Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 3, episode 7 of REBELS!!!! We came back around to the Fenn Rau story in this one, sweet!  Always nice to have another ep that's loosely centered around Sabine too.  It's cool that Sabine upholds the Mandalorian ideals no matter where she is or who she's fighting with.  And apparently that was enough to motivate Fenn Rau to join the rebels!!!  Also, it's freaky to see Imperial Mandalorians...!!!  We got a few breadcrumbs about Sabine's backstory again too.  Great ep!  Enjoy!!!  ~ MH

The design of the imperial Mandalorians here, is a direct hark back to Boba Fett's original armour design for Empire Strikes Back, before they changed it to what we know his armour looks like now. Indeed the title of this episode, Imperial Supercommando's, is what Boba Fett was supposed to be originally, a type of super stormtrooper who would hunt down Han Solo in Empire, before Fett and the Mandalorians got a story of their own, in of all things, the ludicrous Star Wars Holiday Special! If you have never seen that, its quite something! After the Siege Of Mandalore, Bo-Katan refuses the Empire taking over, leading to her group fighting them and the clones/stormtroopers there, and Gar Saxon is made Viceroy of Mandalore.

Melissa: you’ve seen Gar Saxon before in season 7 of Clone Wars - he was fighting for Maul on Mandalore when Ahsoka was attempting to capture Maul. Same voice actor for both, I think, so maybe that’s where you recognised the voice? There is another even cooler connection between Rebels and that Clone Wars arc but that will have to wait a bit before it can be pointed out :-)

Nick

And those connections were very cool at the time these season 7 Clone Wars episodes came out, as Rebels fans already knew the characters from Rebels. You are now seeing this in reverse time and series order, so to speak.

“Do not land. Do not engage.” Me: Well, you know you’ve just sealed their fate for this episode. I admit I’m not as up to date on the Mandalorian code, as some other people, but they’re definitely… eccentric. You kind of understand what they’re all about, but at the same time they can be very… confusing? “Pawns are meant to be sacrificed.” Sabine: “He’s not a pawn!” Me: “And you’re not a tsundere, right?” 😏 I think Rau is probably looking for someone to vent his anger at when the episode starts and obviously losing his crew didn’t help. But like Sabine said, if he hadn’t been captured, Saxon would’ve got him too. During the jet pack scene, I kept thinking, why is this reminding me of Ren getting fly dragged through the canyon chase style? Also, Chopper, stop stealing the show! I guess the real question is who will Ezra claim to be next? Also, he’s not wrong - the Mandalorians ARE crazy. I don’t trust anything an Impetial loyalist says to goad anyone - the only thing I buy is that Saxon knows Sabine’s mother. What’s the story there? Oh, and you know this story between him and Rau isn’t finished. We’re definitely revisiting this later.

An Imperial mandalorian? New one

kamenriderhime

Yeah I realized that after, sorry! Ohhhh that probably is where I recognized the voice!!! Whoa, can't wait for that connection! Yeah I'm kinda doing it in reverse of what real-time viewers did huh!!!!

kamenriderhime

Nice!!! No kidding, that's interesting about Boba Fett. OMG I have seen the holiday special and isn't that hilarious?!!? I try to watch it each year hahaha, it's a classic in all the wrong ways. Gotcha, I knew I must know Gar Saxon, I was just blanking on it. Sorry and thanks for the info!

kamenriderhime

Hahaha yup! Yeah Mandalorians are...unique in their ideals and code of conduct :P Hahahahha Sabine is totally a tsundere with Ezra sometimes! That's the thing, he wasn't in a great place. But he'd be gone too if they hadn't captured him. Hahaha yes I could see the similarities! Also Chopper can't help being Chopper and stealing the show!! LOL Ezra had a fair point and the pseudonyms are always so much fun to witness. Yeah, there's for sure a story there and no one in that position could be trusted to tell the truth. I can't wait to see more!!!

Saltire

You watch it every year? Haha you must be a glutton for punishment Melissa! Mind you having a few egg nogs while watching that insanity might be fun in its own way! :P The cartoon in which Boba Fett appears in it, he don's the large gun that Din Djarin had in season 1 of Mando and rides the Mythosaur, which is referenced several times throughout Mando. He himself says he has rode bigger when given the rancor in the Book Of Boba Fett, as a nod to that scene too. Yeah I had a paragraph on Gar Saxon written for you, but you looked him up during the episodes, so you'll see he was in the Siege Of Mandalore as Maul's right hand man. He was first scheduled to appear in a huge arc in Clone Wars called the Son Of Dathomir, which along with Dark Disciple (which would have been Ventresses finale) would have been a huge eight-part arc dealing with Palpatine using Maul to attack Mother Talzin on Dathomir. I think Dooku, Sidious, Grevious, Maul and Saxon were all to be there, and Maul manages to free himself from Sidious's grip, and hence the next time we saw him after that was the Siege itself. Alas it never got filmed due to Clone Wars cancellation, but it was turned into a comic which Gar Saxon appears in his gorgeous armour he wore in that arc, the best Mandalorian armour set I've seen imo. He downgraded in his armour when he became an imperial here, thats for sure!

Nick

I’m surprised/ impressed you recognised the voice/ remembered at all: I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have in your position :-)

kamenriderhime

LOL!!!!! It's pretty fun in a so-bad-it's-good kind of way! LOL egg nog would help for sure! That is amazing, so I guess the holiday special is sort of canon now?!?! Yeah I totally blanked but was able to Google what I couldn't remember! I'm pretty sure I read that comic, so I definitely should have remembered him!! Oops. Too bad he couldn't keep the spiffy armor!

Saltire

Well in the opening episode of Mando when he hunts the blue guy at the start, the latter references Life Day which canonizes that anyway, and John Favreau, one of the creators of Mandalorian, loves the Holiday Special like you! So perhaps all that stuff with Lumpy etc, is now indeed canon in the Star Wars galaxy, haha! :)

kamenriderhime

Ohhhh yeah good point, so it was already canon haha. A fellow fan!!! OMG, can I just say I will die on the spot if Lumpy ever shows up in the canon Star Wars universe!!!!!!!!!!! XD
