Hey everyone!  Here I am, with episode 28 (the FINALE) of season 4, part 2 of Attack on Titan!!  Wow, I was really hoping deep down that maybe there would still be a way to stop the Rumbling.  :/  It was interesting filling in some of the gaps when it comes to Historia, the whole nonsense Ackermann thing, and even just seeing how Eren came to the conclusion he did.  And to see everyone before things totally went to heck!  Also, I'm really, really sorry for all the confusion at the beginning - I hope you can still enjoy my reaction!  So glad there will be a part 3!  See you then!  Great season!  Enjoy :)  ~ MH

Sasha’s genuinely hurt that you didn’t recognize her immediately. 🙃 First things first: The Ackermann reaction is not “B.S,” as you were saying. Eren is asking Zeke about it, and he prefaced his answer by saying he didn’t know for sure: but we’ve actually SEEN Mikasa react like he described in the past when Eren was in danger - most notably, the first time she and him take down the thugs who killed her parents. And she has mentioned strange headaches. So it’s reasonable to assume that Zeke’s speculation is accurate, because those descriptions fit with what the show has shown us, even as far back as Season 1. You were asking where this was: the first scene is Mikasa by herself on the boat she just hijacked, and pondering what’s led to this point. So we’re right after the end of the last battle where she is and then she goes into flashback mode. (Also, I’m a bit shocked you glossed over the fact none of them knew what ice cream was - that kinda feels like a big deal on your radar. 😂) Anyway, I think the main focus of this chapter is clearly Eren, whether it be from Mikasa’s view or his own. Either way, I’m kind of glad we finally checked in with her as she’s not someone who really wears emotions on her sleeve but she has to be more affected by this situation than anyone, yet she hasn’t really let on. Oops, got distracted - back to Eren. I think there are several things that gave him the decisiveness to move forward with this. 1) The constant attacks on Paradis Island resulting in deaths of fellow Eldians who were transformed into Titans, and their victims, including his mother, so he’s aware of how it feels to be on the other end. 2) The fact that even the so-called Ymir Protection Group is out to get his people, and isn’t even interested in trying to talk them down. Of course, he’s also seen the way Eldians have been treated outside the walls. 3) He doesn’t have another solution. He is pretty clear with that during his conversation with Historia. Also, when she tries to dissuade him, he brings up her quote when she saved him from Reiss about “being the worst girl in the world.” It’s not exactly how she was thinking at the time, but her actions have literally allowed this to happen. If she’d listened to Reiss and left Eren there chained instead…? Who knows? 4) I think this might be one of the key exchanges. It’s when Eren asks Mikasa “what am I to you?” Of course, that’s an awkward question under NORMAL circumstances, so it’s not unusual that she gave a timid response and just said “it’s because you’re family.” She meant it in the best way possible at the time, of course, but the more I think about it, the more I think that Eren took it as a rejection from her. We all have kind of seen the way she’s treated him over the course of the series up to this point, but a contradictory answer might’ve been the last nail in the coffin to “well, if she only sees me like that, then I really don’t have anything else to hang on to and I can go forward with this without feeling like I’m leaving someone behind.” A callback to earlier, the Ackermann syndrome isn’t BS, but Eren telling her “I’ve always hated you” most definitely is. I think he did it to make it easier to cut ties for both himself and her, because he knows there’s no coming back from this. So now Mikasa is grappling with the simple question: “What if I had given him a different answer?” Who’s to say. The mind of a woman can be very complex, but so can a man’s, especially when given certain information to process in certain moments such as this. Mikasa may never know what the extent of her response’s repercussions are. 5. The final straw for Eren, and this is one that’s incredibly easy to understand: is when Sasha died. Obviously it’s heartbreaking for everyone, but knowing Sasha to be probably the most “innocent” of the entire crew, and to find out she’s been gunned down by a child soldier pretty much has convinced him. He was laughing when he was told, not because Sasha died, but because at that point there was no redemption worth discovering for any non-islander. That was it. End of story. He was laughing because he was relieved that there was no longer any moral ambiguity about destroying them all in his eyes. So yeah, he’s not playing, clearly. Also the Founding Titan design looks super freaky. And Eren hasn’t changed, he’s uttering the same line at the end of this episode that he did back in Season 1: to wipe out every last one of them. Except in his mind now, EVERYONE who isn’t on the island is responsible. And in a way: he’s not wrong. The attitude constantly shown his people, especially when he saw life outside the walls - well, you can only kick people down for so long before they decide to retaliate - and get even. So is Eren the monster? The savior? Both? Neither? The answer is too grey to know for sure. But the one thing that’s not up for debate is the rest of the world is now in this situation because of their own hate and unwillingness to even try to understand Eldia. And I don’t really have an answer for how to get it resolved. But I guess that’s why I leave story writing to people better at it than me, cause at this point I’m pretty sure I’d just feel like I’ve written everything into a corner with no way out. Guess we’ll have to see. Also, nothing officially announced but I did hear Winter 2023, if that helps.

Lol!!! Thanks for taking my reaction in stride, you know I'd never wanna hurt my Sasha :D I guess BS was a harsh term, seeing as how she really does have those symptoms. But from what I understood of Zeke's explanation, it's not some kind of Ackermann mind control, necessarily? But more likely just due to her feelings for him? Ah yes, thanks for clarifying about Mikasa's line! LOL I was honestly SO confused at that part, I couldn't even take a second to call out the ice cream stuff!!! Yeah, you can totally see how these events led Eren to his current line of reasoning. I was so disappointed about the Ymir Protection Squad. Ahhh, so he took that as sort of a rejection then....in other words, they're just like brother/sister because she was sort of adopted by his family. And if she had given him a different answer....!! So the symptoms are not made up, but Eren lashing out at her was to push her away. Dang! Ugghh, Sasha being the last straw makes total sense. If only he knew how Gabi feels now though!!! That's the thing - he's not exactly wrong that everyone who's not on the island wants them gone. It's way too grey! I hear you, I don't have an answer either, so I'll leave that to the manga higher ups haha. Awesome, Winter 2023 is less than a year away!!!! Thanks for all the info!
