Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to Arcane ep 4!!!  Here we are in the future and it's.....well.....it seems to be going better for Jayce than where we last left him, anyway!  It was cool seeing how far the Piltover crew has come - Caitlyn forging her own path, Jayce becoming a prominent science and beloved figure in general, with Viktor by his side.  Sadly, Viktor doesn't look well!!!  But Powder....well, that's going about as I'd imagined.  :(  She's so unhinged now, understandably so!!!  And the whole underworld is looking a bit different than when Vander was in charge.  Last but not least, that final scene filled me with all the squees.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I can't even imagine what kind of headspace our Vi must be in, but it looks like we'll find out soon!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Hi Hime :) Jinx/Powder isn't very stable, but that's not really Silco's fault. We could already see during her crisis when Vi and the others left her behind to go save Vander, that she had some problem... Silco just encouraged that part of her. The song while Jinx is working is "Get Jinxed", a song that served as a promo for her character when she arrived in LoL and already showed that she had a Harley Quinn vibe. Basically, the song shows that she likes action, anarchy, chaos and not being ignored or bored. Small note in relation to Silco injecting something in the eye, he already does it in his first appearance, even if it's in silhouette and therefore less "direct" than in this episode. But as he explained, the toxins from the river ate his nerve and his eye, by injecting himself with the shimmer, he reduced the pain altogether. You can already see a little more about Caitlyn and one of the reasons why I love her, despite her status, the bullying of her "teammates" and Marcus who put spokes in her wheels, she tries to do her job best and be helpful. It already shows a strong personality and you will really like her duet with Vi.

The chairman that got the birthday present from Medarda in Ep2, is still trying to solve it. After you finish the season you should watch the Animated song jinxed listened to As other say its called "Get Jinxed", you also can listen to it, but watching it might spoil somethings. Might be even on spotify There is also a theme for Vi, you can also listen to it. Sadly its not in the show. Fun fact, the singers of both Songs, made a remix. Where they both sing their song. "Here comes Vi/Get Jinxed - mashup" I wanted to mention it because you always like music in shows. :D

Progress means different things when applied to different people. The world has definitely changed in this time skip, Piltover now being the capital for all things trade and utilizing magic in the form of Hextech and the Hexgates. But with progress and new opportunities comes the exploitation of those things. It's ironically funny that we're shown truly in this episode how beautiful, lively and utterly perfect Piltover seems and then we're immediately thrust into a situation that shows how untrue that can be. Nothing is perfect after all. Even the most perfectly normal and law-abiding Piltover citizen can be coerced and paid off to do something less law-abiding and yet nothing becomes of them the same way it does for Undercity citizens. The progress and perfection Piltover is so proud of seems to overshadow a lot of darker things that they demonize in the undercity. But beyond that, we see Jayce being given a lot of praise and commends, thrusted into being the face of Piltover, it's 'Golden Boy'. It's so irritating that the councilors that discredited him and actively discouraged him are now the ones to hold him in high regards now only because his and Viktor's invention is benefiting them... but then again that's how it always goes with these types of things isn't it. Anyways! We're reintroduced to an older Caitlyn!! I honestly love Cait, more on why later, but I honestly feel like you will too! Her dynamic with Jayce is so sibling-like, it's nice since she's an only child and all. But yeah Caitlyn and her mother don't exactly see eye to eye, which harkens back to Cait being a "misfit" I suppose. (So if I'm not incorrect about 7-8 years has passed so Jayce would be around his late 20s and Caitlyn would be early 20s). Enter Jinx, the Harley Quinn of League of Legends... as sad as it was to see her like this, it was also majorly badass. Like we've been talking about how kickass Powder would have been if she had gotten her hand on a gun back when she was younger, and to see that finally become a fact now that she's older, (around 17-18), it's incredible to see how capable she is. So yes, as bittersweet as the situation is, seeing her being able to fight now, when she thought she never could the way her sister did, is pretty cool. Heartbreaking but cool. Speaking of heartbreaking, being haunted by your guilt and trauma is so fun, right? *she typed sarcastically* I feel so bad for both Jinx and the individual, Jinx because she's still suffering from memories that will never abandon her, and the individual because they were being held at gun point and then subsequently murdered because they looked similar to Vi. I kinda just feel bad for everyone. (I will agree with Spadeas that while Silco did encourage and invoke negative behaviours in Powder/Jinx, Powder's mental instability was always there. Which I feel like is something that's a given if you originate from the undercity and have the type of past that she and Vi had). Sort of relevant but not really, Viktor has seemingly upgraded from a walking cane to a crutch... just figured I'd mention that. Also! Those items the boys created are actually used by certain characters (that I will not talk about till later) in the actual game, so this is sort of their origin for those items I suppose. While I do agree that the boys need to work more on the kinks of the items... I feel like Heimer is too dismissive of the fact that humans don't live as long as his own species seem to, it's like he thinks everyone can play the long game like he can and that's just not feasible. And now we get to see more into Caitlyn, she actually does have quite the talent for detective work, not many field officers are able to accurately recreate a scene just by piecing surroundings and evidence pieces together - that's generally why the practice of having forensic officers on scene is standard I believe - so she is quite the natural talent in her field. And she has enough empathy in her to see an injured undercity individual, whose hiding at the scene of the crime, and pull out something to compress his wound - something I imagine they don't see or get from many enforcers. Speaking of asshole enforcers, renter Marcus. Ugh, I hate Marcus. Before, under Vander's leadership/influence, the undercity wasn't perfect but it was more of a community that stuck together and lived in a relative sense of normality. Now, under Silco's leadership/influence, the undercity seems to have devolved into a criminal empire, where the weak are extorted and drugs - specifically Shimmer - are a very widely spread and wildly used commodity. Also its like a sign of either real disrespect or just plain rudeness that Silco took over the Last Drop - arguably Vander's last legacy, asides from Powder and Vi - and turned it into a club as opposed to the quaint bar it used to be. And yes, Jinx seems to be having the same issues she was before, her eagerness to please people (specifically Vi and Silco) often leads to... well we know. This is what I meant when I said this show is sorta like Game of Thrones, the political game and aspect that Mel plays and brings to the table, very Cersei like, in my opinion. The sad thing is poor Viktor probably does want to stand side-by-side with Jayce, but as an Undercity citizen he knows very well what other Piltovans will think of him if he went up there. So regardless of his contributions he feels like he 'has' to stay off to the side and that's led to Jayce being the sole figurehead of Hextech. Very sad. Yeahhhh Caitlyn isn't very well liked in her job, for the same reason undercity individuals don't like Piltovans ironically. Because she's from a noble house, people automatically think she's above them and think she's looking down on them. (It's also interesting that even before this moment with the fire, Caitlyn and Powder had unknowingly been in the same building as each other and had their lives intertwined even back then). Cait's little crime board is so like intricate that there's no way she hasn't been working on it for a while, so even in spite of everything that's holding her back (her parents and Marcus) she still wants to help and just do the right thing. So while temporarily not a an enforcer, she's gonna go do some typical cop movie stuff and do something to honor herself and get her badge back! Not gonna lie, your reaction to seeing Vi again was mine exactly! It was so good to see her after the whole episode!! She's so different but still the same, still using her fists to let out her aggression. It's interesting to note that she seemed to be the only cell there, so it looks like she's in a solitary confinement of some sort. The idea of Caitlyn, a Piltovan enforcer, is going to interact with Vi, Vander's legacy and who holds the Undercity in her heart, is definitely interesting indeed. I know for a fact you're going to love that particular duo! But yeah! Sorry for my ranting-ness, I'm happy to see despite all the pain and sadness of last ep you're still enjoying the show! "Get Jinxed" on Youtube is a wonderful example of internet history. You can dive into the comments and see all the people who commented 8 years ago when it first came out, and then came back after watching Arcane, right alongside people who watched Arcane first and got a different impression. Funny, and fascinating.

Just quick clarification; so that girl that Jinx (Powder) fought topside was just some random redhead but it triggered Jinx's PTSD and she hallucinated seeing Vi....but it wasn't really Vi.

I don't know the canon answer from LoL proper, but I'd say after the time-skip Caitlyn looks to be a mature 19, while Vi is probably in her early 20s by now.

You'll notice the other rank-and-file Enforcers don't particularly like Caitlyn....they can't understand why a high society girl would deign to join the police force....they view her with suspicion as either lacking ambition or a dangerous idealist. And yes, Marcus is the new Sheriff, replacing Grayson.

I would also recommend holding off watching "Get Jinxed" until you finish the show.....when you do finish Arcane Season 1, watch the full length music video of Imagine Dragons "Enemy" and then watch "Get Jinxed"......you could do them both in a single reaction video as a series capper.

To me, Caitlyn feels more like a mature 19, while Jinx is probably still a rowdy 16-17. Vi is in her early 20s, a little older than Caitlyn (but not much older).

Silco is also for violence and messing shit up in Piltover but he does it strategically, with careful planning; Jinx is a pure chaos agent who does whatever she wants whenever she wants....in D&D terms, he's Lawful Evil while she's Chaotic Evil, emphasis on the Chaos.

Bit of career advice to Caitlyn, you can still take the cushy staff job and THEN go rogue ;-) But she probably has a trust fund and isn't exactly hurting for cash and doesn't want a job that will tether her to a desk. But again putting on the career counselor hat, it's more about the connections, who you know and who has your back, y'know? Whose authority you can throw around in a pinch, etc.

Other people seem to be writing essays in here, so they must know more than me - this show isn’t my forte when it comes to knowledge, so I’ll just hit the bullet points. XD The group that attacked the Shimmer smuggling was called the Fire Lights. The councilor Jayce is spending a lot of time talking to, the one who wants him to proceed is Mel Medarda. For reference purposes, Powder is the little girl, and that character’s gone with age. Jinx is the adult character. It’s not only a moniker, the hint was already dropped, as you were told earlier. Jinx is one of the most well known characters in the LoL franchise, so it makes sense that they’d spend so much time in the show telling you how we got here with her. Silco has a artificial eye, because of what the river toxins did to his real one when Vander was trying to drown him. Jinx was helping him inject Shimmer into it. The council was talking about this: Shimmer is being used in the under city to create and power all sorts of different artificial devices that enhance or replace body parts. Like maybe a robot arm (or two?) Hmmm… a character who loses sight of the big picture and goes too far…? Does this show you’re referring to have a title of four letters by any chance? 😉 Speaking of Silco, I think his VA (Jason Spisak) does a superb job in the role. He can sound super calm when he’s explaining something, and then turn menacing just by changing an inflection. Yes, his lieutenant is the person who was telling Vander he looked weak, while we’re on it. He sounds like he’s got everything under control and you’d better not cross him when he’s at his desk giving orders, and then he realizes just how much of a loose cannon Jinx is, and you can hear just how much stress she’s putting on him when he tries to reign her back in. “We still haven’t seen Vi yet.” - character shows up ten seconds later. Be careful what you do with this power. XD More layers will be added to this… and then more… and then more after that.

Hi Spadeas! :) That's true, I just edited that one actually, and you can really see how hard it is for her to cope! Silco definitely amplified it, I'm sure....but it was there. Whoa, that's awesome about the song!!! Ohhhhh thanks for the info on the eye! That makes a lot of sense actually! Caitlyn seems awesome so far! I can definitely see why you enjoy her character, and I can't wait for her to team up with Vi!!!!!!!!!!!!

You make some excellent points here about the irony of Piltover!!! It's so gleaming and beautiful and progressive, yet, here are two prime examples of ways in which it's failing. You can still bribe someone super easily and a genius like Jayce was only really recognized once his inventions were helping to put money in people's pockets. I'm loving older Caitlyn! Yeah, it's soooo bittersweet to see Powder/Jinx because while I'm sad over what happened, also WHAT A LOOK THOUGH!!!!!! And yes, I have to agree with you and Spadeas that the instability was always there, sadly. Good point about Viktor! And also about the differences now that Silco has taken over. It's sad to think that Vander's one legacy is gone, half the kids are dead, one is being raised by Silco, and the other is in prison :( I can definitely see some GoT going on here, that's a great comparison! And that is really sad about Viktor, particularly when he said in the past "you think it was my dream to be an assistant?" >.< That makes sense about Caitlyn, that the other enforcers would give her lots of crap for being from a high house and all that. But yeah, we're definitely going into some cop movie stuff here now haha! AWWW glad we had similar reactions to Vi!!! Yeah, to say these two are from different worlds is an understatement...but I can't wait to see their interactions!!! Omg, no apologies necessary! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Ep 3 was definitely a shocker but I'm still here and having a ton of fun on the ride!!! Hope you're having a great day/night as well!!!

I knew about Silco's eye but didn't put it together that he was putting Shimmer in it, that makes total sense though! HAHAHAHAHA Tyler I knew as I was saying it that you would put together the reference IMMEDIATELY!!! :D You got it! I feel like he even dresses like him a little bit lol. Oh I agree about Silco! He sounds like a scary David Tennant to me haha. Thanks for confirming about the lieutenant! Yeah, it's unnerving to see him get stressed in any way for sure!!! Sheesh, as if he wasn't scary enough right?? Hahahahaha I promise to only use my powers for good :D Can't wait for more!!

Ah, Caitlyn is probably my fave character in this series (Probably, it's kinda hard to choose sdjfs), so it's super cool to start getting into the parts of the show where she's more prominent. Really looking forward to next time, one of the best episodes!
