Hey everyone!  Here I am with Red vs. Blue, season 9, eps 9- 12!  WHOA!!!  We get some intense and amazing action in the Freelancer portion of this story, thanks to a certain someone who really knows how to kick butt.  It's cool to see how this all unfolded as the freelancers just thought they were involved in your typical special agent project...!!  Only to slowly learn that the director is somewhat unhinged!  And on the Blood Gulch side, Simmons is really starting to feel this hit to his confidence now that Lopez is around!!!  Not to mention the same certain someone finally shows up and we get the most amazing mourning scene EVER!!!  Great eps!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Such a good mix of comedy action and story in this batch. though coming up on the next set I worry the sequence Im thinking of wont all be in the same week. Coming up on what I consider to be the greatest sequence in RT animation. It just sucks you cant watch the version where its all one cut since were going by episode.

Way back in Out of Mind, when Tex tracks down York, they talk about how he's partially blind in his left eye. They then disagree over how much of that is Tex's fault. Here, the part of York's visor the blast penetrated was on the left side of his face, and Tex both knocked him out so he couldn't escape the grenade, and hit him with a bunch of training foam so he didn't die. Some of the prequel stuff turns out very different than in previous flashbacks or as described by Tex or Wash, but this is one of the times they really successfully flesh out a previously mentioned event.

Poor Andersmith, gone but not forgotten ;w;

I agree!! That's exciting about the animation, whoa!!! Let's see, my next batch is eps 13 - 17, hopefully that covers it, but if not I know it will be awesome whenever I get to see it!

Convo between Tex and York when she recruits him to go against Wyoming. Tex: "How's your eye?" York: "Blurry... hurts when I read..." Tex: "Well how do you feel about a little revenge?" York: "You know, last I checked you are the reason I have a bad eye..." Tex: "No, I'm the reason you still have a good eye."

I really like this batch of episodes, especially because of how well it connects to the Out of Mind mini series. It explains how York got his eye injury and it also makes sense that Tex would ask him for help in the mini series, considering he was the only one to help her, when Wyoming and Maine started shooting live rounds. I love how each Freelancer excels at different things during the fight. Maine has the most brutal punches, uses his strength to get his hand out of the lockdown paint and breaks through one of the pillars in the last round. Wyoming is terrible at hand to hand combat, but is the only one to shoot Tex when he is at long range. According to the list of the best freelancers we see briefly in episodes 2 and 3, York is the second best Freelancer in terms of skill and is the only one trying to strategise during their fight. He also manages to block some of Tex's attacks and even knocks the gun out of her hand once. And Tex... well, we know that Tex just absolutely destroys all of them xD The fight also works well with the theme of Tex always failing when she wants to accomplish something. She gets shot in the arm by Wyoming, which disables her hand. Then, when she tries to use the gun to cover York, she can't raise her second pistol, so there is not enough paint to prevent his eye injury. There is also a cool detail in episode 11 that is really easy to miss. When everyone looks at York lying on the ground and South starts talking, there is actually a medic that walks to Maine and tries to help him stand up. You can actually hear Maine yelling ,,Get off me!" in the background, as he tries to stand up on his own. This is the first time we hear him talk, excluding his usual growling. P.S. RIP Andersmith. We will always remember you!

Just let me know when you are ready for me to send you the Season 9 soundtrack.

Yes it was great! I love that they explain that, I had almost forgotten they mentioned it. Yes everyone brings something different to the table. But yeah, no one stands a chance against Tex!! Good point, it definitely goes with the failing theme, so heartbreaking. Oh wow!!!!!! I did miss Maine talking!!! Good call. You will never be forgotten Andersmith!!!!!!!!!!! :P

There’s a few things of interest to point out, as always. The earthquakes inside the memory unit are getting worse, and Lopez is the only one who seems to be noticing. Meanwhile, Simmons is definitely worried about being replaced. Which is probably his biggest fear, who else will suck up to Sarge? In the Freelancer side, it is actually mentioned that using equipment in the field is extremely dangerous without the correct protocol and what North did on their mission was extremely dangerous and reckless. Before they get interrupted, Wash is about to say something about unauthorized transmissions and/or intel coming out of the base. There doesn’t seem to be any teamwork among the Freelancers. Just ask York… also, Carolina is the first to make sure he gets aid after the incident. From the Out of Mind miniseries: York: “You’re the reason I’ve got a bad eye. Tex: “No, I’m the reason you have one GOOD eye.” A lot of the events in the flashbacks have already been discussed in previous seasons, this is just how they actually are playing out. RIP Andersmith. We barely knew you. Also Caboose thinks all girls are mean. Well, he only knows Tex and Sister, so his sample size isn’t great. The funny thing about Simmons’ crack about Mexican heaven is that his VA is actually Latino, so yes, it’s okay to laugh at the politically incorrect stuff. We’re all in on the joke, including Rooster Teeth. Lopez is a normal meat person? That feels like a reference I’ve heard somewhere… nope, I just can’t place it. Maybe I need a Penny for your thoughts… 😏

I’m super invested in the freelancer stuff. I never wanted such seriousness to interfere with the show but it’s done in such a cool way, and making for a good story.

kamenriderhime

I hear you!!! I wouldn't have guessed for such serious tones early on in the show but dang are they well done and fun to watch!

kamenriderhime

Yeah, not sure what's going on with the earthquakes! I did notice them talking about how dangerous that was. And yeah, Wash got cut off - what was that all about! Yeah teamwork isn't a big value for the Freelancers I guess. Poor Andersmith! Yeah, poor Caboose, he doesn't know a lot of ladies in order to make a better choice about that haha. Yes I remember hearing that Simmons' VA was Latino!!! That does add a bit more layers to the jokes haha. Penny!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't get me started!!!!!!!!

2022-10-16 21:05:22 I love the set of episodes in this reaction. Not much to say about episode 9 except that there are some great jokes. Also even in memories Lopez can’t escape the suffering of dealing with idiots who can’t understand him. I love that the show brings up IRL computer stuff up with recursion and iterations it’s pretty interesting. It’s amazing how much hype they are able to get us to feel with the last scene bringing Tex into the mix especially with the awesome music. And then they just end it LOL. I love the entire fight in episode 10 not only because it’s awesome to see Tex’s skills again seeing her decimate these 3 but also because we get to learn/see more of the freelancer’s personalities. It’s nice to see York again and it’s hilarious/frustrating that he is trying to form a plan while the other 2 don’t listen to their own detriment. While it was all great the best parts/my favorite parts were Tex using her hand-to-hand combat skills especially when she embeds Wyoming into one of the stone pillars. The commentary from the other freelancers was interesting especially from Carolina and Connecticut with Carolina being interested in her skills and CT making a disparaging remark about the Director. Also it’s cute to see Wash being awkward. You can tell York is a good guy since he immediately drops the training mission when it gets out of hand. The sort of paintball scenario is fun even if it’s harsher than that. I like that we understand Tex better through this with her comment about not abandoning your team. Makes you wonder if that’s a remnant from the original Allison or not since we don’t know much about her. I agree that this is clearly something the Director would do but considering what Wyoming was like in other seasons and the Meta having the same anger issues as Maine it makes sense that the Director would pick them for a messed up test like this. And it only makes sense that something this dangerous would end with a major injury. Thankfully Tex was there to save him even if her curse to always fail got in the way. Also I can’t wait to talk about the song when you get to the soundtrack reaction. It’s crazy how scared the freelancers are when the Director starts yelling at them shows how intense the guy is. And we see more of Washington’s former innocence/naïveté with his reactions. The imagery of York with his broken helmet with the gunshot is chilling while the Director is talking about how this was admirable it’s brilliant. And yes the absolute ridiculousness in the memory unit is much needed lightness. You just feel bad for Simmons with how terrible his acting is LOL. And of course the banter with Tex immediately resumes its great. The bit with Andersmith is a big meme it’s hilarious and I love it :-). And now we have to deal with the consequences of Tex’s help LOL it will be entertaining at least. In regards to the whole Tex/Church thing being creepy or romantic I think it can be both depending on the circumstances considering how different the Director and Church are Awesome reaction, I can’t wait for more and keep up the great work. :-) <3

Yes some great jokes for sure! And cool that there was some actual computer lingo in there. The fight was absolutely epic!!! Haha Wash being awkward was super cute! And yes, it's interesting to see how folks are reacting to Tex. I agree that the comment makes us understand her more! Maybe it is from the original Allison! Oof, that does make sense about Wyoming and Maine doesn't it. Yeah the curse strikes again! Yes the Director is no joke. Past Wash was so innocent in a way! Oh yes the imagery was really disturbing. LOL gotta feel bad for Simmons and also I couldn't agree more about the much needed levity of the Blood Gulch stuff! Andersmith!!!! May he RIP hahah. I agree, it's kinda creepy and romantic at the same time, as much as that doesn't make sense lol. But Church and the Director are very different in a lot of ways for sure. I'm so happy you enjoyed my reaction!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!! ^_^
