Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 1 episode 4 of The Bad Batch!!!  WHOA, who knew we were gonna get this kind of cameo up in here!!!!  Apparently, this did come out after Mandalorian, so disregard everything I was saying in the ep lol.  Yikes, I take it this has to do with the Kaminoan plan to get a hold of Omega again for their experiment.  I love Fennec and I think they did a great job of making her our opponent yet not "bad".  And poor Omega learns a harsh lesson about the outside world!  Can't wait to see what's next!  Great ep!!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Love Fennec Shand's leitmotif from the composer. He does one with Crosshair too, to show how he's become twisted by the intensity of his inhibitor chip. Poor Echo, now being recognised more as a droid than a person! He's still strong in spirit though, they didn't take that away from him when he was modified by the Separatists. If you want more of those space dogs that Omega follows, watch Star Wars Resistance, as they were first shown in that. (I wouldn't recommend it though!!) Ah Omega, she has much to learn running off like that still and trusting strangers. Its here Shand's first scene chronologically as Mandalorian is set 28 years from this time! The Batchers get taught a bit of a lesson from Fennec here; we have to remember, they are trained to deal with droids, so dealing with bounty hunters as well as adapting to this new life for them, is something new for them. The little droid with the funny little legs and arms, is I think taken from Robby The Robot from a lot of old sci-fi series and films from the 50's and 60's, and a similar droid (B-9) from Lost In Space. I dunno about Shand not being 'bad' here, she does kill a civilian and two policemen after all in her search for Omega!

Honestly, I didn’t have any context for Fennec for the first time I started going through this, and now I’m like - hang on, that’s not the person I think it is, is it? You shouldn’t be too shocked that people will betray others for their own self-gain. Heck, even our crew is a little shady in this episode when the salesperson thinks Echo is a droid. As I said earlier, people are doing what they need to survive at this point. This episode is just kind of pure chaos… and at this rate, Hunter’s going to need to put a leash on Omega because every time he turns around she’s got herself into another predicament. Suu was right. Obviously with the Empire in its infancy, everyone’s cheering because they don’t have all the facts. The clones have seen some stuff. By the way remember, Omega isn’t just a child. She acts like one, but clearly there’s something very important or Fennec would be targeting her. Also regarding the timeline, the two seasons of Mandalorian had already been released when this started, but the Book of Boba Fett wouldn’t be released for about another year, where she becomes more of a prominent figure. Hope that clears up any questions. Obviously this episode is way before that in the canon.

So Fennec Shand first appeared in The Mandalorian Season 1 in December of 2019. The Bad Batch Season 1 premiered in May of 2021, which was in between Mandalorian Season 2 (Late 2020) and Book of Boba Fett (Late 2021). So yeah there's that. Fun fact, the concepts for Pantora that we saw in this episode were originally from the Unfinished Dark Deciple Arcs from Star Wars The Clone Wars that got turned into the Novel, Dark Deciple, in which we saw a car chase all throughout the city lol That Arc would have been the first time we saw Pantora. It's nice that we got to see it here though.

Ah yeah I looked it up after, I was way off :P No kidding, that's awesome! I'm glad they used it here!

kamenriderhime

Lol right?! Something's familiar here....!!! I know, even our own crew had to be a bit shady, I guess it's the way of the world at this point! Hahaha yeah she always finds a way to get in trouble like Suu said! That's the thing, no one knows what the Empire is really about now. There's for sure something about Omega. I know, I looked up the timeline after, d'oh!!! I was way off haha, thanks!

It's a great score for sure! Lol poor Echo! I know, I'm so glad his heart/mind were intact! Awwww space dogs!!! Uh oh, maybe I shouldn't watch it! I know, poor Omega is learning a tough lesson! Oh ok, chronologically makes sense, for some reason I was thinking this came out before Mandalorian, but I was wrong! That's so true, bounty hunters are not something we often deal with as Clones right. Oh no kidding about the droid, I love the nod! Oh she killed them?! Oof, yeah, guess "not bad" might not be the best way to describe then lol.

We have seen Pantoran's in the films though, and famously one of them was played by George Lucas himself. Here he is dressed as one with his daughter, Katie Lucas - who wrote several big well-regarded arcs in Clone Wars. https://4.bp.blogspot.com/_vKkO-Vg3VbQ/THfngtoE-SI/AAAAAAAAAmY/OQsTthcwGQU/s1600/LUCAS+FAMILY+EP+3.bmp

Just watched your reaction to episode 4, Mel. Fun as ever - thanks :-) Not too much to say about this one, other than it’s great to see Pantora, and of course interesting to see more of the beginnings of the Empire, with it currently being welcomed by Pandora’s citizens. Also, love seeing Fennec Shand - and I see the animated character is voiced by the actress playing this character in the other live action show you mentioned: Ming-Na Wen (of ER fame for me - one of my favourite TV shows). She is certainly not all bad but still pretty ruthless in pursuit of the job she had to kidnap a child ;-). And in the process she killed two police officers and the poor civilian who she knocked unconscious and threw out of the car from a great height! Overall a great episode. It’s interesting at the moment with season 2 of Bad Batch running on Disney+ at the same time you are reacting to the first season. I watched the latest 2 episodes of season 2 yesterday and these two episodes were positively brilliant - pretty sure you will love these two when you get to see them, Mel.

kamenriderhime

Yay!!! Thanks Nick, glad you enjoyed it! Definitely nice to see Pantora and also Fennec Shand! I didn't realize she was in ER too! Yeah, I mean, she's still pretty bad :P Wow!!! I can't wait to get caught up and see season 2!!!!

Cool to see Fennec show up, especially cause she’d be pretty young here like 16-20 maybe. Echo and the droid’s were great, especially Clink, the one with the vacuum hose arms & legs. He is adorable and I need more of his design NOW!
