Hey everyone!  Here's my next reaction to MHA!  Whoa, getting to see Hawks' past up close and personal was so sad!  Even sadder than I thought it would be!  But wow, talk about society just being a mess right now.  The distrust, everything that's been building for years, and the whole Endeavor thing being just the right tipping point.  I mean, civilians using support items!?  That's not safe at all!!  It sounds like the Todorokis are gonna take this family matter into their own hands, wow!!  Can't wait for what's next!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

The scene with Endeavor crying had me messed up. Having everything thrown in his face after he’s genuinely trying to be a better person hurt so much. And I definitely didn’t expect to get Hawks’ backstory here, the part where it seems his mom spilled the beans hurt too. How did the Liberation even find her?

Spadeas

Hi Hime :) To start, I wish you a good recovery and take care of yourself. You talk about the theme and analyze it, but I just noticed that when baby shigaraki escapes from his current envelope at the end, you can see that it's AfO's shadow escaping from him. A nice metaphor I think. What's ironic about uncovering Hawks' past is that we saw his father was abusive and his mother broken, which is exactly the case with Endeavor and Rei. Yet Endeavor remains the model for Hawks, which shows both the evolution of the latter, but also that there is a separation between private life and work. Endeavor may have been an ahole in private, but remained a competent hero. Speaking of him, he had already started his path to redemption, with Toya coming back and Endeavor showing off all the evil Endeavor has done on TV, as well as Rei and their kids arriving, he has no choice but to face the consequences of his actions. But we can see that he is deeply sorry and it is already a good step. For the civilians using support items, if I remember correctly it's from the Re-Destro company, they sold some of them on the black market and that's how the civilians got their hands on them. But yes, between the villains who escaped from prison, those who decided to become villains and the civilians with the support items, the damage will not go away...

"Not the picture of health and beauty today." Well, maybe not health. ;) Anyway, as sad as this episode was, I have a lot of hope for Mrs. Todoroki. That she's approaching Enji to talk about Toya says a lot for how much she's grown. And I'm hoping she has some wisdom and understanding to impart to Shoto.

Man seeing this in animation after so long was sad. MHA really had me emotional on all fronts this week cause for the first time in a while in the manga i felt like there was hope in the most unexpected ways and i was tearing up so much.

Heya Hime! Sucks to be sick, hope you'll recover soon! Really proud of our Todoroki family this episode, just sit and sort your feelings together :) A bit sad that we got no new info on Deku though :/ And I wonder what will Hawks do now? Loved your reaction and gonna wait for the next one, see you soon ;)

kamenriderhime

I hear you, same!! He truly is trying but Dabi's attempt to break him seems to be working, at least for now. Oh I know, the Hawks stuff was tragic!! I don't even know how they found her! I'd say through a quirk but I'm not sure!

kamenriderhime

Hi Spadeas! :) Awww thank you, I appreciate that! Oh yes, someone pointed that out about the AFO sighting with little Shigaraki, it's very telling! That's so true, Hawks' life paralleled the Todoroki kids in that way. True that Endeavor kept it together at work at least. I think you're right that Endeavor's repentance is a great step, but yeah, he really has to face the music on this one. Ohhhhh it's from Re-Destro?! Ok, that makes sense! Yeah that's gonna have some long lasting damage!

kamenriderhime

You're too kind, thank you!!! XD I agree, I was surprised at how much Mama Todoroki seemed to have it together in that scene. I really hope they can work together too!

kamenriderhime

Hey! I haven't been doing a lot of movie reactions lately but I'd like to try and start again at some point, if my schedule will allow it :) So maybe!

kamenriderhime

Hey Nathan, thanks so much for the get well wishes!!!! I know, I'm sad for what they're going through but happy to see how much they're growing and maybe even healing! I know, it was low to keep us in the dark about Izuku though lol. I'm not sure about Hawks, he sounded pretty determined though! Thank you so much!!! Hope you love my next reaction too!!! ^_^

2023-02-22 08:34:46 This is an incredible episode even if I think the title should have been different. I already loved Hawks but his back story made me love him even more. It’s such a sad and tragic childhood he had that was really well written/depicted. It sucks that broken people like his parents exist in reality. It is sad to see the wonder in child Hawks eyes while watching the news about heroes since at that point he didn’t really believe a hero would ever come to help him. I think this episode once again shows how interesting quirks and how they can combine in children with his father having the feathers on his arms and the mother having controllable extra senses with the eyes which combined into Hawks extremely powerful quirk. It’s a dark twist that Hawks became inspired and was saved from his abusive life by Endeavor who himself was an abuser but it does show that there always the possibility that there is a dark side of things which fits well with the story that is being told. It’s depressing that he was always hoping/praying to be different from his parents even if he couldn’t see how it could happen. The imagery of the Endeavor plushy starting to glow when heroes became real to him is beautiful. It’s hard to watch his mother in such anxiety, anger & hopelessness. Hawks doing his best to do what’s right in the face of this homeless situation and his mother’s anger shows the strength of his character even as a kid. The safety commission taking a kid to turn into a black ops hero is so damn shady especially the payoff of all the monetary support she could need. It really shows the bad state Hawks was in that Best J thought he might be dead as well as the fact that he needs to talk through a machine. The incredible technology central hospital has is crazy to see especially what they did to Best J to trick Dabi. It’s crazy that the villains ended up helping the heroes by preserving Best J’s body. I like that the scenes were shown in the car windows. The Jeanistmobile is so cool but ridiculous in the way only superhero stuff can be. The way he takes down the villains is awesome. Hearing about how Hawks feels about his mom through the letter was very sad especially feeling like he should have helped her. At least she seems much better in the present. You can’t blame him for not doing more since he was a kid but it’s very understandable why he feels that way especially with how it connects to his desire to be a hero. I agree that it’s scary when he starts talking about nothing tying him down and I think that’s because of his messed up voice as well as the unsettling & dissonant music. It’s so dark and twisted that he talks about Twice being a good person and wanting to be like him since Hawks was the one who killed him. Obviously that situation is weighing heavily on him but it seemed like it will help him positively because it will help him see a clear path to focus on. I love the idea of a person’s true colors coming out when they are cornered and I feel like the music is meant to represent Hawks thinking about this and wondering if he will continue to be a good person. I love that he believes so much in Endeavor still & wants to help him. After seeing everything Endeavor has been doing I think Hawks is thinking there must have been major changes even with the truth coming out. I love the imagery of all the flames and feathers as we see the accident where child Hawks saved everyone that got the attention of the safety commission. It’s understandable to me when it comes to most of the heroes resigning but the number 9 hero doing it is messed up because it’s worse and makes people lose more trust in the heroes and more scared. A hero in his position should have at least tried to do something to help in this terrible situation. And when it comes to saying he is too old I will just point to Gran Torino. This was exactly what Stain was talking about heroes who only care about fame or money. It’s crazy to think things have gotten so bad in this society in just 2 days. I’m so excited that Stain was shown here and will most likely be coming back into the story because he is such a great antagonist not villain. Also he must be so happy right now because all those fake heroes are leaving and is probably more likely to go after villains instead of heroes at this point. The support item situation is bad but I love how it shows the heroes who haven’t given up and are still just as determined as ever especially Mirko still raring to go. I’m glad there are still people like this mushroom Dr. Wanting to support Endeavor. Endeavor having to see all this hate while trying to process everything that just went down with his son is upsetting especially because at this point he almost certainly wanted to be dead. But of course Dabi wants him to suffer as much as possible it’s so messed up. I love that the song playing here is a version of you say run that is much more dire it works so well. When thinking about the truth he is probably focusing on people knowing the real him. It’s painful to see Endeavor so close to giving up and being a crying mess. He has done so much to change and try to atone but this is his emotions and the true gravity of everything he did fully catching up with him. It’s good that there was some levity here with Shoto showing up. I love that his sister is holding him so he won’t run away LOL. The reaction to their father crying like this makes sense since he has never shown any vulnerability or openness before. And the mom is right that they have been going through this regret and guilt longer than he has. It feels like she was here to snap him out of this and help him deal with this grief. It was such a relief that the mom was standing strong in spite of everything and wanting to settle things. Great discussion about hero society and its problems as well as heroes being human & what they can represent. I have to say you are a very empathetic person. As soon as you said I hope this isn’t a tearjerking episode I was like oh boy LOL. Awesome reaction. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

Hey, I am so sorry for taking so long to get back to you! I agree about Hawks, it's sad that he went through that and even more sad that it's a problem that's very real in our society. It's terribly sad to watch the way his parents are, which makes his reverence of heroes, and that moment where he recognizes real heroes, even more meaningful. It is rather ironic that Endeavor would be his role model considering what was really going on with Endeavor in his personal life. As we're now seeing, the safety commission is super shady for sure! And the hospital tech is crazy, at least something has advanced in this age far in the future, even if sadly a lot of common human negativities are still the same! His mom does seem to be slightly better off at the moment, but the part with the letter was sad. The Jeanistmobile!!! That moment is so creepy and I agree that it's weird to hear him talk about Twice that way when he had to kill him. That's a good point about trying to do something no matter what when you're a hero. Ugh, such a good point that with lots of the "fake" heroes leaving, the ones who really have good intentions are left to take the brunt of the crap! The song is a great touch too! The moment with Endeavor really is touching. LOL the sister making sure he doesn't run away was great too! They've never seen him like this before for sure. Mom was a great one to help him snap out of it for sure. I'm glad you enjoyed my discussion and thank you so much for saying that!!! You're very kind! LOL every ep has been a tearjerker this season, wow! Thank you again and sorry for the huge delay!!! I truly appreciate all your feedback!!! ^_^
