night!

I won’t be able to watch this for a few hours, but I just wanna say that I am not emotionally prepared for this episode’s ending. There will definitely be tears on my end

Hi Hime :) For Victor, I don't play LoL, but after finishing Arcane I went to see the character sheets, and his appearance between the game and Arcane is different, that's why the surprise. But you will understand during the series, why this difference. This episode is when everything you hope doesn't happen, happens ... Out of all our heroes, only Vi, Powder and Ekko remain. How to cut the cast in 2. Now we're actually going to have a new arc, but I'll say more when we get there. On the other hand, the number of elements which I can not speak about because they are clues to what is happening lmao.

This episode wrenched me to pieces given the ending with Vi and Powder. It was so heartbreaking, and especially seeing how broken Powder was just from being left behind when the team left you can only imagine how even more broken she will be under Silco's control and with the thought in her mind that Vi abandoned her. Hang on tight cause it only ramps up from here.

Mia Sinclair Jenness' work as the VA for Powder is probably some of the best and most convincing VA work I've ever hard in this episode

at 34:26 I seriously feared Powder was falling to her death.....in hindsight that might've been a more merciful end than....what came after......

John J Ronald

Vi recognized she needed a moment to collect herself and grieve so she wouldn't hurt Powder more....so she backed off.....but she was robbed of that needed moment by Marcus & Silco.....Powder's cries and anguish just stab you in the heart....Powder has anxious attachment and has serious abandonment issues....while Vi's attachment style is avoidant....she sometimes needs to pull away and have some alone time.

John J Ronald

Silco to Marcus like "here, take your 30 silver and shut up you f*cking Judas."

I love Viktor's vaguely Eastern European accent & demeanor, btw. He is Jayce's partner and friend, but he does have his own motives for wanting this enterprise to work (that will become clearer later).

Powder is like a Novice Mage in D&D who just learned the Fireball spell but doesn't quite understand how to target them yet and wound up causing a near TPK the first time she casts it in combat....

So, did you hear that truck when the video started up? That was us Patrons making a quick getaway with all of your feels. :D “Please don’t do anything to them…” Actually, technically, we aren’t doing just anything. We’re doing EVERYTHING to EVERYONE. I made popcorn for this one. :D Other people are much more versed in the lore of this world and backstory than me, but just a couple of fine points to tune out here: The “villain,” is named Silco. They only mentioned his name once or twice here, but it’s one you’ll need to get down. He obviously is a major player in this particular story arc. Also, there’s a lot more depth to his character than it might appear right now. No, you aren’t supposed to LIKE him. But I think you’ll find this character to be a very compelling discussion point. Also, the purple drug he’s in possession of is called “Shimmer.” Recall back in Chapter 1, when the kids all called Powder a jinx - every time she gets involved, things go terribly awry. First they lost their loot. Now some of them have lost their lives because she got involved. Both times, things would have gone off without the level of trouble if she wasn’t there. It wasn’t just hyperbole. It’s kind of like Qrow’s Semblance; but it’s a lot more focused than that. I believe it was Marcus who took Vi away at the end of the episode. The biggest dangers come from the most unlikely places. This was basically the end of the prologue and setup. Now the real story begins. All I can tell you is when Episode 4 begins, it will have been several years since these events took place. At least you don’t have to wait too long to see where the story goes next. Imagine if this was the end of the season. We’re already sitting on a FEW cliffhangers that I can think of. Are we having fun yet? :D

Manny

I’m not having fun anymore! 😰😫😖

This is one of the best episodes I've ever seen, in anything. From the writing, to the cinematography, the musical score to the the voice acting, it stretches out this moment in excruciating detail so you understand fully where everyone is coming from. Why Powder's abandonment is so pronounced, why Silco goes from planning to kill her to comforting her, how Vander goes from being unwilling to fight to being unwilling to die. I can't rewatch this episode without crying.

kamenriderhime

Oh gosh! I hope you were able to watch it and that you enjoyed my reaction!!! This was a heartbreaking episode to say the least!!!

kamenriderhime

Hi Spadeas! :) Hmmm, interesting!!! I can't wait to know more! They cut down so much of our crew here, it was crazy! I had a feeling we were moving into another arc, perhaps with a time jump? We'll see. I can't wait to hear more once we get more into the series!!

kamenriderhime

Ugh I hear you!!!! It was so sad to see the culmination of all Powder's struggles on the team lead to this. I can't even imagine what she will become under Silco's tutelage. I can't wait for more, even though I'm scared!!!!

kamenriderhime

Couldn't agree more!!!!!!!!! The scream-crying was so intense and gutwrenching!!!!!!!!!!!!

kamenriderhime

Gotcha, she was trying to just take a breath....sadly there was no time for that and it looks like their reconciliation will never come. :( I can absolutely see how their attachment styles are a stark contrast to one another.

kamenriderhime

Nice!!! Yeah, I got the idea he had his own agenda when we first met him, but I'm glad he does also see Jayce as a genuine friend!!

kamenriderhime

It's incredibly put together, right?! Everything is working so well at once. It's pure gold. And to think it's only episode 3!!!!!!!!!!

kamenriderhime

Hahahahaha get back here with those feels!!!! >.< Yeah, you've got a point there...they really didn't single anyone out for torment in this ep. o.O Hahaha is your popcorn salty? Cause I'm pretty sure it's flavored with the tears of fans everywhere!!! Silco, got it! And I'll be curious to see more about his arc! Oh wow!!!! I don't think I realized she was an *actual* jinx.....! Oh great, Marcus has got Vi???? Sheesh. Dang! I figured we'd have a time jump after this. I'm so scared to see what sweet Powder is like after being raised by Silco :( OMG!!!! I'd be dying if I had to wait more than a week!!!!!!!!!! LOL define fun! But I'm really excited to see what happens next...little scared, very excited!!!!!!!!

kamenriderhime

It was so visually stunning, right?! And true, we've now lost both of the people who were trying to keep their respective places sort of at bay when it comes to war, violence, interference, etc. The coin toss was very intense and symbolic - John summed it up well! Great point that you can see where both Powder and Vi are coming from. Silco is a very interesting character who does seem to have a weird sort of standard like you said. Ugh, the boys being killed that way is just horrific! And it's just so horribly ironic and sad that Powder sees this as her chance to redeem herself and offer some help and it ends up going this way. Oh yeah, I could definitely see Vi thinking that Powder was there and had died - I was kinda thinking that too actually. I totally agree about Vi - of course the way she acted wasn't great, but it was absolutely understandable when you consider everything. She's still young too, after all, and she had just been through the most traumatic event of her life (well, maybe right up there with losing her parents, but still). And yeah, she was all ready to go back for Powder. Freaking Marcus!!!! I couldn't tell if he was trying to help or not but if it was Marcus then my guess is no lol. So true, you can see Powder's understanding of the world is very limited as a child's would be, for sure. Ugh, cannot believe things have gone this way! I would have guessed Powder would die before she became Silco's ward. I'm honestly not sure which one is worse, as harsh as that is to say. Oh the parallel shot...!!!! I hope you had a great day/night as well, thanks for sharing your thoughts with me! Can't wait to see what comes next!!!
