My Hero Academia 6x05 "The Thrill of Destruction" reaction & review (Patreon)

Hey everyone!  Here's my next reaction to MHA!  WOW!!!  Guys, are we just utterly fudged here???  Shigaraki's display at the end was horrifying!  I was super proud of Tokoyami in this one too, and while this has given him a lot to think about, I'm just relieved that he got Hawks to safety!  Shoot guys, Shigaraki is destruction walking...AND he's got Gigantomachia....!!!!!!!!  How on earth do we even fight this?
Or get safe from it???  I guess we'll find out....!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

I dont feel like its spoilery to say there is not a single hero in Japan capable of fighting alone against Shigaraki now. It is sad who we ended up losing this episode but You should really ready yourself cause its nothing compared to who we've yet to lose

Hi Hime :) I said this episode would make you scream, let's say I was right lol. Shigaraki, just with his decay is almost a threat equal to AfO just in potential damage power. So imagine when he will have the ability to use AfO's powers at will... Small precision, the machine that X-Less destroyed is the one that contained the anti quirk bullets. Even though he hadn't destroyed it, the cables had been severed by Mirko and the fluid was spreading, so Shigaraki would be revived anyway. X-Less casually does a good thing by destroying the machine. Izuku tried to use air force to slow down the wave of Decay, but it didn't work... Same for Todoroki and Pixie-Bob. The wave of destruction was unstoppable. With a threat like this, you easily understand why manga readers were in a hurry to see this arc adapted, and we're only at episode 5... All that's left is to fasten your belt, because the trip is not over yet.

I’m scared to learn who did and didn’t escape Shigaraki’s Quirk. At the very least we lost Crust, the Shield hero, who freed Aizawa’s leg. I’m also wondering if anything in the manga was skipped over to get this arc. Cause last we heard about Deku’s limit it was 20%, now he’s using Full Cowling at 45%! I’m so scared for this Saturday!

Hi Spadeas! :) You called it! Oof, that's the thing, even just decay is devastating, and he hasn't even pulled out AFO yet. Ohhhh good call about the machine, it was a good thing then! Didn't realize that's what had destroyed the bullets. That's just it, it's unstoppable! Oh wow, I can see why this was long awaited for sure. I'm scared!!!!!!!

2022-12-31 00:41:13 I can’t say this was an enjoyable episode but it was certainly an incredibly great episode from a presentation & a character moment standpoint. Great reaction and you have such a great way of describing what's going on as living in these dark and tense places. MHA is so good at going from dark/depression stuff to happy or hype openings LOL. The logistic/strategic stuff with the police is interesting and cool. Crust’s shields have such great utility being offensive and defensive. It’s great to see Endeavor defending Mirko & show such concern for her. I love that Mirko is still ready to fight and help even when she’s basically falling over which is somewhat darkly funny. Now that I’m thinking about it that can be compared to a Rocky moment. I love how the heroes take down the female high end with some of them distracting it/locking it in place to give Endeavor a chance to deliver the final blow. I love the small moment/look between Eraser & Present Mic it’s sweet. The tenseness begins and is really well done once Shigaraki starts acting. X Less did hesitate for too long but he basically saw a guy come back from the dead so it’s not surprising. A comment I saw described it perfectly “Shiglaraki killed a pro hero without a second thought, stole his drip, made it look better on himself and then decimated everything.” We already saw him with a red cape in the opening so taking X Less’s cape makes too much sense. It’s darkly humorous that he only wanted the cape because he was cold. I love seeing how strong Tokoyami is that flying kick was so cool. Hawks back being so badly burned is so painful. At this point I am unsure if his wings can heal since his feathers can recover but can his wings if they are gone and because of that I am worried for him. And then we get Dabi pointing out Twice being killed bringing up the complicated stuff of heroes and villains as well as society in this show although of course he twists it in his favor. Also the characters being in shadow as Mt. Lady breaks into the building in the background is an amazing use of perspective. It is amazing how they play with superhero tropes having Dabi monologues to give himself time to recharge his flames. Also I’m sorry but the barbecued birds line is brilliant. When he tries to surprise attack them he’s actually propelling himself with flames from his feet very similarly to Endeavor which is interesting and the sparks look cool. In trying to help the villains regroup Geten inadvertently saved Tokoyami. Knowing that things are not so black and white has given Tokoyami a lot to think about but I love how much he believes in Hawks still. When talking about killing Twice being the right choice I think it’s about being the best choice not Tokoyami necessarily thinking it’s the morally right choice because of him crying. The evacuation efforts are impressive especially also saving all the animals. The moment with the old lady and Bakugo was hilarious & sweet and I love that he still took the chocolate LOL. As soon as the first user started warning him the tenseness increased exponentially and there was a feeling of dread. My reaction to the first user interfering here was oh so we are fucked. Also I know it’s meant to say how dangerous he is but did the first user have to talk Shigaraki up so much LOL. It was terrifying to see all the still shots of the heroes at the hospital as the show took its sweet time kicking everything off. The traffic signal very slowly turning red was nerve-racking. I love how we as the audience can feel the desperation and fear of everyone running from the destruction. Also in contrast of course the doctor was happy LOL. Crust dying is sad but saving Aizawa is incredibly important I think his quirk is going to be one of the reasons we get through this that thumbs was wholesome. Ryukyu saved so many people. The sheer amount of destruction & death caused by Shigaraki is horrifying but the animation is great. I realized while watching reactions that the music for Shigaraki’s display of power has been the music playing over the previews the entire time which is crazy. Also the music is basically his version of all for one’s theme music with dark choir vocals and all. The scale is insane especially the fact that he destroyed a mountain even if it was small. There are some things that will hopefully make you feel better since I know it seems like we have lost. Too many heroes died but I think a lot of the heroes we know as well as all the civilians are okay, we have a lot of heroes who can float or fly as well as Eraser and hopefully there is a limit to how much he can decay especially if people are fighting against him. Although on the other hand this is without Shigaraki using the all for one quirk. Also I don’t want to scare you more but from what we see this episode it looks like he has more precise control of decay being able to decide what does and doesn’t get destroyed which comes with a small new animation of black and purple lines originating from where Shigaraki is this is extremely dangerous. Things could be so much worse because they stopped him at 75% and X Less luckily destroyed the quirk erasing bullets. Gigantomachia’s roar really felt like the true start of a revolution. Finally MH I think we are all going to need to help each other going forward. At this point all we can do is commiserate & comfort each other with what’s going to happen. I'm so happy you enjoy my discussions!!! And I couldn't agree more about how they cut to the cheery theme haha. I can totally see it being a Rocky moment, that's a great way to describe it!!! OOF, that comment sums up Shigaraki so well, dang! Tokoyami was awesome, they really did a great job giving a good spotlight to lots of the different heroes here actually. Haha I mean the bbq birds line wasn't NOT clever :P That's a good point about the "best" choice vs. the morally good choice. Bakugo and the older woman was amazing haha! And yeah, as soon as the first user speaks up, you just know it's about to get crazy. The traffic light was such a tense scene!! Lol I know, way to brag about Shiggy!! Oh I know, at least someone was happy about this situation haha. Oh I know, it was sad to lose Crust but Aizawa is so pivotal here. The amount of destruction was overwhelming!! The music was so haunting as well. Yeah now I know we hadn't really lost yet at this point but still - to think of how much was destroyed in so little time is mind blowing! So many people have died already at this point. Yeah the control over decay is really scary. I know, to think this is the better scenario is crazy but it could have been worse!!
