Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction to episode 117!  Omg, as if things couldn't get any worse, now we have a new power up for Youpi!!!  Can we all agree that Knuckle going back and forth on barely getting away alive with Shoot, or going back to fight, was WAY too intense?!?!?!?  Also, WHOA, Cheetu didn't stand a chance lol!!!!  It feels wrong to think anyone's death is funny, but wow, he just got squished by Killua's dad!!!  I knew he shouldn't be trying to provoke someone like gramps.  Can't wait to see what happens next!  Great ep!  Enjoy!!  ~ MH

Hi Hime :) I was in no hurry to see you undergo this episode. Because seeing Gon in this state and what he says to Killua, it hurts... But despite everything, it also shows how exellent this anime and this series is, to be able to make us suffer and feel this tension, with very little dynamism in the animation. Just by the expressions, the artistic choices and the acting of the actors. Shoot and Knuckles, if there's one thing Togashi knows how to do, it's manly and sensitive friendships, but at the same time, he has a furyo culture (Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho, his previous manga and Knuckles are furyo) . For the definition, the furyo is a genre of manga with high school students, who hang out in gangs, ride scooters without a license, smoke and drink alcohol, have their territory and fight between rival groups (in addition to generally trying to have a girlfriend). The best known in the world of "classic" animation are Yusuke of whom I spoke above, Jotaro and later Josuke and Okuyasu from Jojo's bizarre adventure or even Onizuka from GTO. But if you have already seen the movie Crow Zero for example, it is a good demonstration of what the Furyo is, Tokyo Revenger is also an example of it lately. In short, all that to say, that Knuckles is part of this list of furyo characters, a thug with a big heart, whose manly friendship and fight are the key words. Another interesting thing is to see your judgment on certain characters, like the king and Pitou, you absolutely didn't want them at the beginning, but now you see them as more complex characters, more interesting and I can tell you that in the end, you could even appreciate them for some. Ah and just to reassure you, in the next episode, you will see that Killua will find a way to express his frustration.

2023-01-15 20:30:54 Aw I totally understand where Knuckle and Shoot are coming from. It's weird I feel like I'm so familiar with feelings like theirs at moments like this but can never remember when I've felt that in my life, I just know that it doesn't feel good. We've known them for some time now and they were the ones who gave Gon and Killua a run for their money. And that's when they also had their own struggles as well, like "being too nice" & Shoots overcoming his shyness. And they were the dudes that got Kite "back" to Gon. They're strong disciples of Morel and all that work put in with a broken leg just to be looked down on was a spit to the face. I just couldn't take it either. I want them to survive 😔 but like Palms objective I think putting their lives on the line was also something they had to consider. Even with being time, I think it's drawing as much as you can out. Survive hopefully but for mission sake maybe something is to happen; AT LEAST TO THEM and I can't stress that enough. Literally just survive and get out is the objective but to them I think as hunters who feel they aren't adding as much damage as they thought they would feel like they can't just stop at good enough. It's just a pride of a good true hunter. And as much as I selfishly want to tell them to get out of there I can't fault them for that. :,(

Yeah I see what you mean! I'm being selfish just wanting them to get out too lol, but they'd never be able to live with themselves. They've both had such journeys, like you said, and played lots of pivotal roles, like out-powering (or at least out-fighting) Gon and Killua, bringing Kite back, etc. It really does come down to their pride as hunters. Well said!

kamenriderhime

Hi Spadeas! :) Oof, it was a rough one right lol. SO true that they convey so much emotion here with as little variation as possible - just the acting, etc. Oh thanks for all the info on furyo culture! I was aware of it, but didn't know the name and details. So true that I had absolutely no use for Pitou and the king at first, but now, I know there's a lot more to it than I originally thought! Yes!!! I'm glad my Killua will find a way to channel all this soon!!!!!

Fun fact: in the manga, Cheetu mentions that his new Nen ability he got with help from Pouf is called Fog of War. Although we never actually see what it does, that name sounds quite a lot like what someone would name an ability if they were inspired by Morel's Purple Haze. Right up until the end, he never really got over his impressionable nature. I also just want to say that I think the scene with Youpi near the end is really good. The music, first of all is killer. It's easy to see the ways the other two royal guards are developing, but Youpi is the slowest of the three. This is the first sense we've gotten that Youpi is not just a walking tank who doesn't think. And his slow realization of "ego" as the narrator puts it is really interesting.

kamenriderhime

Ohhh!!! Yeah, that does sound strangely similar haha. He was super impressionable :/ Yes, that scene is amazing! Youpi is def more than meets the eye. Yeah the use of the word ego is interesting!!!

Also whoops! I meant Deep Purple. "Purple Haze"? I'm mixing my Hunter x Hunter with my JoJo lol.

kamenriderhime

Oh!!! I honestly didn't even catch that since I knew it was named for the band, and Deep Purple had an album called Purple Haze. Lol!!
