Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 2 episode 11 of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime!  WOOOOW.....gotta say, this was fascinating and also a bit ominous to watch!!!  The whole Harvest Festival was really interesting, watching all the upgrades, but I definitely felt like there was a somber or maybe even sinister tone to it all.  And watching Rimuru in total god mode even at the beginning of the ep with the king was intense!!!!!!  Diablo is in the mix now too, which should be interesting.  It's a whole new world - but the most important thing is that SHION IS BACK IN IT!!!!!!!  As well as all the others, I'm presuming!!!!!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Hi, another fun episode. Probably my favorite. As you said, a lot to unpack here. The jury is still out on deciding the end point of the story, the author hasn't written it yet! Any hypothetical changes in Rimuru's personality could be argued to be caused directly by his becoming a True DL, or it could simply be because of the trauma from the experiences he's been through, or the fact that the environment has changed in response to his new status. Common sense alone would tell you he's going to attract even more attention than before.------- I want to talk about the spell Megiddo a bit. First Rimuru casts Anti-Magic Area. Armies usually have barriers to protect against magic attacks set up at all times, and preexisting magic is not affected by Anti-Magic Area. The spell Rimuru uses is cast outside this barrier, and the actual attacks are based on physical properties, not on magic. The blobs he conjures up are not slimes, they are water spirits. Essentially the spirits focus and direct sunlight to become something like a laser beam.

So, concerning Merciless. Remember when I was giggling about the concept of Rimuru's main quality being mercy? Any forgiveness he gives is now contingent on the circumstances. He gained that Skill because he was acting mercilessly. I'm sure his depth of determination here contributed to acquiring it. I don't know when Rimuru decided not to kill the king, when the last time I remember he was going to. But really it's better he didn't. Rimuru's tone of voice was the coldest we've heard him sound so far, and his choice of words is both impolite and disrespectful. Those guys' arrogance continues to amaze. The Harvest Festival is about harvesting souls, as well as the granting of gifts to those connected to the new demon lord, which mostly means those named by him. They use a peculiar meaning of the word "harvest" in this story sometimes. It refers to the idea that Rimuru and his subordinates are linked by loyalty, strength, and Skills, as in reaping a harvest or overflowing abundance. Rimuru had a form of this connection before with his friends, but it is now enhanced.

Summoning Diablo (or any demon) was not a necessity or a new power that came from Rimuru's evolution. If you think back to Season 1, Ep 23, Diablo is looking into a crystal ball and lamenting that he had finally been summoned by Rimuru, but his own family got ahead of him. That was when Rimuru was making the new golem for Ramiris to replace the one he had broken. (Rimuru learned that Skill on the way to Engrassia.) Here, Rimuru was just looking for someone to capture the escapee. This time, Diablo managed to get there first. Technically even Rimuru isn't strong enough to summon a demon of that level, but Diablo was waiting for his chance. I don't fully understand why Diablo originally latched onto Rimuru like that, something to do with the mask.

So, there's no difference between Wise One and Great Sage. They seemed to have varied the translation for some reason. Unique Skill Great Sage asks Words of the World to evolve her. It failed an overwhelming number of times. So finally it tried another tactic, by sacrificing Degenerate. This isn't as much of a loss as it seems since Degenerate's sub-skills are incorporated into Great Sage now. She evolves into Ultimate Skill Raphael, Lord of Wisdom. Raphael is more sophisticated in its abilities, with a much larger "computational space", so is much faster. Raphael now asks for the evolution of Gluttony, sacrificing Merciless (parts of the abilities are still retained, namely Soul Consume). Unique Skill Gluttony becomes Ultimate Skill Beelzebub, Lord of Gluttony. All of these Skill upgrades are simply unheard of. A Skill requesting that upgrade? Impossible. This requires, for one thing, a glimmer of self-awareness in the Skill. But this is Rimuru we're talking about here. Rimuru himself is unconscious. The whole procedure is conducted by Raphael alone. (Yeah, that was Raphael walking around there-- one clue is red eyes.) This emphasizes Great Sage's dedication to carrying out the will of her Master. There was only 3.14% chance of it succeeding. Great Sage knew the process would be far more likely to succeed if both computational ability and Gluttony's ability to collect all the souls in the area would be upgraded. This particular moment was the best time to try the Skill evolution. Notice the Skills went from Unique to Ultimate, too.

A few final thoughts. It's really hard to dig deep to remember how I felt when I saw the episode for the first time. I was probably too much in awe to see the episode as ominous. I worried what the repercussions of the presence of Diablo would be, that probably scared me a little. Also, I worried for the future, mostly how the humans would react.----- Lord's Ambition is his aura. Rimuru's evolution into demon slime is that he becomes closer to the kind of spiritual being demons are, not their personality.

While there’s definitely A LOT going on in this episode, it’s really just a couple of broad strokes plot wise to cover. First, it’s kind of ironic to see Edmaris and Reyheim go from these snooty, arrogant, “holier-than-thou (no pun intended)” characters, to sniveling little weasels begging for their lives. Also, they CLEARLY can’t read the room by the way they act towards Rimuru. The “Merciless” skill is pretty frightening, but as Rimuru commented, it’s useful in this case. It also appears that unique skills just pop up when the correct conditions are met, but nobody knows for sure what those skills are or what will unlock them. Rimuru went to negotiate, and ended up disarming the king. (Sorry not sorry). 😉 I do think his decision to spare those two stems from him playing the politics game. Also, he knows Reyheim is technically Hinata’s boss and I wonder if he intends to use that. The different monsters like Shion and Benimaru falling asleep during Rimuru’s Harvest Festival makes sense. You’ll notice the only two characters who weren’t affected in the immediate area were Mjurran and the individual from Eurazania (I’m blanking on his name at the moment). Keep in mind, Rimuru named every other monster so they’re ALL connected to him because of that, and it’s why they all passed out. So just so you know, Great Sage constantly trying and failing to upgrade is a video game trope. Usually it involves trying to improve something with a low percentage chance of success until it actually clicks. It seems like something had to be paid. So as I understand, from this sequence: Rimuru spent Degenerate, and Great Sage is now Raphael. Rimuru spent Merciless to evolve Gluttony into Beezelbub. Which makes sense, he said he didn’t expect to have many chances to use it. Remember Rimuru does fall asleep after expending magicules (think about all the times he’s named people). So it makes sense he’s he super tired after evolving. Razen mentions that the demon loyal to Rimuru isn’t an Archdemon, he’s a primordial… something. He got interrupted, but what does that mean? And is his monstrosity comment fear from himself or in general? Either way, it seems like we’d rather have him on our side than not… 🤔 Mjurran is stunned at the secret arts Rimuru is performing, apparently what he’s casting is super rare and no one’s probably ever seen it. But then again, there’s only one Rimuru… and he’s going to get his job done no matter what. Time to move on.

If you recall back to the fight between Rimuru and Hinata, she actually says that she serves the god Luminas directly. She's also the leader of the knights serving the church and of the knights serving the Holy Empire of Lubelius. She's not in the same chain of command as Reyheim, she is not part of the clergy. Reyheim is important, but his area of jurisdiction is just Falmuth. Yes that part about the last ones standing is true, those who were connected to his soul (those Rimuru named) got the gifts. Mjurran, whose passion is the study of magic, recognizes the magic used more than anyone, and also in that moment despairs of ever understanding magic to that depth.

I am so happy they are back!! 😭 👏

Nice!! Oh wow, I didn't realize the story was still in progress! Hmm, I can see how it would be hard to pinpoint the origin of the changes. Yeah I definitely think he'll get more attention! Thanks for clarifying Megiddo! That makes sense about the attacks. Oh good to know those aren't little slimes!

kamenriderhime

Hahahaha yes mercy was a bad choice of words, I see that now :P Yeah it might be for the best that he spared the king. Yeah we've never heard Rimuru this way. Ohhh that's what harvest refers to! Good to know. So that connection evolved too! Thanks for the info!

kamenriderhime

Oh okay! I see how it wasn't directly related. Yeah I remember Diablo was interested in the mask.

kamenriderhime

Oh okay, thanks for clarifying! Wow, the skill have sentience is kind of a big deal. Great Sage is dedicated for sure! Thanks for clarifying that was Raphael and also cool note that Unique is now Ultimate!

kamenriderhime

Yeah it's the kind of ep that leaves you in shock a bit for sure! Gotcha, glad to know the evolution is more physical than emotional/mental!

Oh yeah, Edmaris and Reyheim need to get a clue lol, also yes this situation truly showed their true colors. Merciless is useful here, yet scary! HAHAHAHA good Yang joke! Yeah Rimuru definitely did not do it out of mercy, more out of usefulness. And I sure hope Hinata doesn't come back into play! Then again, not sure if she'd have a good chance against Rimuru as he is now. Ohhh makes sense that anyone named by Rimuru fell asleep!! Ohhhh I didn't know the trying/failing was a trope lol. Oh yeah, good call that Rimuru does actually fall asleep after expending a lot of magicules. Ohhhh, primordial what then?? Glad he's on our side for sure haha. Yeah, it's saying something that Mjurran is surprised. Can't wait to see more!!

kamenriderhime

Ohhh right, good call! Thanks for clarifying. That makes sense about those who Rimuru named getting gifts! They're connected for sure. Mjurran would know what that sort of magic looks like, makes sense. Thanks for the info!

To define this episode with a Kamen Rider's quote: "REJOICE! The new demon king is born!"
