Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 3, episode 16 of REBELS!!!!  WHOA.....this ep really hit me out of nowhere!!!  What a great look at Sabine's family life, what her family has been going through, and what it's all put Sabine through.  Being shunned by your family is a horrible experience, yet it sounds like the mom has been backed into a corner by the Empire and Gar Saxon too - what a mess!!!  In the end though, family is everything and we all look out for each other!
I am so, SO sad to see Sabine go....but this was a tremendous arc for her character growth, and I totally get why she needs to take care of her people first.  I truly hope we cross paths again before the series is over!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!!!  ~ MH

You have seen Sabine's mother, Ursa Wren before. She was with Bo-Katan when they recruited Ahsoka in season 7 of TCW, and was her right-hand at the Siege Of Mandalore, taking on Maul's forces, under the command ironically of Gar Saxon. https://i.redd.it/3ph29v127lv41.jpg You can see slightly in that image, as you can here in the episode, Ursa's helmet markings of Clan Wren, match Sabine's. I don't know if this is a theme we are seeing here, but its interesting to note that a lot of the female Rebels we see, are fairly well-to-do. Mon Mothma and Vel are rich cousins to each other; Leia would have inherited the Kingdom of Alderaan and all the riches that world had, had your old mate Tarkin not blown it up Melissa!! Hera came from a very influential family too with the Syndulla's; and we see with Sabine here, that she is aristocracy as her mother is a Countess and that mansion, though run down, is not to be sniffed at, though I bet the heating bills in that place cost a fortune! :D Ursa telling Sabine if she didn't win the Darksabre in combat against Maul she isn't the wielder of it. That's true, but Maul has not bothered with that blade for years now as he prefers his two-handed red sabres, and it will give him bad memories of the last time he duelled with it, against Sidious. However, as Sabine later defeats the Viceroy of Mandalore in Gar Saxon, she can then claim it, since he was the de facto 'leader' of Mandalore. This is what Fenn Rau I think refers to at the end when he tells Sabine that she could unite the Houses under her if she so wants; but she doesn't want to, so will find the leader her people need. Ezra just throwing his precious lightsabre - that he was reluctant to let go of earlier in the episode - to Sabine, shows how much he'd do for one of his family. Chopper's timing when he lowers his arms as he realises Sabine isn't coming back, is both hilarious and saddening. One of the family is leaving, and its a blow to our crew, but they understand why. Finally I hope Buffy gets better soon!!

The end of a fabulous (in so many ways) two part arc. It’s again a moving episode, especially at the surprising ending when Sabine chooses to stay with her mum and brother. There is a slightly worrying point in the episode after Sabine has defeated Gar Saxon and is walking away: you hear the gunshot and it looks like it could have been her that had been shot: a frightening moment until we realise what has really happened. Again, it’s a real joy, Mel, to watch reactions to this show from someone who truly appreciates the show. The only problem now is having to wait another week for the next two!! Still, on the bright side, there are 3 sets of two episodes left to go in this season, and all of them have a lot to offer - there is not a hint of a weak episode left for this season (imo). Finally, just a quick shout out for the winter scenery and the family home in this episode: it’s always stood out to me as a stunning landscape and great artwork in the show. Sorry your dog has been Ill, poor little thing: I hope things improve for him/ her.

Ooh, I hope your doggo is feeling better by now! There’s one unanswered question that rotates through this entire situation and keeps getting poked at: Sabine says she built a weapon that was used on her people. But what EXACTLY did she build? Mandalorians are a stubborn bunch, they’re very rigid. Sabine happens to be one of the more “warmer” ones and even so, she’s still capable of being pretty icy, so it’s not a surprise that something as simple sounding as dropping by home for a visit is complicated, which is a polite way of putting it. Even if the Mandalorians are stubborn, however, Saxon was rather stupid when he tried to bend the rules to suit the Empire. Imperials are excellent at that, of course, but they have a tendency to take it too far. Are we losing her, you ask? Mmm, no - this feels more like a “Volume 4 situation” - we have characters splitting off from the main group because of circumstances. We might even follow up on the plot thread with her father, or who she is looking for to lead Mandalorians. But it just requires her to be in a different place right now, while the rest of the crew takes a different path. Until they connect again, which I’m sure is around the corner. “This is the way.”

Was not expecting a departure. I want to see Zeb and Hera’s reactions to Sabine leaving. :,( Also Buffy! :,)

kamenriderhime

I know!!!!!!! I was surprised too!!! Hahah yay Buffy!!! She was pacing around back there waiting for mom to wrap it up!!

kamenriderhime

Thanks!!! She had a stint in the hospital sadly, but she's home now, yay! Yeah I was curious about that too, what did she build? Yeah, Sabine is effusive for a Mandalorian, so you just know that going home will be an....interesting visit lol. Yup, in true Imperial fashion, it just went too far. Gar Saxon seems mad on power so I'm sure that had something to do with it. Yeah, I agree, I feel like we'll meet back up again in the not too distant future! THIS IS THE WAY!!!!

kamenriderhime

Yes!!! It was so well done!! And had a surprising ending! OMG, that brief few seconds were AGONIZING right??? Yay, I'm so happy you're enjoying my enjoyment of it lol! I'm so attached now! I know, sometimes I'm so tempted to just binge watch hahah. Wow, I can't wait for the next 3 two-parters!!! And good call on the scenery, the artwork is brilliant for sure! Aww thanks about my pupper!!! She had to go to the hospital this weekend but she's home now and doing better!!! I appreciate it!

kamenriderhime

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH no kidding, that was Sabine's mom?!?! Wow!! I would have never ever remembered that, thanks for the info! That's a good call actually about the well-off female rebels!!! Hmm!! OMG friggin' Tarkin!!!!!!!! Lol but yeah, that's quite a pattern actually. And I can't imagine the heating costs on that big old mansion in the middle of a frozen winter landscape, oof!!! I hope those windows are energy efficient! Yeah I agree, Maul wasn't really into it, but her defeating Saxon definitely gives her the right to claim it! So true about that moment where Ezra throws his lightsaber to Sabine, goes to show this crew would do anything for one another! Awwww I know, Chopper's sadness!!! Yet somehow it's also cute! I know it will be a big adjustment for our crew for sure. Thanks so much about Buffy!!! She had to go to the hospital sadly, but is home now and doing much better!!!! Really appreciate it!

Hi Mel, not sure if you have seen the titles or thumbnails on Disney + for the remaining episodes of season 3? But if you haven’t, and you can avoid it, then you might want to avoid seeing them if you can, as they involve spoilers/ strong hints about the content of two of the episodes. Also, to avoid any possible confusion I might have caused, the remaining six episodes are all separate episodes (not two part arcs) except the last two: the last two episodes constitute a two part season finale. I was just assuming you would watch them two at a time. Glad your big cute puppy is doing better :-)

Nick

Mama Wren is a great character: another really strong and admirable female portrayed in the Star Wars universe. It was very cool to see her in Clone Wars season 7!

kamenriderhime

No, I haven't fortunately, I'll try not to look at them when loading up the eps!! Oh wow!!! Sounds like some big stuff coming, I'll definitely be careful!!! I do usually do 2 at a time so that makes perfect sense! Also thank you so much about my pupper!!!!!!! ^_^ It's nice to see her more herself again!!!!
